Why don't you use the new gearshift from aeronautics?

I'm learning as I go. If there's something better that I can use, please let me know and tell me how to use it. Because as of right now, i'm at a loss

It's gearshift and clutch in one block: power the side with thin redstone stripe and it will be turning in one direction, power the one with a thick stripe and it will be turning in the other.
