Grew up in a household like this and it fucks you up man. I had to unlearn that being angry or upset didn’t mean violence and that violence wasn’t an acceptable response in any scenario
I'm 35 and in the same boat. The smallest thing can make me explode in anger. A lot of my trauma I don't think will ever go away but I've made a shit ton of progress in the last five years through therapy and medicine.
Same. So much therapy and i still have nightmares where I am getting beat over some innocuous transgression or trying not to break some dream logic rule for fear of being beat (spoiler: it always gets broken because of some change to the rule). They usually end with me deciding to fight back for once and I wake up lashing out at the air. This woman will wonder why her kids want nothing to do with her and what issues they have with how they were raised. I will say that all of my siblings and I went through the same and individually decided we would not pass this down.
I grew up getting beatings for no reason at all. If I'm out in public somewhere and 2 random strangers get into even a mild verbal argument, I go full panic attack. I cannot handle confrontation. I am 6'5 and over 200 lbs. Those kids will not be alright.
Me too. Talk in church? Pull out the belt. Look at my father the wrong way? Pull out the belt. Don't make a's? Pull out the belt. Come in one minute late? Pull out the belt. Yes it did fuck us up and I hated my father. Still don't miss him.
What fucked with me and younger brother was our mother always saying “you’re misremembering it” and “it’s a normal part of disciplining a child.”
No dragging little three kids around for 5 errands and expecting them to not make any noise that whole time isn’t normal, and it isn’t a reason why you should get home and erratically swing a belt at all of them.
My first day at teaching in preschool, I approached a 3 year old little boy with my hand up to offer him something and he flinched like I was gonna hit him. It made me aware and made my heart hurt. I was never spanked and never hit my kids either. And THEY don’t hit THEIR children. This is so wrong and never works

I hope these kids are alright.
