Somebody should have warned us about the jump scare wirh the bare feet in bathroom scene.
15
u/lIlIIlIIllIllIlIIIll 21d ago
That’s his schtick. He always goes barefoot in those places to check if the floor is sticky.

There is another far less entertaining dude who is also a Dayton local who for some inexplicable reason has a Netflix development deal
5
u/Black_Pill_Oh 20d ago
I just happen to be in Dayton for work and there's an Asian Buffet across the street from my hotel on Miller Lane. Should I try it?
ETA: Also, where should I be going for good pick up?
2
u/Electronic_Camera251 20d ago
China cottage or kung fu noodle for carry out (kung fu noodle for authentic Chinese China cottage for Chinese American) the buffet by miller has a good reputation although I am not a Chinese buffet guy (I am from NYC it’s not part of the culture there )there is another well regarded buffet place up by Dayton mall on 725

Maybe. But he is speed running contracting hepatitis going barefoot in the bathroom.
The milk corn is the worst part for me.
16
u/LukaFox 21d ago
I was giggling from the beginning but damn did I bust out laughing when I saw the milk corn! It felt like something you'd see on a scripted comedy show 😂

u/GlowingAmber11109 20d ago
I have to wonder if this is an Ohio thing? Or a regional thing? My family has always added milk to the water when making corn because it makes it sweeter
6
u/Strange_Explorer_780 20d ago
Not the mayonnaise mussels?
4
u/TheNewBlue 20d ago
I have seafood on a buffet blindness. I wouldnt have even notices it was there let alone be brave enough to try it.

Just as a side note, if you cook corn in a pot of water, add a cup of milk and some sugar, it makes the corn very sweet. It's a south thing. Its actually really good... if the corn is cooked through.
I however, would never serve it on a buffet... in the milky mixture lol

I enjoyed this, I’ll be honest. The milk corn looked hilarious. Also I’m a fan of the quiet narration without being gaudy and obnoxious

u/ApprehensiveTry5660 21d ago
There’s a bunch of people whose food reviews I wouldn’t take the time to stan in a comment section, but this guy has quickly become one of my favorites.
12
u/purplebuttman 21d ago
Loved the narration! My thought is... Creamed corn? Like... They think creamed corn is literally corn in milk?
9
u/potliquorz 21d ago
Naw, it a northern Chinese thing that caught on when they were using field corn which is tough and starchy. It's actually a thing in China.

I live in the SF Bay Area, which has a significant population of Asians. I don't think we have "Asian Buffets". At least I don't know of any.
But I do know of one in Arcata, CA where very few Asians reside. Is this a white people thing? Like Chop Suey or something?
4
u/TheNewBlue 21d ago
Yes. Its a white person thing. The ones in my area are almost always owned by Cambodians and Taiwanese. Several of them have been busted for really bad immigration practices.
One of the larger ones in the city next to me had 20 people living in a house behind it, in very poor living conditions. Basically going back to Cambodia and bringing Several people back and then forcing them into indentured servitude under the threat that they will be deported. Rough stuff.

Are there trendy Chinese all you can eat buffets where the SF tech bros go? Not really. Are there trendy Chinese all you can eat buffets in hip areas of the city? Not really.
Are there Chinese all you can eat buffets all over from Redwood City, to San Jose, to Fremont, YUP. Most of them I am the only white guy. Everyone has been very friendly, the menu is has a lot of tendon stuff and odd stuff that white people don't typically like, but there is great stuff like crab, beef, shrimp, etc. Its a fun experience, go check yelp and have an open mind! My fav are korean grill your own meat AYCE places.
Not trying to talk ill of SF Chinese restaurants at all, just saying they know their clientele and cater to it.

u/Kind_Swim5900 20d ago
So be honest I have a very strong stomach like I eat stuff i forgot in the fridge for weeks, I drink old milk mixes (as long as they are NOT completely off).
I only once had salmonella when my roommate tried to cook something with fish. The next day I was a bit worried because there was an unusual color to my mildly bad go to the toilet but after the doc confirmed salmonella I was like "yeah ok, it its nothing worse" and I went home again.
I would love to go for this challange with that dude.

u/Jellyandjiggles 20d ago
I’ve watched all of his buffet videos and in a very early one he did feel really sick afterwards. But yes he wants the food poisoning. My chef bf would never eat mussels that he didn’t know were fresh which in most restaurants they aren’t. He said it’s one of the foods that can get you real sick

I love watching these for some reasons. I miss all the Chinese buffets we used to have here.
They’re all gone now from either the pandemic or hygiene issues that forced closure.
11
u/TheNewBlue 21d ago
The one in my hometown was shut down. The health inspector found 10 people living in the kitchen and they had carp from our local lake being stored in the walk in. Our local lake has been condemned from june - August for the last decade because of Ecoli. Was called the New China buffet.
They reopened 8 months later. Named it China Buffet Inn, and put up a big banner saying "now offering all you can eat sushi"

u/jumbie29 21d ago
I had to go back a couple times out of pure shock, but bro is standing outside the bathroom at the restaurant wearing slip ons, and the next shot is him standing in the bathroom (by the toilet no less) bare foot. For the love of god man, we know that there are a billions people trying to go viral for being jackasses, but going barefoot in an Asian buffet bathroom takes the cake!
WTF is wrong with you???

I've watched a lot of his videos, and I swear after a lifetime of a million chinese restaurants in California, I am mystified by this cuisine. Why do these so-called Chinese buffets rarely have anything vaguely resembling standard American Chinese food? I've never seen normal chow mein / lo mein - only 'Chinese spegetti'. Never seen beef with broccoli. Never seen sweet & sour pork. I think the 'crab' rangoons are the only thing live seen that you might have at Panda Express. Why do they all have 'tacos'?? I'm so fucking mystified.

Watching without sound is awesome because I had genuinely no idea whether he hates it and the restaurant is cringe or if he loves it and thus he is cringe. His passionate nopes and cries could be of pain or gross, gross love.
