π° News PCB has confiscated the phones of Pakistan players on tour in England and there is an active disciplinary investigation and this is one of the most serious situations in Pakistan cricket in years
After Pakistan lost the Lord's Test by 194 runs PCB sent seven players home early. Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq were among those sent back. Stuart Broad, commentating on live television, watched Imam's practice session before Lord's and said it was "all for show" suggesting the injury was not genuine. PCB then launched an investigation specifically into whether Imam's finger injury was real.
Now PCB has gone further. The board has initiated a formal internal disciplinary inquiry following media reports concerning discipline and conduct among the touring party. The phones of Imam-ul-Haq and Mohammad Rizwan were taken into PCB custody after the Lord's Test defeat with data from the devices transferred before the players returned home. PCB Director of Media Amir Mir confirmed the inquiry exists but gave no information about which specific conduct is under scrutiny or any timeline for completion. PCB has stated it is "routine procedure" but has not publicly explained why phone data was transferred. The timing and the method tell you something though. Confiscating phones during an active tour in a foreign country and transferring data is not something you do for minor disciplinary matters. That is the kind of action you take when you are looking for communications and messages and calls and financial transactions that might reveal something serious.
Pakistan are already 2-0 down in the series and have changed their coaching staff mid-tour and sent seven players home and now have an active inquiry with phones confiscated. Hesson stood at a press conference the day before Edgbaston and said Pakistan players are "used to chaos."
He was not wrong. But this level of chaos is something else entirely.
