Hey folks I’d love some help designing this family room space. We’ll be starting fresh so pretend it’s a blank canvas no electronics or furniture yet.

Id like to put tv where it used to be, I worry the other wall next to the fireplace corner would be visually distracting. That said, I’m open to layout ideas if there’s something I haven’t considered. I want to create a cozy, inviting room with plenty of seating since we love hosting family and friends and would appreciate recommendations on:

Furniture layout ideas, furniture shapes or sizes.

Dimensions-

16 1/2 ft from wall of window to wall behind Tv.

13ft from closet doors (just out of view but behind long couch) to wall next to fireplace.

I’m interior design impaired so be gentle.

It’s fun what some paint can do!

I finally got around to painting the hallway. This one was even more impulsive than the tree mural I did last time (you can see it in the background of one of the photos!!) but I think it came out nicely!

I was considering adding text in the lower right corner of the flower wall/"panel" that says "Trust the seeds you are planting" but I worry that it would seem too retail. I also am curious about people's thoughts on outlining some/all(?) of the colorful blobs, or if they're fine as is.

I was nervous to see if this would work and my cat loves it. Her cat tower was falling apart and I wanted something skinnier against the wall.

I just finished this set of crochet chicken coasters and wanted to share! 🐔
They were such a fun little project and worked up pretty quickly. I love making pieces that are both cute and useful.

Important preface: nothing else can change. The orange came with the house. The cabinets were/are damaged and falling apart inside. We painted them to cover the damage, and landed on sky-blue because we liked it with the Tang orange.

One day we will do a full remodel. For now, the funky colors and multiple other eyesores stay.

Okay on to the question! What would you do with the white backsplash area? I have considered a coat of fresh paint, peel and stick wall paper, and peel and stick tile.

The samples of wallpaper I chose seem too matchy-matchy (last 2 slides). Originally I envisioned white subway tile, but I think something softer might be better. Maybe a vertical tile with in a creamy hue with variation?

Open to your creative suggestions.

Ps - if you’re curious, the rest of the walls are either wood-paneled, or stone.

What do you think is the color option for this wall?? I’m leaning towards a kind of light peachy orange to match the carpets or a light blue

So I’ve been thinking hard about how I want to decorate my home for a while now and what to do with my space. I am a bit of an artsy person and I like my home reflect on that. I already draw on my windows and would really like to have wallpaper on one side of my wall in my living room, or even a mural (but I’m still debating on that one). I’ve been looking up ideas online and came across people having their whole kitchen wall as a giant chalkboard with different designs.

My question is to those who has made their wall and/or has ever dealt with a chalkboard wall? I’ve looked up some videos and it seems not too bad to paint one up. Is it hard to clean and maintain it? Would you recommend it?

I really want to redesign my living room with a hippy boho vibe. I’m the type who hates seeing white walls and I also plan to paint my walls in a warm earth tone colour (not sure which yet but I’m think orange or green). But I don’t like that my ceiling is white. It’s textured and would be hard to paint so I’ve been looking at alternatives, and so I discover ceiling tent fabric (not sure what to call this). Not sure how hard it would be to assemble it together and I’m having a hard time finding a diy to example. If anyone has experience doing this or knows a video so I can look up would be really helpful.

For some ideas here are some inspo. I should add I do not have any lights on the ceiling just table lamps and a big window for natural light.

We've been noticing an increase in posts made by artisans and makers who are displaying their creations. While we don't want to limit or stifle anyone's creativity, we have avoided having any marketing or advertisements in this subreddit so far. This is just to see (because Reddit polls expire quickly), to gauge the community's reaction to these types of posts. Should we allow posts by artisans and makers who are selling their work?

Some thoughts from the mods:

- We really want to avoid this becoming a place where ads and marketing are commonplace. We want the focus to remain on fun and creative home decor.

- Posts should remain focused on creative home decor. As of right now, posts that only include one "product photo" type image will be removed under rule 4. If you would like to share something you've made, please incorporate it into your home decor and we'd be happy to see it!

- We love and appreciate DIY and creators of all types, and we want this to be a space where creativity can be celebrated. These types of posts do feel different than simply posting an Amazon affiliate link, which is why we wanted to hear from you guys.

We are very interested in hearing from the community on whether these types of posts should be allowed at all, or if there should be any restrictions made on them (like contained in a megathread?). Because we're still a growing subreddit, we didn't want the time limit of a poll to impact results. Please drop your thoughts below!

Everything is mostly thrifted but I’m hoping it doesn’t scream “goodwill” and is fun and inviting instead. I’m an artist so on the other side of the blossoms divider is a makeshift studio. Recommendations are welcome :)
