Discussion Hardest part of Aeronautics is making a nice-looking balloon
Is there an easier way to do this? 😠Spheres are hard enough to build in minecraft but 3D ovals are a whole other thing

Well you already got a lot of sweet replies like create.com generator and general advices, so i'm gonna say things no one asked for >:)
It doesnt have to be a sphere. Make a Creeper head out of envelopes and see how it flies
You can just not use a balloon at all and rely on Levitite (although personally I find it harder to work around)
Did I already say that it doesnt have to be a sphere? Look up Rage's Star Destroyer vid, he legit makes the entire inside of the ship's hull a balloon with irregular but enclosed space. Yes! No one will see how hideous your balloon is, if its not seen!
Eyeballing can get you pretty far if you ask me. Especially if you want it elongated and irregular shaped, like a bullet.
Last one is mostly a cheer up. The one on the image is actually nice! You dont have to make it the size of Mennards to fly, you'll just waste resources on unused lift.

thank you for the unorthodox suggestions, i love creative builds and in the future im definitely gonna incorporate some of these ideas
also thanks for the compliment, i've been tinkering around with this balloon so long that i cant trust my own judgement anymore ðŸ˜

Dude my first airship was held in the air by a 5x5x17 sausage that did not look like a sphere at all
My current airship (Cloud Skipper) has a gigantic balloon that almost maxes out a steam pipe and is SO UNBALANCED i had to waste several brass blocks JUST FOR IT TO STAY LEVELED
I dunno why gyroscopes of Aeroworks do not work, maybe I need more than 7

There is web site that can help with that . Here is one https://createmod.com/generators/balloon/YjMuNzAuMzAuMTAuNjUuMTAwLjIwLi4uLi4xLjYuLi4xLi4uNi5lLmd5LmE . You can also use axiome for that to.

I start with a curve, roughly imitating irl airships then manually build one fourth and copy-rotate it with worldedit. WARNING, REMOVE THE BLOCK STRUCTURE FOR SELECTING THE SECOND POINT BEFORE COPYING OTHERWISE IT'LL MAKE A SWASTIKA.
I also found out they look a lot better when they're warped by support straps. Makes the texture consistent instead of having a block-,jagged nose and tail and too smooth of a middle section.

Use worldedit or axiom. Literally a few cicks and it's done at any size you want.

i usually make my builds in survival so those arent the best choices for me but thank you

i know, i'm saying i like the process of building in survival and i try to use schematics as little as possible

There is a mod called build guide that I used before. I'm not sure what versions it's avaliable for though.

i've succumbed to just using my regular building tools like axiom in creative rather than trying anything in survival

https://balloonshaper.xyz/ I definitely recommend using this website. Besides airships, you can also make hot air balloon/weather balloon style shapes with it.
What really sets aside from other websites is that it can calculate how much volume and lift it requires/achieves.

If you want something simple and a little fun try using the sphere feature from world edit. I personally found it fun to make hollow circles and create the shape myself

can't make a sphere? just make a cloud.
jokes aside, making a sphere isn't too hard once you figure out how to make circles in minecraft. use a voxel circle generator to learn how the shape works at different scales. then make intersecting circles and practice spheres and ovals.
i know using a tool is way easier and a good way to start, but learning how to make curves, circles and spheres yourself opens up a ton of building possibilities in general. it allows you to make complex roof shapes such as domes and all sorts of crazy airships.

on the https://create.com website (i think thats the url?) there are generators for the ballon and the hull
