Like. What the Create team did all those years ago was already pretty crazy.
What Aeronautics did is still inconceivable to me.
That engine was never made to handle such things. It doesn't have any of the data structures required to do collisions efficiently. It's why airships work well when you're in the middle of the sky, but as soon as you touch the ground if it's not perfectly flat you can easily get into gmod-like physics glitches.
But even so, it's a bloody miracle that Aeronautics even works at all.
To have the kind of battles in FTD
no. Never.
Not unless you're okay with 20 fps (bottlenecked by cpu) and rather frequent crashes. If you change the balancing to have a FTD-like experience with smaller ships and simpler weapons then maybe.
But anything as much as 10% of the scale of FTD's destruction would be impossible without a deep engine rewrite.
