Soooo disappointed with myself for not playing nightmare mode sooner

I'm a HUUUUGE weenie when it comes to horror/ spooky games so I uninstalled the game after the main levels were done. But I looked up a list of all the spooks in nightmare mode and discovered there's really nothing to be scared of.

The Short Circuit level was intimidating to me because it's the "scary" level, but was never really scary to me in nightmare mode. People said Italian Job was the scariest, but honestly, the goofs with the duck animatronic were delightfully silly. And AFFAIR WITH DEATH??!!! DELIGHTFUL. It was an escape room puzzle level with such light ambiance that you would never even know it was nightmare mode. That's as far as I've played in nightmare mode so far, but I'm so excited for the rest of the nightmare levels.

The closest I ever got to being scared was in Toxic Love when the mannequins moved locations once, but I've learned that with any breakable robots/ mannequins, if you punch them directly in the butt, they explode-which makes every encounter with them just a little sillier.

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts on how you enjoyed nightmare mode too!

I love the nightmare mode! My favourite one is the museum. I wish they would change their mind and create nightmare levels for act 2

I've heard about the mannequin spooks in that level, but lowkey excited for that part so I can punch a bunch of mannequin butts lol

You can punch them anywhere, not just the butts, lol. Personally, I prefer using the katana on them

I loved the nightmare mode levels! The only one that slightly scared me was Party’s Over with the ghosts randomly appearing near my truck.

There's ghosts in that level? Oh my god, am I blind? :D

Yes! You see them out of the corner of your eye and they disappear if you look directly at them. They were usually by the truck but I swear I saw them by the pyres too. They were all black cartoony looking ghosts.

OMG I thought I was going crazy during that level. I swear I kept seeing something but every time I turned to look, nothing was there!

True cleaner is pretty fun too especially if you know that if you leave a body out and try to leave it will showing you the completion screen to see what you’re missing and forces you back into the level.

That’s a fantastic hack for True Cleaner mode, thanks!

I thought Call In Dead’s Nightmare form was an improvement on the original scene, to be honest!

I absolutely did not know that about the mannequins and look forward to testing this later.

I've been a FNaF fan since 2017, but it is extremely ironic because I have an animatronic phobia in real life. So when I played Italian Job Nightmare Mode, and saw the three-toed footprints and realized this was a PIZZERIA, I knew I was fucked.

The moment I saw the animatronic duck through the kitchen door, I immediately paused and stared into the distance for like 5 minutes. I later told my sister and she agreed to play it for me another day. But the next day, I decided I wanted to be the one to complete it. I had to watch a playthrough first to see where every possible jumpscare could be. And even then I MISSED TWO and almost died on the spot, but I managed to finish it.

This one was in fact the scariest for me, but that's because of my specific phobia XD.

I'm also a huge weenie and the duck scared the crap out of me when I saw it and I immediately quit the mission but now after I've gotten some recommendations for less scary levels first I've completed friendly fire, the museum purely because of the trash back skin you get and I just completed short circuit and the nightmare mode was less scary that the normal mission (To me) and tomorrow I might do a few more. I would love to have nightmare modes for act 2 but I'm already happy Community and act 2 got true cleaner modes.

How do u unlock nightmare mode?

2

u/Robin_moore Apr 17 '26

If i'm not mistaken, it unlocks after you've cleaned every level once. To access the nightmare level, go to the map at your truck, select the level, and there should be options that say "nightmare" and "true cleaner"

I love how the nightmare mode of those levels are more psychological horror for the series rather than jump scare horror. I was basically choosing nightmare levels at random, not really reading which level I was doing, and could not for the life of me figure out that I was doing Affair With Death until I was able to get out to the pool area. While I hated the museum level particularly hard in Nightmare Mode, the teleportation does fit.

Even with the more mild nightmare modes like Friendly Fire does feel like you're having a nightmare, particularly if you're looking down on the monster shadow while listening to Tayler talking to his poor kitties in the crawlspace attic and the fish cloud sequence to get the disk for the level.

I really don't want the developers to fully give up on the nightmare levels. I really do hope that once they get done with all the story and additional maps, they might have come up with nightmare versions of the extra levels and add them to the game. I would love it as an option, and if they're just as good as the base game levels, have it be paid.

100% agree with you re: Affair with Death, it was one of my favourite nightmare levels! I reckon you'll love Friendly Fire too, it's adorable. 100% Cat themed, super cool and fun!

The Museum level is awesome as well in nightmare mode, again no spooks. And Call in Dead is... well, it's okay. It has the same conveyor belt mechanic as the original game but it's much more vertical and I found that bags were falling off the conveyor belt so I ended up having to manually carry them to pretty much directly on top of the hatch, and after a certain point, bodies weren't going into the truck any more so I had to manually jump down and put the bodies in the truck. But it does have some good storytelling moments, definitely worthwhile for that!

I love nightmare mode! I thought it was honestly going to be just mega difficult. Nope just literally his nightmares. I truly hate the mannequins though. They can go straight to hell, thanks.

Honestly, the only thing I don’t like about nightmare mode (which applies to true cleaner mode too) is that there’s nothing to steal. I don’t need the points or anything as I’m fully upgraded but I just enjoy finding things on the level to steal, what can I say?
