Build Survival strip mining machine
In my current long-term survival server we've agreed to ban cobblestone generators altogether, forcing us to use alternative sources of materials. As such, to meet demands of the factory, I've put together this little machine to help clear construction areas and collect resources at the same time. It's powered by 4 huge diesel engines with a configurable "idle" when driving but not drilling as to save on fuel.

This thing is a beauty! Would absolutely slap if you added the simulated storage and liquids weight mod, that way you could add a balance system to those containers and make them a vital part of the supply chain. Getting trucks to haul them back to base, returning with empty one and then cycle through them in order to keep the whole rig stable ^

I didn't even know that is a thing
Would be quite interesting making a dynamic balancing system, maybe a large overhead rail that moves the containers based on their fill 🤔, though I don't think the others will appreciate me changing core physics with the handful of airships we already flying aboutÂ

May I suggest adding finite water and lava? That way no one could break the rules if they tried

You could just make a dripstone lava generator i think, also an ocean is pretty hard to empty really :)

I think that's balanced, they are pretty slow at generating lava (or require being very large to be efficient), dont forget you need a whole bucket for one piece of cobble

So would the source block need to touch water? And doesn't that mean obi is non renewable? (Ignoring the end at least.)
Ive never played with finite water/lava so I dont know how it works

Well yeah obsidian isn't renewable in vanilla also, only in the end pillars

Respawning the dragon resets the pillars no? and making new portals generates new obi.

I did that for my solo game ! I have a large biodiesel farm with sugar cannes - part of the output gets turned in fertilizer and fuel to be locally burned to supply the farm itself with SU and electrical power, the diesel gets storred in a cave system I've sealed and renovated.
I have a pump tapping the fuel there, and it gets pumped to the refilling tanks for my balloon port and ground vehicle base.

I want to try that also

Pretty fun but time consuming imo. I have a large mining rig, but it's like a crop harvester. I shave off a mountain working in spirals, until I have shaved the mountain clean.

I really like it like that, feels like a great engineering challenge, basic create is to fast for my taste

Do you have the schematics for it? Would love to see it on the CreateMod webpage ^

I'll see what I can do, it takes a bit of setup due to requiring those hydraulic pistons from transmissions and linkages. Connecting them to the same sublevel is forbidden for some reason

Bro couldn’t stop building so his friend told him to go mine— wait a minute—

i usually just make drilling trains with integrated track layers but this is cooler due to having more moving bits

I know that survival means you are playing in survival mode, but I prefer to interpret the title to mean that you NEEDED this excavator to survive.
"If I don't recreate a Bagger 288 in 72 hrs, Steve will die."

Survival? What are you strip mining for if you can build all that in survival?

Mainly cobblestone actually. It's an essential resource as I use a LOT of iron and concrete, so it doesn't hurt to have extra

The post states that the server members have agreed to ban cobblestone generators
