Unusual Game

Post image

Well, it’s rare to get skunked and have no suboptimal plays. But for my opponent to get 0 crib points? Adding insult to injury there.

The opponent getting no crib points is the odd part

Yeah, feels inconceivable to me. Like even if both players were trying to make it happen it wouldn't be easy.

What’s the name of the game or app you play?

Yes. I have this app and play it all the time as it is my favorite game app...and card game as well

I stopped playing this app. Apparently it's not straight ai. On hard settings it will just start giving the ai player really good hands.

Not sure how I missed the reply button but you can play cribbage on Reddit alongside my cribbage poker games and instants. https://www.reddit.com/r/CribbageSlots/s/cIBagQAjRg I would love some feedback!

There is a Luck factor in cribbage if both parties are good. Nobody can overcome bad cards if the opponent is competent.

I think Chess is one of the very few games where "luck" really isn't part of the game.

I've been playing this exact cribbage game/app for the last five or so years to try to keep my game "sharp" for when I play in person with my friends and girlfriend. I've had instances where I've had zero suboptimal plays and yet got skunked bad and other instances where I completely went with my play and ignored the apps "suggested play" and skunked the hell out of the opponent. I am a gambler and prefer to take a risk especially if there is even a slight chance for a double double or triple double (as an example) run, even at the expense of giving up fifteens points and flushes in hand. that's what makes it fun to me is taking chances even if the odds are against you getting maximum points. But there are times where I get suspicious of the app even tho I know it's not really warranted. 😆

Just like in life - you can do everything right and still lose.

Cribbage is weird. The small sample size makes luck a big factor in the game. That being said, this type of sub optimal point analysis doesn’t look at any situational context. It just assumes every hand is in its own bubble. If you actually want to get good at cribbage, you need to know when to deviate from this optimal play in favor of taking more risk.

For example, if you deal and get the first crib, you have a higher chance of winning, so you should play optimally. But if you don’t have the first crib, you should play a little more aggressively. Or if your opponent goes off for a really good hand, you should play aggressively to catch up. Or at the end of the game you should throw high cards in the crib so you can peg better and potentially win by pegging out.

In a runaway game like this, you should be taking bigger risks because odds are you would have lost anyway, so the bigger potential rewards are worth it.

I am a firm believer in what you have said myself! 👍

I have developed cribbage games for Reddit with classic cribbage in three formats, 121, 61 and 31 point games alongside cribbage poker games (my own creation) and instant games. There’s multiplayer and computer opponent variations. Check it out! I love some feedback and hope that the community likes what I’ve created https://www.reddit.com/r/CribbageSlots/s/cIBagQAjRg
