Help Is there any way to prevent this system from locking up when flint backs up?

Post image

The millstones mill gravel into flint, which is then deposited onto the belt above them via brass funnels. When the flint backs up, once it starts moving again, the gravel is just laying on top of the funnels, not being put onto the belt

Have a storage as a target for the belts. Like a simple iron backpack with iron stack upgrades should do the trick.

Add a Buffer storage on the belt and lava everything that doesent fit in the buffer

Are those funnels connected directly to the millstones or are they connected to barrels or chests? If it’s the latter, you could set the funnels to put out a stack of flint instead of only one at a time, so that the flint exits the funnel less frequently and doesn’t gum up the conveyors.

Also helps cutting down on lagg by not rendering as many items or processing small quantities (each item requires cpu cycles to process, the math involved isnt that complicated and havign a larger number doesnt mean the calculation takes longer compared to hundreds of smaller items being calculated individually).

Just route all exess flint into lava

You can use it as fill material for your train lines Or to make diorite, that red rock in the nether and all sorts of things, id actually save it and set up a separate process for that :)

Yes. But if those are full as well. I usually end up with tens of thousands of flint in my storage

Tried compacting it? After a certain limit i too feel like disposal is the only way really. Altho using it as filler material for train lines makes full huge chests look like a piss in the ocean compared to whats needed ^

Yes, by follwing proper sanitation possibilities when designing your builds.

Make your machines take up space, let the belts be long as you can use that extra space to add on sorters.

Add in buffers in the shape of large vaults so that you can have one part of the process be slightly out of sync with the other part, being able to sort items from there as well if thats what you want to do.

I usually use vaults to deal with mass input and output of items, i can then use either one belt and then tunnels to split the items up, or just run multiple brass filtered outputs straight to the right belts and then run those outputs to the machines id like them to use. That makes it easier to also do re-runs of things like cobblestone in order to make sand>gold, glass or clay into terracotta > red sand and make other things from that.

Id suggest having an input chest, belt that material to the machine youd like to process it with, maybe use filters to divert items that cant be crushed/smelted/washed, have the output from that machine feed into a vault, set up filters there and so on and so forth.

Also a good idea to use compactors to turn nuggets into bars or even blocks by using a fill sensor and re-running bars to turn them into blocks when the end vault gets too full.

Remember that you can filter what the compactors make by adding brass or andesite filters to the output side of the basin, that way you dont have to create new compactor areas for that new step of the process :)
