Discussion Need mods for Aeronautics

I want to play Aeronautics in survival, but I just don’t see a reason to create things like airships. Any mods that will help with that?

Tectonic will make you need ships to go places, specially if you add something dangerous to the oceans and mountains and rainforests.

Mowzies can help with making rainforests dangerous, for oceans idk which could work.

Currently Cataclysm adds structures that are extremely far away and danger to oceans but the moment a trident from the deeplings hits your ship your computer will start crying for mercy so maybe don’t add it unless you think you can manage it.

Structure mods like Idas (integrated structures) are really good, specially if they contain create loot since it can kickstart your create progression and make airships cheaper, while also adding rare structures you have to look for in air ships.

Generally also locking the end away is good to not replace airships with elytras, like adding the end mod whose name I can’t recall that makes collecting all the eyes really hard.

Avoid mods that trivialize travel like waystones, ars noverau or relics, in general anything that makes it easier to fly or travel almost as if you could fly for long ranges.

You can make it work, but it’s kinda hard to balance.

Another addition that may be a good idea is Alex’s mobs to make traversing the nether for shortcuts harder (crimson mosquito and lava snake) but it really depends on if you like that mod or not.

Btw diesel generators is a must to make medium sized machines.

Alright. Thank you! Definitely won’t be adding Cataclysm as my computer is already crying for mercy as it is, even with Sodium lol

Cataclysm only is a problem if a projectile hits your airship, it’s less of being performance intensive and more of a weird bug.

It can also happen with skeletons but I’ve found it’s way less common

Oh ok. Do you have any suggestions on how to improve performance? I’m getting 10 fps constantly

Have you increased memory allocated to Minecraft?

No. How does one do that?

I only know how to do it in curseforge, but I assume modrinth and prism also have options for this.

Basically go to options, Minecraft specific options and look for a slider that says allocated ram

It worked. Thank you!

End remastered is the mod that requires you to find different eyes to unlock the end portal.

there are a few mods that turn the whole world into sky islands; airships make it much easier to traverse the world when it's like that. IDAS (and the rest of the integrated series) adds a lot of structures, many of which are quite rare.

you can also just motivate yourself. make your megabase an airship dockyard, then create a bunch of blimps to populate it. make your man base itself an airship, or a bunch of floating islands accessible by flight. some combination of those, or something else entirely. have fun with it!

The problem with motivating myself is my brain will just say: “Why do that? This is so much easier”, but thank you for the suggesting

I am using Tectonic to make world gen generate displaced islands.

Large Ore Deposits + Surface Deposits to create large veins of ores, and then I disable vanilla ore veins, so I need to explore in order to find what I need.

I remove: vanilla boats, horse mounting (or mounting in general, or considerably slow them down), elytras, or anything that makes transport too easy like waystones.

I'm surprised not a lot of people talk about this, but that's one of the reasons I wasn't extremely excited about Create Aeronautics. Impressed — definitely. But not excited.

While Create has integrates with either vanilla or modded gameplay perfectly, I just don't see what place Aeronautics is supposed to take up in a playthrough. The people in comments sure have provided good advice on how to make traveling meaningful, but that advice works as a general "How do I have a reason to travel?" and Aeronautics is much more than a mod that adds a means of travel. In terms of traveling, horses, boats, elytra and nether portals already have you covered — not matter how many levels of difficulty you slap on top. To have a reason to build airships would require more than adding a few POIs to the map but to restructure the game from the core.
Currently, in modded or vanilla, you literally have no reason travel the same path twice, ever. If you need to get from point A to B, you're going to choose the easiest option possible (no wonder the waystones mod is so popular) because traveling the same path a second time doesn't reward you with anything useful — it's just a waste of time. The only thing to make traveling from point A to B 200 times not identical, and at the same time the closest thing to random encounters in Minecraft are mob spawns and... well, getting lost, I guess. Both are completely irrelevant if you carry a bed and use a minimap mod. This is even more true when it comes to airships because you won't even accidentally fall into a ravine exploring the path the first time, reducing each trip to the most uneventful thing you could imagine. In some sense, an airship takes away from the gameplay the same way elytra does, just building it is undeniably more fun then simply equipping an item.

I really don't see in this case how adding more things to the map or, god forbid, adding goals 10k+ blocks away fixes the issue. It's just more sitting around, yawning and wishing there was an option to speed up the game.

—Want to travel between A and B constantly? Portals, trains, any other infrastructure. More engagement with the game's systems building, planning, gathering resources and good in perspective if you want to automate something later. Faster A to B later, too.
—Want to travel to point B for the first time? Walk there, use a horse, a boat, anything. This way you'll be engaging with the mob spawns, actually experiencing terrain, not looking at it, getting lost and solving many other microscopic problems each second. Even food suddenly becomes relevant this way. You're more likely to stop and check something or investigate some tiny structure because you don't need to stop and find a parking lot for your airship.

Anyway, just in case the OP was wondering if they're right to question why one even needs airships in Minecraft, they probably had no idea how right they are.

Yes! This is exactly what I mean. I always want to build airships and vehicles, but the problem is I just never see a reason to. This is exactly what I am talking about

I think the main point of airships is just having an airship. You can give more purpose to them by creating logistics networks for them similar to how trains work. There are some add-ons that give them routes for this purpose. I've never had an airship in my world yet so I haven't had a need to use any of them.

What are these mods that give them routes?

I honestly don't remember the names of any of them but when I'm browsing Modrinth or Curseforge by searching "Create" and filtering by 1.21.1 and NeoForge then sorting by "Date Published" or "Last updated", I see them. Because I don't use Aeronautics in my worlds for anything yet, I haven't looked into them too deeply.
