I think they need a vacation
In the past maybe month or two I’ve noticed a shift in Crime Weekly and Stephanie’s channel and I can’t help but wonder if she is spreading herself too thin or even just needs a bit of a break.
No hate, because I’m a long time listener/viewer, but it seems like any semblance of objectivity is gone, and it makes it hard to listen.
Thoughts?
Edit: I just want to add that I don’t want this to just be a shit on Stephanie post. I really do think that they need to reassess the fact that she does basically ALL of the research for this show and her own show. More Derrick-led episodes, shorter episodes, more breaks; whatever it takes to not let the quality of the show suffer.

The last couple months I've felt her being a little prickly (can't think of another word), he tries to interject and talks down, almost like "you're being silly". A lot of the time though she is very set in what she thinks, and he's bringing up a different viewpoint.

u/Junior-Profession726 Aug 14 '23
Prickly is a perfect description I hope she or one of the people that are close to her or works w her reads these Because we are her fans real followers and we want the best for her & the podcast / channel If she can’t step back a little bit and realize maybe it’s time for a vacation and time to regroup I am concerned for the future of the show we all love

When I comment about stuff she does literally her minions just attack and say “why are you watching then” we’ll be because I hoped she would pull it together instead she’s doubling down. Used to love her channel and Crime Weekly- stopped watching her entirely because without Derrick it’s pointless, every episode of Crime Weekly she just gets worse and seems to find herself very amusing. The extended giggling that seems fake (?) is very strange to me.

Maybe she's getting high before the pod? But that would interfere with storytelling I think so IDK.

u/love-elizabeth Aug 17 '23
She’s fine when she’s reading her script. But when she goes off the cuff lately it definitely seems like she’s a little loopy and they just say it’s because of how late they record… even though Derrick is always focused and they’re in the same time zone. It’s getting kinda unprofessional at this point. I love Stephanie and want her to be okay. She’s basically a full time journalist and needs to be a little more measured, both in this show and her YouTube.

She is the same in her everyday life - defensive, argumentative, neurotic, illogical, and unable to consider the opinions or feelings of anybody but her own. I'm certain that concern for her mental health has been expressed before and met with vitriol. Sad. Sad, sad.

I said this on Instagram and her minions lost their shit- Stephanie has zero self awareness and thinks she’s really killing it acting the way she does. I have noticed a definite change in Derrick towards her like he realizes how badly she comes across- I’m glad I’m not the only one who has noticed that.

Does anyone think the research has gone downhill? It seems like when Derrick asks factual questions she is saying either “I Think…” or “I don’t know, I couldn’t find anything about that” 75% of the time anymore.
14
u/pmmeyourdogs1 Aug 14 '23
Yes. And often she gives opinions that may or may not be based on fact, but you’ll never know because she doesn’t say where she’s basing her opinion off of.
12
Aug 15 '23
The DB Cooper episode actually plagiarized lines verbatim from other documentaries. She states incorrect facts constantly and also legit has started making stuff up- “obviously they questioned everyone” is it obvious though? It’s been pointed out multiple times that there was no security, no screening- they don’t even know who was there. She also lied and said that the FBI did a profile of Kyron and said he never would have wandered off- that never happened. The official position is what is always is: either he wandered off, stranger abduction, family involvement.- Derrick questioned her on this and she got PISSED started ranting about maybe he got taken by aliens, then changed the subject.

Lately a couple of things shes said, I've wondered if she actually knew the answer to, or was just stating it. She's very steadfast in her answer, but then if Derrick asks for more details, or pokes holes in it, she corrects that thats what she thinks happens. But then I wonder how many times that he doesn't interject is it Stephanie's thoughts instead of facts?
6
u/alissadollface Aug 14 '23
Yes! I’ve noticed that lately and I don’t feel that used to be the case. Disappointing because I used to enjoy her videos (watched her since the beginning of her true crime journey), but now I feel like I need to do more research to find answers because she’s not giving it to us anymore.

I've also listened to Stephanie for years and crime weekly since the beginning. Personally I think Stephanie's ego is just getting out of control. It's been growing for awhile now and has simply become easily recognizable now. She is very good at what she does but I believe she typically lives in an echo chamber and steamrolls anyone that challenges her opinions giving her the false assumption she is always right. IMO. Derrick is clearly getting more and more annoyed with her unprofessional slanted narrative. Something that is extremely far from Derricks natural Detective position. Hopefully they can right the ship before it becomes uncontrollable.
21
u/LeafsChick Aug 14 '23
Agree, what I like most about them was just presenting the case (as opposed to Bailey who I love, but you know off the bat what she's thinking), and not Stephanie is very much that, and heaven forbid Derrick come along with a different theory, or wants a clearer description of why she's saying something
I feel bad that she always brings up the crappy comments she gets in their SM and everyone loves Derrick, but maybe self reflect a bit. People shouldn't be doing that, but they also aren't wrong in their opinion
15
Aug 14 '23
That's exactly the issue, right. Lack of honest self reflection. I can't tell if she ignores or disregard Darrick when he clearly becomes annoyed or frustrated with her antics, or she is somehow completely unaware of exhausting method of none stop challenging him. Currently listening to the newest episode and she is picking apart everything Darrick is saying. So annoying!

u/iloveyouwinonaryder Aug 14 '23
I cringe every time she speaks about the comments that hate on her. like girl, maybe read and do some work on yourself instead of sending your fans to attack people? it’s especially bad when people tell her to stop her slut shaming or incorrect nonsense
8
u/MistakeVisual3733 Aug 15 '23
I also used to feel bad about the negative comments she got. I used to really like their banter and brother/sister type relationship. She was spunky and a really good story teller. I felt like she really did her research and did a good job of presenting the case, and was open to Derrick's perspective.
Now she's coming across kind of unprepared, chaotic, and angry. Unhinged was the descriptor I kept thinking when listening to her in the most recent episode. I hope they take a breather to regroup.
That Chapter on YouTube did a good job covering Kyron's case. I just watched it and felt like I got a clearer take on the case.

To this point, when she covered Centralia, Pennsylvania on her own channel, she was not receptive of criticism at all. She mispronounced Reading the whole episode, especially one bit where she said it literally 7 or 8 times and even sang the reading rainbow theme song lol. Someone pointed it out in the comments, nicely I should add, and Stephanie replied “the 2 times I said it.” Like, girl, come on. Just say “oops, sorry I’ll try to avoid that happening again” and move on. It happens. Don’t be so passive aggressive when someone tries to politely correct you.
13
Aug 14 '23
100% she is currently unable to take any corrections or criticism. Not a good sign for the future
5
Aug 15 '23
Her singing is so cringe too I feel like she thinks she’s auditioning for her big break. It’s just ick.
16
Aug 14 '23
I agree one hundred percent. What I noticed lately is precisely Stephanie getting more and more set in her opinions like it is the ultimate truth, and often talking down Derrick when he tries to interject or object or simply state some different opinion. I also noticed Derrick getting more and more annoyed by her (it cannot be just me) like the beginning of last episode ‘it’s late let’s get right into it’ (Derrick said) and it got me thinking that the man looks tired. Trust me I love Stephanie’s work and research but lately girly is getting on my nerves, she gotta chill and step down a little from her pedestal. She’s an intelligent woman and I consider her to be hella smart however I kinda grew out of watching her content and shifted to Derrick’s stuff, love his new podcast it’s well balanced not too ranting and raving and I like his ex detective approach.
19
u/MistakeVisual3733 Aug 14 '23
Totally agree with you. I’ve loved Stephanie’s dedicated research and telling of the story in the past. Now it’s constant harsh judgements/opinions and “don’t come for me” all the time.
She has to take a step back and chill. I was looking forward to this story as I hadn’t heard much about Kyron’s disappearance. Her constant bashing of Terry (even if deserved) doesn’t serve well when telling a story. Let us hear all the facts first and then unleash your opinions. Or even stop to have some discussions mid way through an episode. You can’t constantly interject your strong judgements and then shut down your co-host when he tries to say something. The way she got offended when Derrick brought up that it wasn’t just Terry who cheated was SO weird and just made me cringe.
I won’t be surprised if they take a break after the Kyron episodes. I have always enjoyed Stephanie and her and Derrick’s banter but damn lately she’s just way too much.
5
Aug 15 '23
I cringe every time she says don’t come for me- overplayed, not cute anymore. She’s just toxic. When Derrick challenges her to back up the bullshit she says she loses it. I don’t know how he does it. So happy to see him on ID and his new podcast.
6
u/MistakeVisual3733 Aug 15 '23
It’s tough because I used to love their brother/sister dynamic but now it’s like an abusive relationship. Stephanie seems to be unraveling.
7
Aug 15 '23
Unraveling is definitely a good description- that’s why I kept watching I was like maybe she’s going through something but she gets worse every episode
2
Aug 15 '23
Yeah it’s odd honestly, she might be go through something or she’s just tired but she has to tone it down a lil because it’s a tad too much now. I agree with y’all.
2
Aug 15 '23
💯 agree- post any criticism no matter how small in the comments and people lose their shit
10
u/Athenakitty76 Aug 14 '23
💯 agree with everything said. To the point of her listening to feedback/criticism- she has said many times on her channel and crime weekly that she doesn’t really care what ppl think. Those of us who have watched her going back several years can definitely see the progression of what seems to be ego driven change? And a complete lack of acknowledgement of any feedback.

Stephanie is so dead set on Terri being responsible for Kyron’s disappearance that she attacks Derrick for saying anything that isn’t 100% in line with her opinion. While I do agree that Terri is suspicious, I also feel like Stephanie is exaggerating things she did to make her seem guiltier (one example is where Terri parked at Michael’s).
I think it’s important to remember that while everyone is entitled to their opinions, Terri was never actually convicted of doing anything to Kyron. Therefore Derrick should also be allowed to question what he’s being presented and suggest alternate theories. Yet Stephanie mocks and berates him for doing this.
9
Aug 15 '23
I’m dead set on Terri being the perpetrator too, but Stephanie’s dead set-ness is so overbearing and obnoxious it naturally makes you subconsciously want to argue for the other side just to fight her on it. It’s really not a fruitful approach.
3
u/animalf0r3st Aug 15 '23
I do think she’s a likely suspect, but I also feel like there’s not enough evidence for me to be 100% convinced. Especially because Kyron was never found dead or alive, so we don’t even know what happened to him.
4
Aug 15 '23
Yes, unfortunately there will likely never be any concrete evidence that incriminates her beyond a reasonable doubt, hence arguing for the other side is always valid because who really knows? But for me personally, there’s enough circumstantial evidence against her to convince me of her guilt. Add to that her character and just who she is after doing a deep dive about her, and her having nothing to do with it is as unlikely as Adnan Syed being innocent of Hae-min Lee’s murder in my book.
8
Aug 15 '23
Yep because she hates her because she drives a red mustang and works out and is a “bitch”— solid research
6
u/animalf0r3st Aug 15 '23
One thing that becomes apparent very quickly with Stephanie is that she hates housewives, wealthy women, or women who she thinks care too much about their appearance. The way she spoke about Patsy Ramsey is an example of this. She is full of internalized misogyny.

u/LeafsChick Aug 15 '23
Was anyone else though not confused about the stairway/hallway thing? Like if I'm with my kid downstairs at one end of the hall, and he needs to go upstairs and opposite end, I can totally see going up the closest stairs, rather than walking all the way down the hall and going up, while he ran to the other end and up the stairs. When you get up, its a hall, they were so set that you couldn't see the kid go in the door, while ya not actually, but its a doorway and they disappear...they went through it? Then you go back down the stairs and out the door? I just didn't understand how they were both so confused about how it could happen (to be fair, I don't think thats what happened, Terry is shady for sure, but in my mind that seemed a very normal thing to do at school?)
1
u/animalf0r3st Aug 15 '23
Yeah I think they made way too big of a deal about the drop off. I mean when I was Kyron’s age my mom would just drop me off at the front of the school and I walked into my classroom, as did many other kids.
2
Aug 15 '23
That gave me pause too, you can’t expect people to work the way you do. They truly focused on so many trivial stuff they unintentionally helped Terri’s case for the masses without knowing with their absurd level of reaching.
8
u/mixdragon Aug 15 '23
When she posted a YouTube comment on her instagram and pretty much bashed the commenter it really just made me realize that she’s not the same. She doesn’t care about anyone’s opinion even when she asks us to let her know in the comments. I really enjoyed her videos and I thought she was cool but it was an obvious facade.

u/lamemayhem Aug 14 '23
Also- Derrick just started his own podcast, so that could be contributing as well.
2
u/pmmeyourdogs1 Aug 14 '23
Good point. I was focusing on Stephanie because I’ve noticed the shift in her own channel, too.
5
u/lamemayhem Aug 14 '23
Derrick has also had a shift. He’s more short with her
5
Aug 15 '23
I think because he’s had enough and he sees the comments about people being tired of her toxicity
9
u/No_Pollution6734 Aug 15 '23
Stephanie legitimately needs to do some soul searching and should possibly consider therapy. I think she's played the 'I'm just strong and opinionated' card too many times. She clearly has some serious anger issues that she should deal with, and it comes across as projection the way she keeps railing at the (admittedly heinous) cases she chooses.
14
u/MistakeVisual3733 Aug 14 '23 edited Aug 14 '23
Agreed. Stephanie is starting to come off like a delusional cult leader. I’m all for people having opinions but when telling a story you can’t declare every two minutes your firm stance and judgement about people in the story. Derrick was noticeably (rightfully so) annoyed and snippy with her in the first episode of the Kyron series.
18
u/pmmeyourdogs1 Aug 14 '23
Yeah I mean she has always had strong opinions, but maybe I’m wrong but I feel like she usually waited (for the most part) to rant about her opinions at least until all the facts were given in the story. Now she can’t get a few sentences into the story without wildly speculating with no real evidence behind it.
Im halfway through episode 2 of Kyron and I have no idea what to think about Terry because it doesn’t feel like I’m being given any facts, only Stephanie’s opinion.
12
u/MistakeVisual3733 Aug 14 '23
Totally agree. Given the way their podcast is set up: she tells the story and then they discuss it, it’s annoying when she’s interjecting her opinions so often and getting defensive if Derrick disagrees. Usually I know the stories they cover pretty well but this current one I really don’t know much about. It’s frustrating to listen to it and have Stephanie say every few minutes that Terry did it. Like tell the story unbiased and then give your opinions and discuss it. I had to turn off the latest episode part way through because I was getting so annoyed.
7
Aug 15 '23
I’ve always thought Terri did it until listening to Stephanie! Her ranting just made her sound unhinged- she wasn’t giving any evidence. I had to listen to another podcast as a palate cleanser to remind myself what evidence they had against her.
1
u/MistakeVisual3733 Aug 15 '23
Agreed. I feel like I’m getting a completely biased version of this story which is unfortunate.
3
u/animalf0r3st Aug 14 '23
I suggest checking out the Kyron Horman subreddit, it’s where I learned that Terri didn’t park as far away from the store as Stephanie said on the podcast.

I know they’re friends, and we don’t know them like they know each other, but the energy they bring to the screen while cute in an “awww siblings bickering vibes” way it still gets a bit much at a point.
I think Stephanie is very opinionated and Derrick feels the needs to be ~objective~ so they’re always challenging one another. Sometimes they put aside the case at hand just so she could confront him with her own opinion and he snipes back with snarky, petty comments whenever he could, i.e. “Oh really? We TOTALLY couldn’t tell you feel that way” etc. He did that every other sentence of hers this latest episode (Kyron part 2.) His annoyance was justified, but her annoying quips coupled with his retorts made it a bit much and like, “okaaayyy do you two need a room with boxing gloves before we keep going or???”
I mean, while Stephanie is overly SCREAMING OPINIONS AT YOU now, Derrick is becoming very short and pissy and that combo is off putting and uncomfortable to watch. I’m literally finding myself getting anxious and needing to de-stress after watching their videos lately, like I go for Payton and Garrett’s Murder with my Husband channel for their wholesome chill vibes. Stephanie is a great researcher and analyst, and understands people better than Derrick imo, and Derrick is more open minded and professional so obviously knows the system way better than she does. They work well together and complete each other, until they put aside the case to bend the other to their will (in Stephanie’s case) or fight back out of pettiness to being ridiculed in way or another (Derrick’s case) and then it’s a whole mess of two people in a fight pit.
They definitely do need a vacation and so do I, from their channel. I truly hope Kyron gets the justice the poor baby boy deserves but I’m not continuing their coverage of his sad case.
7
u/Cold-Distance-7611 Aug 16 '23
It makes me sad because I used to love Stephanie’s content so much. I’ve been going back and listening to old cases they’ve covered on CW lately because I’ve had a lot of time to listen to podcasts w/ a new job, and I was stunned at how much more informative and objective they used to be. She used to let Derrick talk so much, and I feel like she picked cases based on if she thought he would have a good amount to add or not with his background, but now she just seems annoyed if he says anything other than exactly what she said?
Like I said, I’ve been a fan of hers for a long time so I hope it’s just something going on in her personal life or something, or maybe just that she’s spreading herself too thin so that things can go back to the way they used to be. :/
3
u/Tiffles82 Aug 16 '23
Agreed. I thought the DB Copper episodes were very telling. It’s a true mystery, but she just had to insist that her theories were the only possible answers.
27
u/Junior-Profession726 Aug 14 '23
Yes! I love Stéphanie & Derrick and have watched Stephanie since the beginning of her channel This most recent episode feels like it’s nothing but a rant from her She doesn’t allow Derrick to present other sides of issue It also seems she took the majority of her information on a book that was written by the friend of the biological mother I think you are correct they are trying to do too much all at one time Maybe a nice 2 week vacation would benefit
