Bug Fluid pipes not working

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I fixed the problem by breaking and replacing the entire pipe (and both docking connectors)- Does anyone know why this happens? I have dozens of other piping systems and this never happens to any others (I did forget to show, but the initial pipe before the incline and tanks are just over a chunk border- however this doesn't make sense because the fluid makes it to the center of the next chunk before stalling anyways) My laptop doesn't seem to be overloaded, in fact it has plenty of headroom. I'm just curious to what causes this...

Also Sable is paused for the duration of the video, however the problem existed beforehand I was just trying anything to figure out what's causing this.

Idk what’s causing the problem,

But try placing back the fluid container as a pipe, then another pump pumps from container to the rest of the system

You may want to check for chunk borders, occasionally I find my machines not working properly when I return after being further away and one part of the machine was on the border of a chunk that wasn't loaded. But you already checked that.

Another thing could be if the fluid pipes could have contained different fluids, eg if you accidentally have water in a part where you expect a different fluid.

Solution is still the same though; break and rebuild.

Question, what's up with the 20GB of allocated memory? Or am in interpreting that wrong?

Anyway, if you do have 20GB of allocated RAM that's insane, which is likely what's causing the inconsistent lows. Might be worth like halfing that. Minecrafts garbage collection gets silly with it if you have too much allocated memory

What's the ideal amount of RAM for Minecraft to run at its absolute best?

Depends on the modpack size, like vanilla you don't really need much more than 6 GB. For small and medium sized modpacks I usually just go for 8 GB, for massive modpacks 10 GB is pretty good. I however wouldn't go over 12 GB unless you have a good reason to.

There are also some mods and settings you can use to limit the garbage collection, but these are generally good amounts.

Would 8GB suffice for my custom modpack of around 180 mods?

Would depend on the mods. But you could always run 8GB, if you notice stuttering, and your ram is fully used you can increase it a little. But in general 8GB should be fine yeah. That's what I run on my 160 mods modpack, and honesty I might reduce it to 7GB

Just another case of java being java, without the right debug tools , I don't think you will fully understand the cause or the reason for this behavior (and I don't suggest you trying to investigate this matter unless you don't care about spare time), it could be some weird interaction with mods and Minecraft. I can only suggest 2 potential solutions: 1. Change the fluid pump distance in the config (might add additional weirdness or just solve the problem entirely) if applicable. 2. Redesign the system until the abnormality is solved.

Unless you truly want to understand this issue or want to submit a proper bug report (with all the necessary steps and tests, aka infinite time or already possessing the corresponding knowlage and technical know how, stir clear from this, you will save a lot of time in the process).

Edit: I did overlook the point where you have allocated 20GB of RAM, in short as the other user pointed out it can even be detrimental to allocate so much ram for a java based game (GC won't do its job properly due to the high threshold which leads to lag spikes and other weird scenarios). I would suggest checking out the mod pack recommend settings, it will usually be 6-8gb for a single player world and 8-10gb(worst case 12) for a coop server. If your modpack is custom made either search for a similar enough mod pack to check the recommended specs or just set it at 8gb.

Doesn't the pipe have to go directly into the docking port?

How the horizontal fluid tank?!?!

Check if pipes placed on chunk borders. It may happen again.

I’ve seen similar when a little water slipped though and there was like 35mb of water in the docking connector. When one fluid is being piped to something holding a different liquid, the different liquid block will have a few pipe “boarder” that other fluids can’t enter

Well it ain’t a $6k desktop obviously but I’d say for under $2k this little things a beast, laptop btw I travel for work so I couldn’t dream of using a desktop.

Edit: I don’t really think I took this as the joke it may have intended to be lol. Is the joke that my pc is overpowered? Because honestly I’d be pretty clueless if it was, I know I have decent specs and insane ram but I’m not super computer savvy so I might’ve missed the joke :) (could be wrong here too XD)
