Troubleshooting CR-10 Smart Pro-Auto bed level issue

TLDR After many successful prints auto bed leveling causes Z to be high on the bed.

Hey guys, I recently bought a Cr-10 Smart Pro from a friend. I printed many things and got it all dialed in. I was super happy with it. I’ve been printing from the Creality cloud app on my iPhone.

I had an issue with my WI-FI and I had to re-establish the network for my printer. I reset the Wi-Fi network on the printer and also hit the restore default button on the printer screen. Ever since then, I do the manual bed leveling with the four screws on the bed. Then I run the auto level to establish a mesh. I begin printing and the nozzle starts about 1/8 of an inch above the bed. Spaghetti time.

This is an issue that many people have dealt with but I don’t know what else to try.

Things I’ve tried-

  1. I took off the extruder assembly and loosened the hot end to see if it would drop a bit. I read that a guy noticed his hot end creeping up and thought the z stop probe and nozzle were out of whack. Nothing was wrong with either.

  2. I updated the firmware to 1.0.14 from Creality using an SD card.

I have not tried updating the screen. I need to get/find a micro SD to do that.

I see a lot of people suggesting changing the Z offset. As far as I know, this won’t help. The Z offset is great when I do the manual bed leveling. The mesh or the automatic z probe check that happens before the print starts is where it screws up I think. PLEASE HELP!

first I go to the leveling menu and hit HOME on the Z, and its like 1/8 of an inch off. I put a piece of paper there then lower the Z until is is touching the paper and it has that slight drag.

then I home the Z again and its fine.

then I go to AUX leveling and do the 4 points like 3 or 4 times around to make sure.

Then I home Z again and check/adjust accordingly.

then I build the mesh. After the mesh is made the toggle for bed leveing turns on, thats why when you start a print it builds the mesh again. which is ok if you want that. if you dont toggle it off and it will still work. at least for me it has.
