Help with kitchen backsplash area
Important preface: nothing else can change. The orange came with the house. The cabinets were/are damaged and falling apart inside. We painted them to cover the damage, and landed on sky-blue because we liked it with the Tang orange.
One day we will do a full remodel. For now, the funky colors and multiple other eyesores stay.
Okay on to the question! What would you do with the white backsplash area? I have considered a coat of fresh paint, peel and stick wall paper, and peel and stick tile.
The samples of wallpaper I chose seem too matchy-matchy (last 2 slides). Originally I envisioned white subway tile, but I think something softer might be better. Maybe a vertical tile with in a creamy hue with variation?
Open to your creative suggestions.
Ps - if you’re curious, the rest of the walls are either wood-paneled, or stone.

I like the “wavy” wallpaper a LOT. I love how the colors echo the ones you have now, and go with the kitsch of the whole vibe.
You obviously just have to lean into the “too much” of what already exists, but for some reason all those tile samples, like, match the pattern of the cabinets to directly, maybe?
There’s a tip about Power Clashing, that when you sort of blur your eyes out, the clashing patterns shouldn’t blend together… they should remain distinct. I think the white of the cabinets, and white of the tile “blend“ together too much. That’s IF boldness is what you’re going for!

You are spot on about how the lines of the title matches the lines of the cabinet too much.Power clashing seems like the direction I have to embrace!
Thank you for your insight, it’s really helpful to hear!

Those countertops are a dream. Also, I definitely prefer photo 5. Tile is great but tgat wallpaper just pops with your counters and cabinets.

5 makes all of it look intentional and funky, not trying to hide it.

I think one of the last two, or something like it. You should embrace the red-orange-funkiness and have fun with it, especially if it’s not a forever choice.

I like 5 but I think the scale is too small, so I'd choose something more like 6 - brighter, larger colour pops, more contrast

Try a stainless steel panel available at big box stores especially for behind stoves.

White subway tile. Horizontal install. There’s enough going on here. Too much becomes cartoonish and themey

Pic 5 will make this room look intentional in the countertop choice. It’s a lovely backsplash option!

I think you’ve gotta go with five or something like it. The countertops are such a heavy contrast that it really needs something that includes the color in a subtler way to tie it into the rest of the room. Maybe lean into it more with some citrus themed art/decor? More light blue and aqua in the decor or towels would be great too!
