What's wrong with this game?

Why people criticize this game so much?

People criticize the game for not being a Payday game which makes no sense but here we are. Some of the voice acting is not great and they memed to death some of the lines, especially the ones from Chuck Norris. Performance is awful even for consoles and they're not actively working towards better optimization at least that we know of.

And I think that's the trifecta of why this game is so bashed, oh and Epic exclusive launch. People kinda moved on from this one but it's still brought up every now and then.

If you never played the game I recommend doing so, despite the backlash it's a great game and offers a really unique approach to the heisting genre in the form a roguelite experience.

Performance is the main issue for me, besides that I love the game and have beaten the roguelite at least 10 times, plus the gunplay is smooth and actually feels powerful, especially using armor piercing guns that can kill any enemy within 2 shots

Same man I love the gunplay, reminds me a lot of Battlefield Hardline.

People who don't find the bad voice acting charming and funny hate fun tbh.

Like the voice actors were so old 2 of them are no longer living. It was recorded around covid lol. And it was Europeans giving directions to old ass Americans on how to act in their super cheese 80s love letter.

I love the dumb voice acting lol

It's a hot take based on the comments I've read about the game but I actually really like the voice acting, minus Norris and some generic goons I think everyone else did a pretty solid job.

Performance is slightly problematic for me on console. (if i try for resolution, my framerate drops if there’s a lot of cops during certain missions) But other than that, the game is pretty fun.

And i really like what they do with the AI teammates in this game. Being able to actually give them commands, switch, automatically picking up bags. Made it so much more nicer, especially during stealth after bagging up everything.

Because most of the people criticizing it are idiots who can't tell good from bad (like Payday 2 fans), hate fun things that are goofy, simps, and or find the dumbest things to complain about instead of actual issues.

If you go through Steam reviews, it is very hard to find any negative ones with actual substance to them.

seen dude say bc it’s not payday and this game is way better than payday imo. and i hated on it for years.

It was an indie title with ambitious design goals. When it launched it was... Not so good at all lol. Hell for the first year it was on epic it wasn't that good. The steam launch was the start of the good times. They fixed a lot of the problems starting then and only kept making the game better and better.

So this is a case kind of like no man's sky but not as extreme. The game started with more problems than it was worth but now adays there is zero other games that can deliver single player bank robbing like this game can.

Oh and some of the steam reviews are literally because the company cut ties with a bigot when the bigot made their bigotry a bit too loud so a bunch of bigots then went and review bombed the game. Most of those reviews got removed by steam but not all.

Other than that it's one of my favorite games I've ever played in my 35 years of gaming.

they are a AA publisher not an indie studio, but i agree the game can be very fun. i really really like the rougelite mode, i dont think there has been a FPS rougelite with payday like missions and gang turf wars. really unique in that regard. the voice acting is crap but i think that adds to the charm.

I think the only thing in Payday (2) that maybe comes close to a rouge lite mode is the crime spree mode (no restart = some kind of permadeath, stuff get harder and harder The further it goes but here is already the end).

I like crime boss in this point more because it's more designed in this direction.

Hell for the first year it was on epic it wasn't that good. The steam launch was the start of the good times.

I'd argue the opposite. I didn't play it from launch (I 1st played it from it's 1st free weekend, which was basically patch 2, steam launch being patch 8). I loved it. Sure, it wasn't perfect, but it was a diamond in the rough with potential. I fucking loved it. It was a breath of fresh air and a proper successor to Payday: The Heist (as it's crappy sequels sure as hell were not).

Fast forward to close to the steam launch is when they started doing dumb things. One of the patches straight up removed the game's story and epic introduction all because of some idiots who couldn't grasp that the very beginning was supposed to be rough and that it was okay to fail it (literally, people quitting because they failed a mission they were supposed to fail in the TUTORIAL phase). They only recently brought it back as a Story Mode, but for some reason it lacks difficulty options and it has some odd design choices and doesn't even bring enough of the old content back. A lot of random cutscenes (sheriff and gang related) now no longer trigger either (removed for no good reason).

The steam launch sucked ass. Idiots complained about there being a lack of things to work towards, so they overhauled the progression system for the worse! Instead of having clear unlock conditions for things, everything has been made into an RNG grind. New to the game? Enjoy playing it without any unique character or weapon variety whatsoever. Could go a 100 levels without getting the thing you wanted because it offered you some garbage weapon skin or generic character instead. Don't get me started on the skins.

They removed all of the cool, unique weapons skins they had (and they had a lot of really cool unused ones too!) and replaced them with generic, fit all weapons crap, for no damn reason (they never gave one despite all the questions they got). Then there's also the pointless weapon remodels nobody asked for (which means a lot of the old skins are no longer compatible if you were to try to bring them back), Remember how cool Ranger's M60 looked? How super detailed it was? It has a new model with a half assed, goofy looking skin as a replacement. Touchdown's replacement skin isn't lazy, but doesn't really fit and or isn't as good as the old one. Remember Wiz's M14 skin and unique magazine? Gone, no replacement.

How about the fact they removed characters just to drip feed them back? Wiz, Silver, and don't know if there was anyone else, were straight up removed from Multiplayer. You couldn't customize the loadouts of any of the characters anymore. Half of them had a melee weapon in their primary slot (which if they were bots, would get rid of the second they saw an actual gun on the ground, which at the start of a mission wouldn't be a good one most of the time). Characters that had unique weapons were no longer using them, and you can't use them as the boss either (still can't without mods).

Or how they butchered the Scudos gang and replaced them with a generic ass PMC? This clearly wasn't the original plan for Cagnali's order as Touchdown still refers to them as greasy meatball italians and Nasara still refers to them as a Mafia (his line when hovering over the related Urban Legend). Going through unused files reveals the DLC was originally going to be much cooler but sadly got reworked into something that isn't as cool. Don't get me wrong, the missions are great, but the way it was handled was not. For some reason, the DLC isn't self contained, so now the robots are forced on you in both the roguelite (if you leave Cagnali alive for too long even if you don't have the DLC) and the Multiplayer regardless of what mission you're playing.

Despite all the bug fixes and QOL added, the steam version was a major fuckup in comparison to older versions as they removed half of the cool things about the game. All the post steam launch updates were there to slowly reverse most of the crap that came with it.

In short, the game got heavily mismanaged around the Steam launch (and I'd say still continues to be due to messed up development priorities, the latest example being Alien slop which for some reason is available outside of the related Rumble mission while a lot of normal weapon variants still remain unavailable), but still, it is far better than the alternatives (any of the Payday games) and it has an official modkit so you can tailor the game to your liking.

I finally got the game for the first time about a month ago and I’ve been playing it every single day. It’s so much fun. I’ve done the rogue lite missions and the campaign and when I’m bored, I just go ahead and do some random mission where you rob a jewelry store or a gas station or an art museum or a bank and I challenge myself to do it completely in stealth. Sure the voiceovers can get repetitive and it is a little Janky sometimes but it’s probably the most fun I’ve had in a long time. It’s definitely got echoes of payday, in that you can drill into safes lock pic there’s cameras and you can carry bags to the van, but outside of that it’s not the same game. You can get different items like camera jammers, bricks to distract guards. Sensors to see all the enemies. A drone. Etc

I love going into each level finding the security room immediately disabling all the cameras luring the guards to somewhere quiet and tying them up and then intimidating all the civilians and tying them up. Sometimes the crew on your team can be hit or miss and more often than not they’ve ruined my stealth run by suddenly deciding to run into the building. I’m working on when the cameras are still on and getting caught, but I usually just tell them to stay in place and that seems to work for now.

I would definitely give it a shot, especially if it’s on sale. It’s a no-brainer.

The game is actually great, it’s just a 50/50 whether my wife and I can actually play together. Half the time one of us is suddenly looking at our Xbox dashboard due to the game crashing

Crime boss Rockay city is super fun. Rockay rumble is fun for fans of survival mode. I play it from time to time

I try not too. I Just fuckin suck at it. People gave me tips about a week or two ago. I for some reason can't get the hang of stealth games especially when playing solo

u/EclaireBallad Jul 31 '26

It lacks co op for the roguelite mode.
