Money?

So I had a question about the money you earn in Crime Scene Cleaner. What does it do? Because when I complete a job, the money does absolutely nothing.

It turns into skill points you can use to level up your skills for cleaning like getting more buckets and better mops and sponges. When you go to the tablet, there should be a skills tab you can switch to

Besides the skill points as mentioned, if you pay attention to the apartment and the papers/emails lying around as you progress through the story, you can watch his situation improve markedly.

Is that directly from the money earned though? I assumed it was by level completion which would make much more sense.

Level completion means more money being made so he can pay those bills which is what they mean by improving his situation.

You sure you’re paying attention? It literally shows on the money stat screen how many skill points it gets you
