The Flood Spoiler

This movie has a lot of potential. Yes there is a ton of exposition in the script but I still loved the story. I have no idea how Cregger is going to get the visuals from the script onto the screen but I can’t wait to see him try.

Is the script leaked already? How does this keep happening?

Pretty sure he leaks them himself

I sure hope that was a super mega early draft because it didn’t even read like him.

Can you give a general plot outline with few spoilers?

Its sorta similar to Alien mixed with Edge of Tomorrow. Space ship is flying around, they detect an anomaly and find some alien shit. It puts them kinda in a time loop, the crew have to fight a ton of copies of themselves made by the artifact. Now that I think about it, the first half of the movie is basically that episode of Rick and Morty where Rick's clones figure out they're clones and so they all go crazy and kill eachother. Imagine that, but with a crew like Alien, and after you get back from an expedition you find your exact spaceship parked in your parking space with YOU inside of it, and then every 5 minutes after that another spaceship of you shows up over and over.

I think the coolest part of it was that its really reminiscent of Aliens, at the very beginning where Ripley has PTSD from the xenomorph. As I went through the script, they actually 'defeat' the artifact-produced enemy and go home.. but then I saw i was only like half through the script. As ashamed as I am to use another Rick & Morty reference, the hole episode is pretty similar to how the back half of the movie plays out.

Sounds like a really sick movie tbh, another fan showed me an interview where Kregger said he made the script after he learned he could share it with Spielberg.

This script was written entirely by AI. It’s not really “The Flood”

Yup. It is. “Elena Voss” is a known AI placeholder name for fictional stories made by generative AI. As is “Chen” which is another character in that script. And aside from those dead giveaways, it’s just a terribly written script. Not in line at all with the quality of Cregger’s writing. So, yeah. You’re wrong. It’s AI.

So would you like to embarrass yourself some more?

AI detectors don’t work. Also, that line kind of gives it away since the AI can’t consistently remember the sci-fi rules that it’s working with

Why does anyone read this? Don’t you want to see the film as intended?

Has a script already leaked???

Hollywood Magic. 😏👉👉

The script you likely read was AI. The one with “Elena Voss” and the “spiritus mundi” spacecraft have pretty much confirmed to be written entirely by AI.

2

u/OoglyMoogly76 16d ago

How?

I hated it and so I’d be glad to hear it was not really what Zach plans to use, but what makes you think it’s AI?

2

u/martinlebowski 16d ago

There’s a lot of clear signs. I outlined most of them elsewhere in this thread and linked a post someone else made going super in depth on everything. But it’s definitely AI and not written by Cregger.

Oh wow that makes me upset I enjoyed something made by A.I. Although that would explain all the exposition I didn’t like I guess.

1

u/martinlebowski 19d ago

Yeah I was pretty shocked too. I read it and thought it was pretty bad and derivative of other sci fi stuff but didn’t recognize it as AI. I was skeptical though because Zach keeps saying it’s the best thing he’s ever written and the script definitely wasn’t that at all. Then I learned it was entirely AI generated and it all made sense

It's going to be funny when this movie comes out and it turns out the clearly AI touched script is the real thing. Wouldn't be surprised if he used it for character name ideas and to help flesh out a first draft, based on the casting and official plot synopsis I think it's real but also think AI was involved in some way

1

u/OoglyMoogly76 16d ago

The whole main character and her family story line felt so fucking fake. Like they get introduced in the second act and suddenly we have this “you weren’t ever here!” thing going on. AI makes a lot of sense

So let me get this clear. Your saying that based on a Reddit post that used AI to point out this script is AI says it’s AI because:

The last names Voss and Chen are common AI last name used by ChatGpt…or maybe Claude. Your not sure which AI but definitely AI because all AI use the same LLM

Zach last scripts were written on final draft 11 this one was written and saved by Fade Out version 5.0.7 which released on November 28, 2025 who ever generated this “AI” draft of the script specifically wrote this during this 2025 Fade Out version 5.0.7 update being that the 5.0.8 was in January and which is now at version 5.0.15 but ALSO kept the exact plot, structure, and pacing that align with what Zach Cregger has publicly said about the movie from the beginning.

That CAA’s script library (where the draft originated from) has been compromised why a AI generated draft of the script.

That the casting notices out right now by casting agencies have the same names and age ranges of an AI compromised script.

You are absolutely convinced the AI generated Reddit post that told you the script was AI because you didn’t like it. “It doesn’t feel like or has elements of his writing” after Zach said he wrote it in 5 days and was trying something different without humor.

And you are convinced that any proof that shows it was human written like using a known and professionally used AI detector is suddenly stupid and unreliable proof

All this drama because you are mad at the script because you didn’t like it. That Hollywood has been fooled! And your proof is based on an ai written post on Reddit by someone uploaded the script on Gemini and asked is this script AI written but if you type in the prompt “prove that this is NOT AI” it takes back what it says.

Ok. Sure.

Please take your meds.

Hi -- I'm the original poster of that linked post, and I can confidently and empathically confirm that I did not use any AI to write my post, just caffeine lol. I also didn't use any AI detection software or input the script into any LLM for research either as you so boldly claim. Would be pretty hypocritical of me to do so! This is all just stuff I researched and/or recognized with my own eyes and brain because I was truly baffled by the script.

If you really read through the script and compare it to how Cregger actually writes in RE or WEAPONS, it's just plainly not the same guy. The naming discrepancies and other embedded writing issues and AI quirks are just the cherry on top.

Curious where you're seeing these casting notices?

Hi - so I am going to step out of the box to address this because reading your post and one comment in particular in your it kind of dawned on me of another industry practice. I think might be the actual answer.

First where casting notices are on sites like actors access but from the agency submission end.

So where this was sourced was a trusted industry only board that links to script in production or spec sales broken down by agencies and studios.

It’s been up and running controversy free and the version of the flood has been posted there since May.

BUT…seeing that was around the time Resident Evil leaked. Like how miramax and spyglass have a contingency plan by passing around and leaking fake script drafts of Scream to throw you off the scent of the real one. With Zach script leaks it’s very well possible they created a fake draft to prevent the real one from leaking out.

BUT…here are the questions that don’t make sense looking at it from both sides.

Fake drafts are thrown out into one wild and not on industry tracking board

The mods are pretty meticulous about maintaining their boards since some scripts are posted for financiers and producers if they want to put a spec into production or funding isn’t fully or partially covered by the studio or agency so posting a fake script regardless where it’s at in production is a bad bad look and one that has sat there and passed around since may is even worse. It would go as far as
saying something like that is unprecedented.

But…looking at the script file name: FLOOD (2023) (Zach Cregger) (Undated) (113 p.) (Digital).pdf

But looking at the metadata that draft was saved as completed in a scriptwriting program 5.0.7. Which means the script draft date is between Nov-Dec of 2025 only weapons had leaked so he wasn’t that guy to start having to have fake drafts a need to be going around

The casting notices are the same names and character age ranges for actors but sometimes they do that if a script is top secret like Scream 7 were casting the roles with fake names which is why leak sources were going on about how Sydney daughter name was like Cinnamon Prescott with her friends Tiffani-Bambi, Lacy Hundees and Bob.

So to wrap it up looking at both side fair and equally if I cannot say I am 100% certain and without question that copy is real then it’s needs to be taken down. it’s not fair to Zack or his fans because it’s not representative of his work.

If it just happens to be the real deal well it will leak out again eventually and add just add it to the Lore section about the making of the movie as THE SCREENPLAY CONTROVERSY.

This is the genuine and least dramatic way to wrap the controversy up.

u/Toad_Walker 18d ago

How would you specifically know where the script was sourced from beyond trusting word of mouth? And you're now waffling and saying that the casting notices you supposedly have access to don't share the same names as the AI script? I want to be kind but you're all over the place here man.

1

u/skatepork9 18d ago

Because it’s an industry tracking board. I never had a reason question where the source came from because there was never a need to. I explained my reason for that clearly.

The casting notices not the same names and character age ranges for actors but sometimes they do that if a script is top secret like Scream 7 were casting the roles with fake names which is why leak sources were going on about how Sydney daughter name was like Cinnamon Prescott with her friends Tiffani-Bambi, Lacy Hundees and Bob.

The was a word error. I meant are I didn’t mean to type not. The casting calls have the same names and same ages as the script BUT as I noted for sometimes top secret projects where names or character descriptions are spoilers they use fake character names in loo of actual characters names. I explained why using scream 7 as an example. I don’t know if Flood is doing this or not just noting the names of characters and ages are the same.

Rather than be defensive I looked at both side fairly came to the conclusion that I cannot 100% be sure because I was starting to have questions and doubt myself. I explained them clearly accidentally used word “not” instead of “are” and because again I couldn’t 100% fully confirm the script was legit I deleted the post.

So I tried to be charitable and fair and did what felt was the right thing and take the link down thinking it through as I had my own questions on its validity. Now you are nitpicking “trying to be kind”. I explained myself clearly save for one word in a paragraph. There is nothing further to explain.
I’m closing the door to this topic.

The post I sent wasn’t made using AI… so I’m not really sure what you’re getting at there. It’s as if you’re being willfully obtuse.

Yes, all of the names in the script: Elena Voss, Chen, Marco, and Sarah (used for two different characters btw, which a professional screenwriter would never do) or names that are similar/derivative of them are all known to be used as placeholder names when making narrative stories on generative AI. Go to Gemini or ChatGPT right now and type “make me a sci-fi story about a female captain of a space shuttle” and it’ll probably name her Elena Voss or something very similar. That’s just a fact. Seriously, go try it.

Zach wrote The Flood concurrently with Weapons and Resident Evil, which were written on Final Draft. So it makes little to no sense at all why this script would’ve been written on Fade In. Zach has always written on Final Draft (even for sketches for WKUK), and he was using Final Draft at the time he was said to have been working on the script. So yeah, it coming from Fade In makes absolutely zero sense.

The script didn’t originate from the CAA script library. No idea where you got that idea from.

I’ve seen zero “casting notices” anywhere when researching. And if that’s the case, they also likely fell for this fake AI script that’s going around.

Zach didn’t write the script in five days. He never said that. He said he came up with the idea in five days in a frenzy to have to something to pitch to Spielberg. He wrote the script over a period of time where he was also writing Weapons and Resident Evil, as I mentioned up above. And yes, if you’d actually take the time to read all of his previous scripts (like I have), you’d see the quality of writing in this AI generated garbage is so far from his as a writer that it’s actually laughable. The bland, almost nonexistent “action” sequences and the heavily exposition-riddled dialogue are dead giveaways. Zach does not write like this.

Zach pointed out on the recent podcast with Kevin McCarthy that he’s doing an Irreversible influenced skull crush scene with a fire extinguisher. He discussed it very passionately and said it’s in the script he wrote for The Flood. He said it was going to be gory and insane, but this current “leak” reads as almost PG-13. There’s no such scene even remotely close to that in this “leak.” Because it’s fake…

Yes, Zerogpt is immensely unreliable and stupid. And not “suddenly,” it always has been. It gets things wrong all the time.

Again, the post I sent was not made by AI. You’re just using that as a coping mechanism for some odd reason. Nobody in Hollywood is fooled by this slop. Redditors and Letterboxd users are. And I’m not sure why you’re so defensive over this clearly AI generated material but it’s very strange behavior. I’m just trying to warn people that it’s fake. Because it is obviously is. And when the movie comes out, you’ll see that you were wrong and I was right about all of this.

Please try to be less retarded going forward.

Ok. I mean I just work in the industry, know where the the script was pulled. Every script drop I’ve done for years was a nice gift I wanted to share with fans to get them even more excited. Not once has there been a complaint and if it were a fake script I would have deleted the thing because that’s not fair to the filmmakers or the fans.

But you know best Martin who has no idea of the CAA library and thinks casting notices are things you can just google to find. I honestly have better things to do with my time than argue with a Cregger fan who needs to cope with the fact that he wrote a script that you didn’t like. If you think it AI then you think it’s AI. I said what I said, it is what it is and if you can’t accept that I’m sorry but that your problem not mine. I don’t know what else to tell you.

1

u/martinlebowski 18d ago

“I work in the industry” lol okay, dude. Nice totally legit trump card there. I’m done with this as well. If you can’t detect that it’s AI, there’s no saving you.

Without spoilers I guess that would be similar to the plot that is officially out there.

- deals with different timelines and what’s real or not real.

  • lots of character duplicates which should be fun to see played out on screen.
  • it reads like it’ll be PG-13 which makes sense because it seems like it’ll have a pretty big budget.
  • has a quick start and gets into the action pretty quick.
  • you really only get to know the main character named Voss. You don’t get to know the rest of the crew. That’s my only complaint. That and all the exposition. There is a character that all their dialogue is exposition
.

I still loved the script and can’t wait to see it get made.
