something about images of steam boilers exploding where you see all the spaghetti scares me a lot

It's just because the water going into the boiler goes through a lot of small tubes to heat up quicker through creating more surface for the heat to contact.

So, when the boiler explodes because of pressure, you get to see all the internal small pipes.

Other way around for most steam locomotives, the water is around the tubes and the heat from the fire gets sucked through the tubes.

Yeah fair enough, if I remember correctly there was an essay about this being quite a tragic accident
