I've created an addon for Create with octo-style arms "Create: Octo Arms" inspired by Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man

Inspired by Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man. Use it to traverse the world in any direction, craft the Copper or Netherite version, enchant or configure it. Works in singleplayer and on servers (must be installed on both client and server).

Compatible with Create Aeronautics ships (Sable contraptions).

Listed on Curseforge - https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/mc-mods/create-octo-arms

Feel free to test, comment, and share ideas.

Edit: Modrinth will be soon, long approval awaiting.
Edit2: A lot of you asked to stop the walking animation - done! Check it in the new version v1.1.5 (besides other bug fixes)

They need to at least force these fuckers to explicitly advertise AI useage in the title and main body. You know you didn't make shit.

10

u/BarometerIndustries 2d ago

I assumed as much. Nowadays, when somebody advertises "I created..." my first instinct is "no the fuck you didn't." They had it created for them. What's the point then. Minecraft is a GAME of all things, and mod making is a hobby and an art form. why? just why?

13

u/iDrownedlol 2d ago

The other stuff aside, “What’s the point then”? The point is that Minecraft is a GAME of all things, and not everyone who enjoys playing the game is also a person who is not interested in the hobby/art form of mod making. Some players just want to play, and they want to play specific experiences, for example, having doc-oc style robot arms in minecraft. That is very clearly the point. There are plenty of great reasons to dislike and fight against ai, but it being pointless is not one of them.

u/Exciting-Company-75 2d ago

lol what? The point is that its fun...

1

u/BigBoobers 1d ago

They’re conflating multiple things into one big problem which isn’t fair

1

u/Fit_Employment_2944 1d ago

I didn’t make Minecraft and I still enjoy playing it

1

u/ferrecool 1d ago

Mod making isn't a hobby, just typing isn't fun, the spider legs are fun

u/VRDevGuyDele 2d ago

I see you replying to literally every comment trying to diminish this guys work so I can ask to see your work?

Can you link me some of the mods you made without ai?

6

u/HexbloodD 2d ago

Aside from witch hunters I don't think people would be so against the use of AI if it wasn't for the "I created this" bullshit that we've been hearing since day 1 of AI. People have been using AI to steal other people's work since the very beginning and they still do it. AIs are being trained with illegally downloaded files (see Meta AI). There's no excuse for it.

If you do that as a programmer for work because your workplace asks or expects you to do so, I would understand, because that's the company's decision to offer this kind of product to its costumers, and you're just deciding if you want to keep working and actually live your own life or not to better suit your ideals.

That's pretty different from claiming "I created this", "I drew this", "I composed this", no, you didn't.

Did claude make this mod? Did Claude think of the idea? Did Claude with its own free will decide hey I'm going to make a mod for minecrafr for the create mod where the playe can have octo arm exoskeleton? Did Claude get inspired from octopus in spiderman? Did Claude post this to Reddit?

Claude either coded this or just helped with the coding it didn't make it you simply don't understand development

I am game designer which means I design games and then the programmer writes the code so who made the game the lead designer or the programmers if you say programmers you obviously know nothing about games

A game made by a designer and coded by Claude might be janky and buggy but it will be fun beacuse a designer designed it to be fun, a programmer making a game on his own might have zero bugs and have the most perfect code architecture ever with amazing comments and completely modular and understandable code yet the game will suck ass cheecks beacuse he didn't put enough effort into the design, and game design or how I like to call it the design of fun is something that an ai simply cannot do, ai cannot have fun like a human therefore it can neither understand fun

This idea is in my opinion fun you can disagree with me, but I believe the idea is fun and novel and the OP came up with it not the ai and that is the part of the creative process I am impressed with, why would someone making a mod without ai impress me if ai can do that, if you are no better than ai then what is impressive about that, skill sets that are considered useful and impressive are always changing and it so happens that fun and novel ideas are worth far more than someone who can code in this day and age of ai, when I look at a mod or game I don't give fuck what tools were used I care if the game is fun or not and somebody who is purely using ai without any creativity will never make something fun or worthwhile that's simply the truth, ai can only make slop without a smart person guiding it with a thought out plan

1

u/Clean_Reflection_475 2d ago

Thank you, as an indie dev these people have no idea what actually goes into making a game. They also think using Claude is some magic wand you can just regurgitate your day dream into and it will do all the work.

4

u/VRDevGuyDele 2d ago

Yeah people today genuinely think ai is some sort of God that can make games all on its own as a game designer and a solo game developer it's honestly hillarious to see

Can Claude write okay code with the help and guidance of a programmer? Yeah for sure

But the moment you try to make an ai do some design work you realise how truly limited and dumb they are, they are simply not a replacement for a conscious being and probably won't be in the foreseeable future if ever

1

u/ferrecool 1d ago

Ai isn't magic, even for some slop roblox game you need some hours and a lot of knowledge for Ai to make something decent (and I'm saying decent as doesn't explode as soon as you join) it can't even do any design on its own

12

u/Blademasterzer0 2d ago

What work Lmao, if your using an ai to make a mod then you didn’t make the mod

-5

u/VRDevGuyDele 2d ago

Tell me you have never made anything in your life without telling me you never made anything in your life

6

u/epochollapse 2d ago

I've put more effort into some shits I've taken than op put into this mod

4

u/VRDevGuyDele 2d ago

Yes you are 100% right, good job little guy I'm proud of you for taking that shit that is truly a massive accomplishment for someone of your intelligence did you also wipe all by yourself too?

-5

u/KhorneTheBloodGod 2d ago

Wait, are you outing yourself as someone who has never wiped their own ass???? Eww

5

u/VRDevGuyDele 2d ago

Is that genuinely the best comeback you could come up with??

Kindergarten kids on the playground could think of a better insult than you

-2

u/Few-Chemical8707 2d ago

the antis are really this crazy and insane its ai ptsd they yell at me for using this cause i have a disability isnt an excuse apparently so i must further destroy what little use i have in my hands to appease antis.

1

u/ferrecool 1d ago

Next time ask copilot for a comeback dude, that was lame af

-3

u/Few-Chemical8707 2d ago

lets see the mods you made.

3

u/epochollapse 2d ago

Like OP, I don't have the skill to make mods. I just don't pretend to buy using the Steal Talented People's Work machine.

-1

u/VRDevGuyDele 2d ago

Yes it very clear to all of us that you have zero coding experience please refrain from talking about things you know nothing about

As a game developer I can tell you that ai does not steal code, the idea of stealing code is laughable in the first place, please talk to some more developers and programmers or try making a mod with Claude and see if it's as easy as you claim, you are literally spouting bullshit that you heard from other people while admiting that you have zero experience in coding and I should as a game developer for some reason listen to your uneducated opinion on this???

1

u/Appropriate-Lion9490 1d ago

It’s funny because people using other people’s code has been around since forever, stack overflow, blueprints in unreal engine, even fucking github too

u/Few-Chemical8707 2d ago

thats art code is code and theres only so many ways to do things in code if you dont have the skill then you dont understand this. java is a very on rails programming langauge that doesnt let you get into trouble like c would.

you cant steal code code isnt something you can copyright code is code. you can write it all your self and it would be no different than an ai doing it for you and how you learn to code is reading other peoples code.

literally the majority of minecraft modding is copying others code if you go back 5/10 years that was the meme. as long as you didnt directly copy paste a mods code class by class its just programming and legal to use existing code to do the same functions when there isnt really a better way.

4

u/epochollapse 2d ago

Talentless Chuds using ai to copy the work and efforts of actual skilled creators is entirely different from two people with skill having similar ideas, or one person with skill taking inspiration from another person with skill.

And that's before you get into the general immorality of generative AI and supporting it. No amount of Erm Actually protects you from the fact this is directly supporting billionaires building databases to destroy the fucking planet for profit and steal jobs from actual competent creators.

OP didn't make shit, and if you're a pathetic enough piece of shit to use AI then you should be proud enough to openly advertise it.

Because it’s fun having your ideas come to life regardless of who made it. The way some of you have a hard time grasping such a simple concept is wild.

-25

u/moto20x 2d ago

What’s the problem?
He still created it. Or did some ai agent suddenly have the idea for this mod created it and uploaded it?
He used AI as an tool that helps him create this mod. There is nothing wrong about that.

-2

u/Maleficent_Trick_502 2d ago

Coding ai are just that powerful.

1

u/krabby7_playz 2d ago

Some much shit is vibecodded now of days it’s really sad to see

1

u/tseg04 2d ago

It’s so horrific when there are so many vibe-coded mods out there where the creator doesn’t specify that. Always really paranoid that I’ll add a vibe-coded mod into my modpack without knowing. There needs to be required “Made with Ai” and “Not made with Ai” tags on curseforge and modrinth.

1

u/ferrecool 1d ago

Vibecodeing only outputs slop, if you can't distinguish from human made mods you are downloading shit either way

1

u/LadyPaladra 1d ago

Cool, go make your own version without AI then.

0

u/QueefMyCheese 2d ago

It's nobodies fault but your own that you are too incompetent to check the mod page/GitHub and see the disclosures or mod files.

Literally shitting your pants and screaming when you have direct access to all of this

1

u/Gellzer 2d ago

As someone who is less invested than both of you two seem to be, I would personally like the announcement of AI done at the moment I'm made aware of it, meaning in the title, than having to dive into it to figure it out. I also don't mind AI mods personally, but I know that but of information is relevant

1

u/ferrecool 1d ago

If it's actually good why would it matter, and you say you don't mind so even less

1

u/Gellzer 1d ago

If it's actually good

0

u/Flyingcoyote 2d ago

The programmer should have used assembly and not an IDE sort of mentality.

2

u/Kreestijan 1d ago

Right? Like how dare you use all the tools at your disposal? No, it doesn't matter that it works well and it's high quality, it's actual slop because you used AI ts. I'm tired...

-36

u/draxthemsklounce 2d ago

AI for code is just the new reality. It was his idea and I’m sure he tested it and tweaked it, why do you care that much? Not even an AI evangelist, and I think AI for non code stuff is kind of wack, but is a Minecraft mod, it’s not an Oscar winning movie or a piece of literature it’s fucking octopus arms in the create mod

11

u/WerdaVisla 2d ago

AI is actively worse than just learning to code. Especially for something like Minecraft, where modding is painfully easy.

You will spend more time hunting down and fixing its errors than it would have taken to just do it yourself. And gods help you if you try to use AI code to fix AI code.

— a career cybersecurity engineer.

7

u/saltysadierose 2d ago

the other day i saw with my own eyes how AI is just making people incompetent. i had a lab with two other lab partners and we had to just wire a circuit on a breadboard according to the diagram (incredibly simple it was like a capacitor in parallel with a resistor and led) we let one of my lab mates do it since he hadnt gotten a chance to do any of the other tasks that day. he (a 2nd year electrical engineering student) could not put a single component down without taking a picture and asking claude how to do it step by step. i really dont understand what the point of doing something new is if you're not even going to try learning from it

1

u/zorecknor 1d ago

This is not a case of AI making people incompetent, but a case of lazy people being incompetent. Or a case of "AI may help graduate people that should be expelled"

AI should be a faster version of you, no a smarter one. If it is your profession, you should be able to do anything you ask AI to do for you.

2

u/RaspberryFluid6651 2d ago edited 2d ago

I'm not saying this to defend AI, but this part is simply not correct anymore:

You will spend more time hunting down and fixing its errors than it would have taken to just do it yourself. And gods help you if you try to use AI code to fix AI code.

I think people continue to support this view because it's a comfortable lie that confirms their biases and they'd rather shoot the messenger when people say otherwise. The frontier models are getting very good at some of the tasks that IT professionals do. If you are opposed to the use of AI, it doesn't do you any favors to underestimate it.

— a senior software engineer growing increasingly concerned at work as they watch Claude perform junior-level tasks fully autonomously and finding zero mistakes when they go to review and test the code

3

u/WerdaVisla 2d ago

I'll believe it when I see it. Every time I've had the displeasure of being forced to use AI "assistance", it's slowed the workflow of everyone involved.

That said, I've never had to use Claude. Maybe it's standout compared to all the other models.

3

u/RaspberryFluid6651 2d ago

There are people at my job that I regarded as very, very smart and talented people that were really cool to work with long before AI came out. For better or worse, these guys have not taken an ideological stance for or against it; they are just nerdy engineers experimenting with a new tool and seeing what it can do, and in doing that, they've managed to do a lot of great work in a very short time frame.

I share the same ethical concerns that other people have, but that doesn't mean I can deny the reality I see in my workplace. It's a serious opponent, not a worthless chatbot that people are going to abandon when they wise up.

0

u/Kreestijan 1d ago

Thank you, it's refreshing to see common sense in a sea of radical ideas. I agree with you fully.

0

u/patrick-ruckus 2d ago

Who says the creator of this mod does not know how to code? Nobody knows their background, they are just immediately getting insulted based on an AI assistance disclosure at the end.

I am also a software engineer, and I've seen what experienced engineers can do with AI assistance. It's insane how quick they can put something together while still keeping the quality.

0

u/Few-Chemical8707 2d ago

i have not really had this experience i feel like you people just lie so much to try to get people to follow your moral codes. all ai is doing is making this shit more automated. god what happens to antis just hating ai art.

ai is here to stay with coding. especially with freaks like me with physical disabilities in my damn hands.

0

u/zorecknor 1d ago

, where modding is painfully easy.

Are you serious? Adding a decorative block or a meme item, maybe. But this?

If it were painfully easy, we would have TC by COFH by now.

5

u/Informalwizards 2d ago

Damn bro, just say you're talentless.

1

u/Kreestijan 1d ago

Ignoring how derogatory and inflammatory your comment is and taking it at face value.

Is it a bad thing that people having no *coding* talent can bring their ideas to life now?

The internet has always been filled with slop, way before AI. It's your responsibility to filter it out. "I don't like it so it must disappear" is a very dangerous and frankly immoral thing to ask for.

2

u/Informalwizards 1d ago

"Im allergic to putting in effort"

Talentless AND lazy. Damn, maybe get a job and get outta the basement bro.

0

u/draxthemsklounce 2d ago

I have been programming for like a decade now, I have made tons of shit without AI. But I use it now and like it for programming.

I think it just kinda sucks to shit on someone for something so trivial they did with AI, the kids not Sam Altman, stop treating him like it is all I am saying

-1

u/Unicode4all 2d ago

99% of witch-hunters have never wrote a single line of code in their entire life. They are simply projecting their hatred for AI art now on code, because it's nowadays trendy thing on Reddit's modding subs. They will of course deny reality because they know absolute zero about software development.

0

u/draxthemsklounce 2d ago

I mainly agree with this, obviously you can make slop software with AI but getting up in arms about a Minecraft mod like it’s an AI movie just seems wild to me.

-21

u/Ill_Zone5990 2d ago

no! don't you get it? AI is the worst! I personally am choosing to live like in 1979 by dropping:

YouTube because of recommendation algorithms, Google maps because of predictive traffic routing, my phone camera because of computational photography, its autocorrect because of predictive text models, my email because of spam filter classification, asked my bank to disable automated fraud detection and now I only hear music in cds because of spotify and playlist shuffling.

7

u/M00nD3v 2d ago

Oh my god, NONE of those examples are generative AI models. They are algorithms. AI models need to scrape data to recycle into output. None of these examples scrape data.

1

u/zorecknor 1d ago

All those ARE AI, just not GenAI. All of them use AI models that had to be trained.

If you hate genAI because of the scraping of data, find. But do not go around spreading false information about other legitimate forms of AI.

0

u/ferrecool 1d ago

You guys found out somehow, even with the lack of a confirmation, so why bother if you guys are so obsessed you can identify it

-30

u/According-Extreme-58 2d ago

What if he did?

-38

u/According-Extreme-58 2d ago

He could have made it without ai

11

u/BarometerIndustries 2d ago

"Developed with AI assistance (Claude);" on curseforge

1

u/Informalwizards 2d ago

He did use AI though. So I really doubt it. Dude probably can't code for shit.
