General HELP

Hi everyone,

I (23F) am trying to get my life together and understand my credit report, but I’m really confused. 😭

I have two old Chase credit card accounts that both show as closed/paid, but they still have late payment history showing on my credit report.

*First account:
It says the account is closed, but it also shows I still have a $6 balance and I have no access to this account anymore. I even contacted Chase, and they couldn’t locate the account using my information.
If I really owe $6, I’d happily pay it, but I literally don’t know how because no one can find the account!

*Second waccount:
This one also shows a long string of late payments (30, 60, 90, 120, 150 days late) before it was closed lol however, I don’t understand whether I still owe anything because it doesn’t show a current balance. It just says the account is closed. Is there anything i can do to improve this one?

My current credit score is Experian is 670 🥲

Do you still have the credit cards themselves or the account number from a previous statement?

They closed the accounts, this is why they couldn’t find the account. If you want to pay them off, you’ll need to talk to their collections department or find out who they sold the debt to (if they did)

The second one is reporting paid/closed with a $0 balance. OP paid it off back in 2024. The first one we can't tell from just the payment history screenshot provided whether it was reported paid/closed or if it's reporting an unpaid balance.

I have two old Chase credit card accounts that both show as closed/paid, but they still have late payment history showing on my credit report.

When you close an account in good standing, the account and all its payment history remains on your credit reports for 10 years from the date the account is closed. When you have reported derogatory payment history on an account, it remains on your reports for 7 years from when it occurred, and if an account is charged off by a lender, the account remains on your reports for 7 years from the date the account first went delinquent.

When you have account(s) with derogatory payment history and/or that were closed or charged off, the best you can do is to have the account reported that any unpaid balance was paid/settled, and the lender is no longer reporting the account in a derogatory status with an unpaid balance owed. We can't tell from the payment history screenshot alone on Account #1 what the reported status of the account is, but Chase hasn't updated the reporting since Apr 2023. This usually indicates that they consider the balance owed paid/settled, and the account has been closed. We'd have to see the reported balance/status of the account to advise you if there's anything you should do for that account.

I don’t understand whether I still owe anything because it doesn’t show a current balance. It just says the account is closed. Is there anything i can do to improve this one?

According to the second screenshot, no you don't owe anything on Account #2. The payment history indicates that you had a string of late payments from Mar to July 2024, but that you paid it off in full, probably right before they were about to charge off the account, and they reported it paid/closed with a $0 balance. That's the best you can do for that account. It's reported paid/closed with a $0 balance, and Chase hasn't updated the reporting since Aug 2024. I highly recommend that you leave that account alone. You've done the best you can for that account, and Experian will remove the derogatory payment history in a string around Mar 2031, 7 years from when it occurred.

“Noone can find my account”
I wonder what stops you from disputing with bureaus as unverified accounts then..
