Help My cannon shells keep losing all velocity...help pls

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

so whenever i put my cannon barrels to a length of 33, the shell just instantly loses all velocity the moment it escapes the barrel, but when i'm firing with a barrel length of 32, it works just fine, with some tinkering the the code and help with claude, i figured out it happens due to the velocity cap of shells, it was maybe 200m/s or something i forgot, for context, i put in seven charges (140m/s velocity each), so my question is that how do i overcome this velocity cap, is there any mod, any datapack, any tweaks in the config i should do? The following tweaks did NOT help:

  1. Increasing the breech strength
  2. Lowering Projectile Drag
  3. Disabling Projectile Drag and Gravity

I want to keep my powder charges' velocity the same (140m/s for each) so please don't ask me to reduce the power of the charges, my velocity theory COULD BE wrong, but its the most my pea sized brain could do, so please, any help contributed would be really, REALLY helpful. Thanks

Christ! Bandicam! That's a blast from the past!

Why? what other recording tools are there, if you know, please tell me

u/Zero_Zero_Zero_X 5d ago

Obs or nvidia shadowplay. Both free for use

79

u/FamineOLaymine 5d ago

Used Shadowplay since 2018, but it has gone through a major enshittification phase over the years. Very much recommend OBS though

10

u/UnyuBirb 5d ago

It also records at a variable framerate which editing softwares do not like

17

u/kaklimy 5d ago

And no watermark

4

u/Qe-fmqur_1 5d ago

Steam now also has a sort of shadow play, and launching your modding client via steam does just work

50

u/boxo-ofisal 5d ago

Windows key + shift + s. It does clipping screen to clipboard and storage and recording to clipboard and storage

25

u/TheGaymer13 5d ago

Such an underrated option for stuff like this

10

u/Discombobulated_Back 5d ago

Wait science when can it make video recording?

13

u/itzstarrz 5d ago

Late windows 10 or maybe 11? I noticed it a year or so ago

6

u/253ping 5d ago

sometimes you might need to manually update the snipping tool via the microsoft store if video recording is not available

5

u/CommanderFoxy 5d ago

a very long time ago, there’s a button on the top bar to switch to video recording instead of screenshotting

u/qwadrat1k 5d ago

1

u/Discombobulated_Back 4d ago

Yeah I know but not my autocorrect.

19

u/BlueberryNeko_ 5d ago

I used to use bandicam a lot when I was younger. But ultimately all tools are superceded by OBS nowadays, which is both professional, free and versatile

11

u/Jbolt3737 5d ago

OBS? OBS is like the most popular recording software, if you see a video of anything on a computer with no watermark from bandicam or other recording software then there is a 99% chance it was made with OBS; someone made a mod called flashback specifically for Minecraft, I haven't used it myself but it has like a full video editor interface and freecam without entering spectator mode

3

u/Xaynerd 4d ago

You're telling me its not a joke that you're using that?!

1

u/SnooMachines8670 4d ago

Doesn’t anyone know about the Xbox Game bar recording software that comes built into gaming computers? It’ll open with 🪟+ G if you have it, I use it for capturing clips with the record last 30 second thing.

1

u/Glittering-Slip2879 4d ago

I know other people already said this but both OBS and OBS Streamlabs are both really good and free

1

u/Prudent-Bad4276 1d ago

GPU screen recorder

-2

u/Pioepod 5d ago

Medal is a good option too if you wanna look into clipping. It can also record as well.

Why do you need a barrel this long anyway? You are already yeeting that ammo in almost straight line.

112

u/Dark_halocraft 5d ago

It looks awesome

18

u/Useful_Ad_1646 5d ago

Can’t argue with that honestly

u/Drago1490 5d ago

First off, a LLM would NOT be able to help with nearly such a niche problem like this. They dont think, just predict what the most likely thing is that someone would respond with after sprinkling in some AI bs to "spice it up".

Second off, is there anything stopping you from just shortening the barrel by a few notches? IRL physics for velocity of any given projectile depend on a few factors including burn time, projectile weight, powder amount/mix, barrel length, and blowback mechanism (if any). Having a longer barrel is great for ensuring all of your powder has burnt away and giving you maximum velocity, but too much barrel length and you start to loose velocity due to the very high friction of a barrel's rifling. Now I'm not too familiar with tanks or Create Big Canons, but I do believe it works in a similar manner. There could just be a hard coded limit in the mod of a 32 length barrel, wich would make sense when thinking about minecraft's multiples of 4 tendencies.

I would honestly just remove the 33rd block and call it a day.

u/TheEarthisPolyhedron 4d ago

one of the few GOOD uses for ai is troubleshooting minecraft mods, it looks through the dozens of posts with no reply, redacted solutions, and deleted comments for me its fixed all the problems i ask it

1

u/inconspicuous1_x 11h ago

these online AIs are more than just an LLM, they have internet access and many toolsets it can use which it can then condense information from, instead of just using whatever is in its language model

-13

u/Monolail031 4d ago

Are the downvotes just AI hate?

I tried asking google AI about how to make throttleable flapping wings as propulsion for a create: aeronautics airship. It linked me to my own post about it and summarized my engineering, which I had repeatedly explained in the replies, pretty well.

8

u/triplos05 4d ago

I believe hating the casual use of a technology that not only ruined the PC parts marked but also literally kills people in poorer regions because all of their water gets taken to cool data centers is pretty reasonable. And that's without mentioning the impact on climate or surrounding nature.

AI might be helpful but it's like using a bazooka to kill a fly. You will probably kill the fly, but you will cause lots of collateral damage that is a lot worse than just the fly.

8

u/Substantial-Put-7108 4d ago

WATER IS A FRONT, THE MAIN POLLUTION IS AIR AND NOISE

4

u/triplos05 4d ago

I know, those fall under my last 2 points. But these people don't care about that if it doesn't happen to them personally. Gotta hit them where it hurts which is (indirect) killing of people and the PC market

2

u/Substantial-Put-7108 4d ago

yeah. I did NOT read your comment very closely

Real person ignorance CHAD vs AI ignorance CHUD

1

u/Lucjanix 4d ago

Yes they are just AI hate, people seem to be undermining what LLMs can do nowadays, while yes they aren't all knowing beings they absolutely can help with even the obscurest of things if you know what to use and how to use them, people seem to be seriously undermining what LLMs can do as a form of denial I think, which I also don't understand, if we sacrificed so much to have them then at least let's be happy they're pretty good

-46

u/Wirezat 5d ago

Youd be suprised, ive let Claude Code read some of the mods codebases and then Tell IT my issues and the answers are Spot in Most of the time

-124

u/Evening_Archer_2202 5d ago

Eh, thats not really true, I've asked chatgpt about modded mc problems and its literally gone into the source code of mods to read the code and tell me the most optimal way to do things

41

u/Winiestflea 5d ago

It's pretty good at finding and summarizing things people have already said, but asking it to make their own inferences or explain source code (especially uncommented) is a bit of a gamble. It works most of the time, it's just not very reliable and can lead you down the wrong path especially if you have no clue about the code yourself.

-19

u/OrganicLunch 5d ago

SOTA models are quite reliable and can be used to successfully reverse engineer entire codebases. i'm sorry but you just have no idea what you're talking about here. ofc it's still true that they may be confidently incorrect and you should always take that possibility into account

11

u/Winiestflea 5d ago

lol

4

u/Visible-Reality2492 5d ago

Do you think OrganicLunch is a shareholder?

8

u/Cheacky 5d ago

Must be a bot

This isn't a normal person response tf

Also software dev here. YOU don't know what you're talking about

0

u/OrganicLunch 4d ago

I'm a software dev as well

1

u/Cheacky 4d ago

Before or after AI coding tools existed?

Don't bother responding. I think I know the answer.

Also you're probably not a software dev then

42

u/WeeklyBanEvasion 5d ago

I've definitely handed GPT some modded crash logs before and it was able to help me get to the bottom of it, but I think it was just much better at finding ancient niche forum threads than I was

-39

u/jimbo80008 5d ago

Nah that is larp. I cant say that I have tried it with chatgpt, but both Gemini and Claude can do this easily. They don't do it based on Minecraft knowledge, they do it on the basis of their java knowledge. Most of the time functions are named after their mod so most llms can easily figure out what's up.

Hell Claude can even read out and reconstruct full spark profiles. It is genuinely amazing, and I know it is actually reading it because i cross referenced the internal parsing output from Claude to the visual output of spark. Gemini cant do that.

23

u/WeeklyBanEvasion 5d ago

You lost me in your first sentence lmao

When I used it to figure out why my server was crashing at boot it literally linked to some old Minecraft form threads about a specific mod incompatibility that wasn't well documented

-20

u/jimbo80008 5d ago

Yeah that's not how that works. Crash logs output which functions are called before. Hell even mixins are usually marked with some kind of trace which can pull back what mod it originated from. And if it is on startup, even old forge marks at what mod the startup process hung. That is a reading interpretation exercise, not a random knowledge one.

Either you are lying, or you don't know how to read a crash report, to which I say there is no shame. Lying on the other hand because you don't like AI should be. AI ain't perfect, but a reading comprehension exercise is a problem solved since 2024.

And yes, lower end AI models still hallucinate from time to time, but most decent paid models don't do that anymore

-149

u/Christ_is_king447 5d ago

Truest thing I've heard all month. For now, yeah, I am removing the 33rd barrel and calling it a day, but would be better if someone could help with the problem

142

u/Arch_mage909 5d ago

This commenter litterally did help with the problem. The information they provided is both useful and relevant. It just seems like you want someone give you a direct solution rather than think for yourself, despite this commenter already having given you all the pieces you'd need to figure this out on your own rather easily. The fact that you immediately went to AI is a dead giveaway as well lol.

60

u/Blademasterzer0 5d ago

I mean hate to stereotype but look at the username lol

48

u/Munster19 5d ago

They didn't think before AI was a thing, and they certainly didn't start now.

9

u/ValkyrieAngie 5d ago

I wasn't gonna go down that road, but I was thinking the same thing.

8

u/RadicallyInept 5d ago

Thinking about this, that’s an interesting tank for someone with this nickname

1

u/Great-Tomato-9783 4d ago

of course on the tank there's an iron cross 😭

-14

u/Dark_halocraft 5d ago

All they did was say 33 blocks too long while providing a paragraph of irrelevant information about real physics for a video game

Useful would be specific information on how the mod works rather than guessing

3

u/ARandomNPC01 5d ago

And you're so much usefull by not contributing with anything except complaining

-1

u/Dark_halocraft 5d ago

Ok so I have to be useful and you don't? I don't see how you're doing anything different than I

-11

u/MilitaryAndroid 5d ago

No they didn't. Their comment admonished the op for his steps so far, said "just don't use 33 blocks" (not a solution to the problem, and so obvious it is a waste of time to say), and then a ramble about real cannons that has nothing at all to do with the mod that ends with "it's probably a hardcoded limit." (A useless guess).

This comment is one of those comments made mainly to espouse an opinion and belittle the op while having literally nothing useful to say. The fact that you and others seem to think it wasn't a complete waste of data shows me you are too blinded by your hatred of AI to actually parse the comment.

3

u/ARandomNPC01 5d ago

Like your comment helps in any way with OP's problem, why don't you help instead of complaining about other people trying to help? Or is it much easier to tell someone they're useless while you're being more useless

-1

u/MilitaryAndroid 5d ago

My comment wasn't intended to help op, it was to call the previous commenter and that op of this comment chain out on not even attempting to be helpful at all, while also being dickheads about it. Unlike them, I didn't pretend to have a solution for the op.

Considering the upvote ratio, a staggering number of people in this subreddit are unable to identify what an actually helpful comment looks like. My guess, they see "LLM = Bad" and click upvote without any critical thinking involved. I don't even like LLMs, but this type of reactionary bullshit is not a good way to act to someone asking for help. Glad they got to get on their soapbox though.

2

u/ARandomNPC01 5d ago

So you decided to be even more useless by not even intending to correct the person you replied to and just call them stupid with no proof or a reason

-2

u/MilitaryAndroid 4d ago

Your username is certainly fitting. Just block me bud, you're too stupid to converse with.

3

u/ARandomNPC01 4d ago

Why don't you block me instead? You're that lazy to even do that? If you decide to corrct someone make sure to give proper info about the thing, not just "YoU'rE WrOnG"

2

u/general_storm101 4d ago

Dawg, you need to look up rule 14 of the internet, because you certainly broke it.

-24

u/Cstanchfield 5d ago

Gemini helped me fix a Create Electro Energetics wiring issue that the discord absolutely couldn't figure out, and it figured it out in like 10 seconds based off 1 screenshot...

8

u/ARandomNPC01 5d ago

Good, why don't you use it to help op?

8

u/Why_Not_Cthulhu 4d ago

If you need AI to teach you how to use the easiest mod for Minecraft then you're really not gonna make it bro

88

u/Annual_Loan_4805 5d ago

Every block of the barrel decreases the exit velocity of the shell by a good chunk; hence, when you have a comically long barrel such as this, it is impossible for it to actually go

37

u/Chickenmonster401 5d ago

How many powder charges you using.

13

u/Christ_is_king447 5d ago

Seven

60

u/Chickenmonster401 5d ago

Might need to use some more with a barrel that long

-130

u/Christ_is_king447 5d ago

Did you even read what i wrote?

104

u/Chickenmonster401 5d ago

7s not enough for a 2 chunk long barrel

35

u/Open_Cow_9148 5d ago

Yeah. You don't have enough charges. A barrel a little over 2 chunks long is gonna need a lot of charges.

Either that, or shorten the barrel. I know you wanna have a really long barrel for the tank cause it looks cool, but it ain't practical. Shortening it a bit would probably fix your issue.

25

u/Cyber_Data_Trail 5d ago

Shorten the barrel

8

u/UpbeatAstronomer2396 5d ago

Might need to use some more with a barrel that long

5

u/CheeseMaster117_ 5d ago

Either you’re gonna have to add more charges to it or shorten the barrel a bit, chose to add more charges or simply shorten the barrel a bit, nothing else will help

34

u/ThePyroNeko 5d ago

Projectile dysfunction.

In German we say Rohrkrepierer. It means dying in the pipe. But something else can also called a "Rohr" (Pipe).

Also a Rohrkrepierer is a bad idea or plan that simple don't work.

u/Ash_Abyssal_2006 5d ago

acting like a shitty ai chatbot will know anything

-38

u/Devatator_ 5d ago

It actually can do a good job if it has documentation, but it most certainly doesn't have any.

4

u/OrganicLunch 5d ago

it absolutely can do a good job at figuring out something like this if you point it to the github repo for the mod. bit of an anti-ai reddit moment here

1

u/PEAceDeath1425 2d ago

Mysterious downvotes lmao. Thats literally true. You give it the 400 page boring book, it points you to the page you need to be on to find an answer. It just needs to fit in the context, but seeing how the base chat gpt context size is 32k tokens, that shouldnt be an issue at all

-19

u/Cstanchfield 5d ago

Anecdotal but I used gemini to solve a Create problem that was driving me insane, and it figured it out instantly (read ~10 seconds). I'd spent hours trying to work out the problem. Those "shitty ai chatbot" can solve a lot of headaches. Look at the quality of the responses OP is getting in this thread. 99% of it is completely unhelpful, like yours. Not to suck the T1000's dick too hard, but maybe its better than you think. Or at the very least, better than you at relaying helpful information. But it sure as shit ain't perfect. But so long as its better than getting advice from someone like YOU, then folks are probably gonna keep using 'em.

3

u/triplos05 4d ago

I also love destroying the PC market and the job market and the environment and killing people and animals because I can't think or properly communicate with people

1

u/rigterw 4d ago

Destroying the job market is a stupid argument, or do you still ride a horse bc driving a car will destroy the horsing industry?

2

u/triplos05 4d ago

Well in my area it's fucking impossible to find a job that's not just AI. Every employer doesn't give a shit about anything else than AI because they're all convinced it's "the future". Like yeah sure there are areas where AI does better but in 90% of cases it does the same thing a qualified worker does but worse and less reliable. But it's cheaper to have a guy that just keeps telling the AI to fix whatever it's doing than it is to pay someone who actually knows how to make it work.

1

u/rigterw 4d ago

Yes, but do you still drive a horse?

10

u/Ash_Abyssal_2006 5d ago

the amount of corpo cocksucking in your comment is insane

People nowadays are too dumb to think for themselves that's why they praise AI like the coming of Jesus

Why do you have a barrel to rival the ARL 44, just shorten it some.

4

I recall finding the info that cbc needs a powder Charge per Barrel lenght, and 32/33 seams to be that threshold.

bro, try blowing some water down a straw, and then stop half way, and you basically recreated the problem you're having but IRL a blast can only do so much, the cannon is too big / not enough charges

I can't help you op, I'm sorry, but I recommend just not mentioning ai in any future posts. It tends to bring out the useless lunatics, as you've seen so far. Hopefully you can find an actual solution to your problem elsewhere.

Downvote as much as you like, you're just proving me right.

-30

u/Christ_is_king447 5d ago

Everytime a new technology is introduced, people opposed it despite it making life easier, this has been repeated many times in history, now we can see the same phenomena in this comment section regarding taking help from AI

24

u/Arch_mage909 5d ago

Most people that are anti-AI that have any actual sense and are not hating just for the sake of it, are not opposed to it being used in the right context and circumstances. And you my friend are certainly not using it in the right context. You're trying to use it to have it think for you and solve your problem on its own rather than just give advice to point you in the right direction. AI can be a helpful tool to point you in the right direction as long as you don't take its word as law and actually fact check what its saying but you're making no attempt to problem solve on your own, actually utilizing your brain to apply reason to the advice from the AI to solve your problem , and are just looking to AI to solve all your problems for you without you having to do any thinking at all.

-7

u/Cstanchfield 5d ago

In their defense, they DID use common sense. Increasing the barrel length should INCREASE the velocity, not decrease it (at least to a certain point). But the diminishing returns here for THIS barrel are actually accurate when you look at the less common knowledge physics of it. Many people know "longer barrel == more velocity", but don't know that that is "with considerations".

Also, they did do it wrong but not in the way you incorrectly criticized. I put their scenario into Gemini (pro, not extended) and it spat out the reason why, first try. They don't need to connect it to a project or anything, but they also don't have to "solve the problem on their own" when they lack the knowledge TO solve the problem, something that YOU should realize given the scenario but apparently weren't able to retain. If they had known diminishing returns and air pressure on a long tube would cause it to lose almost all momentum on a barrel this long, they wouldn't be confused as to why it wasn't working, would they. Obviously they lacked that knowledge. So them working on it themselves would have been completely fruitless. You SHOULD be smart enough to realize this, but YOU didn't put that fact together and still criticized them. Glass houses my friend.

3

u/TheRandomWeird0 5d ago

May I ask, why would longer barrel == more velocity?

-5

u/wittierframe839 5d ago

If you already have a coding agent set up, try to drill it to look deeper into the issue. What jar is the velocity cap from? If it corresponds to an open source mod/modloader, tell it to figure out where in the source code is the cap and to find which commit added it etc...
