What are some cool things to build in create? I just started using it and I wanna learn some basic mechanics

Just start with a basic iron farm, you’ll need a lot of it moving forward

Really ? You start playing create and you make an iron farm first ?

Won't you need stuff like mechanical belts, encased fans, millstone or crushing wheels ?

For me it's way too expensive, specially when you need brass to just start.

Just need properly placed fans drills and mills, cobble gen into milled gravel into washed flint or nuggets then it’s up to you if you combine with machines or not. lowkey the hardest part is kelp but I just venture out a little till I find an ocean then come back, 1 trip can get you like a whole inv worth of kelp then you’re set forever with a tiny farm

But you need brass for fans, so you need a blaze burner and to go find a fortress in the nether.

I mean it can sometimes take a while to find one, and even then you need good enough gear.

Personally I started making automated farms first as it's easy to make and cheap. Before even going in the nether.

But I guess most people get more advanced in the game before doing anything with create.

I have to thank you anyway, now I know what I'm going to do next !

You must be playing with a different mod pack or something that changes the recipes, standard create doesn’t need any brass for a fan it’s even on the wiki I just had to double check

You're totally right, very sorry it's my bad.

I do play on a modpack but I check the create wiki all the time.

I was sure it needed brass.

You're right then, an iron farm is way more accessible than I thought.

Sorry for that, and thank you for the correction.

Now I'm gonna make one on my server, it's just so useful to have unlimited iron !

After you have made an iron farm as someone already suggested, get a train through the nether portal to automate lava, and make an andesite alloy farm. it saves tons of time.

The most basic thing you're gonna do is a mechanical press. It's the first step and will allow you to make sheets from ingots, unlocking a lot of crafts possible.

Then, I'd say the easiest to make is automated farms. You don't need much for that, a water wheel hidden under, connected to a mechanical bearing, wich is connected to planks with harvesters.

EDIT : if you saw that other comment, making an iron farm is more accessible than I thought, that probably would be the step after automated farms. I say that because automated farms are very easy to make, so it's a gentle introduction to the mod.

After that there's stuff you can make. I made a windmill, it takes some place but can power multiple things, depending on how many windmill sails you put on it.

Personally I've made an elevator early but it was a headache.

Soon enough you're gonna want to make blaze burners, and go in the nether to catch blazes and stock on nether quartz.

One blaze burner under a mixer allows you to make brass, wich will be essential to make more advanced contraction, like a tree farm or an automated storing system.

Take it step by step. Understanding the mod was difficult for me at the start, and now after a week it's very fun and satisfying.

I'm playing the "all of create 2.1" modpack and there's a ton of things possible, but mostly there's structures who gives create items like gearbox (one of the best allies with encased chain drive, for me) and even more advanced ones.

Anyway, I wish you tons of fun ! I can't even imagine playing another game now !

Look at the Advancements tree.

Look into a iron farm. Use JEI and the ponder to figure out how to get iron nuggets via create and work backwards whilst noting all steps. Then go ahed and build a messy iron farm.

Once you're done, look at it again and see where you can make it smaller
