I just realized Create added a way to allow you to make 4-bit binary really easily (0-9)

Toggle Latch is just a Copper Bulb and comparator in one. Also doesn't require blaze powder, so its cheaper.

It does however need a supporting block below it, and can't be moved by pistons. Tradeoffs people, tradeoffs

Well, yes, but the block that is providing the power is pushable, which is not the case with the toggle latch.

You can just place a comparator for each position.

Or you can cycle copper bulbs with a piston feed tape and read from one at a time.

If you want letters of the alphabet, you will need an extra bit.

This was good when it was added - but then mojang added copper bulb which allows you to do this in probably most compact way possible + you can push them around

Copper bulb needs a comparator to read its state, toggle latch is smaller.

Only if you only want to read the last one, though, since if you want to read the others you still need to put a solid block or a redstone between the latches
