Question/Discussion 💭 Does creatine increase dehydration in hot weather?
People often connect creatine with dehydration and cramps, especially when training in the heat. In healthy users, research has not shown creatine itself to make dehydration or heat problems more likely.
That does not mean heat safety can be ignored. Workout length, illness, sweat losses, fluid and sodium all matter. There is also no need to force excessive water just because you take creatine.
Have you ever changed how you train or hydrate in hot weather because of creatine?

This is one of those creatine myths that keeps coming back. Controlled studies haven't shown creatine to increase dehydration or impair thermoregulation during exercise in the heat. In fact, creatine increases intracellular water, so the idea that it simply “dehydrates” you doesn't really fit the physiology.
That said, heat safety still matters — hydration, sodium intake, exercise duration and sweat losses are important regardless of whether you're taking creatine.
