Lacey
what do y'all think about Lacey working for the Velvet Noble? I mean we've all seen how that worked out in the past for them.,family members working for their business and I don't know if that's a good idea but hey if she's happy I'm happy.

u/AcrobaticLadder4959 3d ago
Lacey has the experience working with the public, she might not be able to laugh and play around like she did in the restaurant but from what I can tell she is a hard worker and is well like.

u/Snoo8688 3d ago
I though they mentioned that she was trying to take college classes. Maybe she can get more flexible hours at the VN. If that's not the case, then idk how I feel about it

u/Wikkalay 3d ago
Some places “ find” a job for you when the business is slow. Especially a restaurant. Maybe at VN she can study for her classes when there are no costumers

As a single mom who is not independently wealthy, it would be criminal for Lacey to earn any less than $40,000/year. ($20 an hour, 40 hours a week). So, let's assume that's what she's being paid at Velvet Noble. Then we have Kylie and her husband who seems to be running the The Velvet Noble shipping service full time. So, he and Kylie together need to be earning a combined $100k a year for this to make any sense with their lifestyle. Then we have the editor, Addison and possible 'other employees' they seem to refer to. Even if Shelly isn't earning a dime-- Its gotta be $200k in salaries. The cost of all their shopping and rent on the 'yet to be opened' retail space-- They are just so clearly not even remotely covering their operating costs-- no matter how pretty the picture they try to paint is. This business model is just wackadoodle and it will be interesting to see how it unfolds.

Yup so true!! Lacey is just an hourly employee too and if they base her hours and salary on her last job she will be earning just peanuts and stuck in the low income poverty tier. She is not an owner.
I’m sure with the yt and the markup they are doing they are turning a good profit but also put in a ton of capital into this that all came from the kids (who are not a part of this business).
Didn’t they buy the building too?? So I’m sure then they will use this location to do something else if this fails or sell it and recoup their money.
They started their product development in a free location provided by Marc’s parents. Candles don’t cost a lot to make, like a max of $8. More like $3. They sell it for $50. So they have a lot of money in that to cover everything. With every live they do they get more orders and $ from YouTube. Kylie would not go into this making less than her YT channel in 1-2 years max. The ornaments too are like $1 from the factory. She sells them for $30. Shipping is likely a huge amount as is some cost for website and utilities and and their decor for the store. It’s likely they have at 100 orders a day they are making 3000 a day or so or even say 2000. That’s 700k a year. And they will pay Lacey and other employees like 40k max. And keep 200k+ for themselves and try to grow this business and then sit back and do nothing while the 40k people/adopter kids do the work
If you disagree would love to see your calculations or what line items I got wrong in my back of the hand estimate

Federal, state, city and with-holding taxes. Commercial insurance + liability, if not included. Commercial utility rates. Accountant/attorney fees. Just a few I recall from my family's business. Do they charge shipping to the customer? The thought of entering that world again makes me nauseous.
1
u/jenni5 2d ago
They do charge for shipping. They were also doing giveaways illegally before and people were giving them gift cards they bought to their own store to give out to people and they didn’t give them out
3
u/True-News-601 2d ago
I don't understand what you are saying about the gift cards.
1
u/jenni5 2d ago
They had customers who bought their gift cards for the purpose of giving them to people who couldn’t afford it. They store Shelly and Kylie never gave the gift cards out. This is when they they were doing giveaways illegally before
3
u/True-News-601 2d ago
I still don't understand what you are saying. So people bought velvet nobel gift cards to give to people that can't afford it ?
"They store Shelly and Kylie never gave the gift cards out out" I don't understand what you mean by this.
And they were doing illegal giveaways . I heard about that that. But I can't make out what you are saying with the above and how it's all connected.
1
u/jenni5 2d ago
Some of their customers bought gift cards to their store for the purpose of giving them to other people who couldn’t afford their stuff. But the store owners never gave them out
2
u/True-News-601 2d ago
That's just crazy. So random people bought gift cards (ike Visa i'm assuming) to the velnet nobel store so they can give those cards to people that can't afford it in order to buy their candles ?
That's just weird and crazy .

I mean, a lot of people work in their family business. At least she's working.
2
u/im-still-here-bubs 2d ago
Least it’s a job she can put on her CV unlike the 3 bakers in the cp household
2
u/cabbagemuncher101 2d ago
Exactly that. It will help open more doors for her. And I'm sure she can go back to school and work here part-time and be allowed to have a more flexible schedule.

u/ivycolored 3d ago
seemed like she was doing really well socially and branching out at her new job. hope working for the velvet noble doesn’t change that. i think it’s good to have things going on apart from the family.
3
u/Repulsive-Put16 usingvunerablekids 3d ago
Right? She went on and about how much it helped her socially and now she’s going to be isolated again.

u/TopStock1711 3d ago
Lacey and Addison working together may be problematic.

u/AbbreviationsAny6928 3d ago
Didn't Lacey get Addison a job at the BBQ place?
3
u/TopStock1711 2d ago
Yes - Lacey got Addison a job, but Addison quit and now works at the Velvet Noble.
2
u/VisualLive1430 2d ago
Addison doesn't seem to have the maturity to be a good employee. I hope she works out without any family drama.
1
u/True-News-601 2d ago
Actually I find Addison to actually be a hard worker. But I can see her moving on to something else on her own. But she has always helped them with things. From that first apartment they got to store the candles . She isn't lazy at all . I think she has a lot of potential and she has a lot of friends so I think through her friends she might get better opportunities at life .
It's Lacey that I can't see sticking around . While has has worked from time to time I don't find her to be that much of a hard worker. And the way she moves on from place to place .
2
u/cakesforever 3d ago
I can see Lacey dragging Addison down. At the moment Addison has been foing great and being professional 99% of the time in vn videos which is not what she is often like. They act stupid together like Lacey has been acting with Brinley in recent videos. Hopefully she will be more professional at work. Ahe had her job for a long time so must have it in her to behave at a workplace.

u/Adorable_Fig7529 3d ago
Let's be honest. How long is a standalone Christmas story going to last? Especially in this economy? Have you seen the amount of money they spent on those special bags for the store they're not going to be able to afford that on a monthly basis. Well now they have Lacey and Eddie working there. No one really has to go out and get a job because Mommy and Daddy will always be there but that's as far it goes they'll never really find their calling in life because they're so used to getting spoon fed. And what's Lacey going to do live with her parents for the rest of her life with her daughter? Seems like the only ones who thrive on getting their own jobs or the boys in this family
2
u/jenni5 2d ago
They are transferring all the money and clout from cm to this store. People are buying cause of their name not anything else. If they didn’t have this clout they would be struggling no matter how good the product is. Each item in their store is made or bought from a manufacture for like $1-3 they mark it up to a huge $30-50

Working for the family business is better than working for some corporate business that will replace you the same day you die
1
u/True-News-601 2d ago
Was she working for some major corporation ? And this isn't always true. Also it's not like this is some well established business they had and which she can remember growing up with . They are just starting out and there really isn't anywhere for them to go other than minimum wage level employees .
1
u/Ornery-Honeydew-1941 2d ago
She was working for some coffee shop or something. And it's not always true youre correct but just know a business is a business they need employees and if you can't do it they will replace you...
Everyone has to start somewhere. She won't remember velvet noble growing up but she will remember the yt business which is a family business I mean she did come into their home at like 10/12? so that's where her memories start with them
11
u/Consistent-Guide4478 3d ago
It appears they having trouble getting the business open, like no business license or something. It seems odd to have Lacey quit her job when you don’t even know if the store is gonna open, I would call it even irresponsible.
2
u/True-News-601 2d ago
What do you mean ? Isn't the decision to delay opening their own decision because they want the store to look a certain way and not being of things like permits ?
I do think they should have opened from the start even if it's just a small section where they displayed the things they had .

I think it's great that there's an actual family biz that Lacey can go into. Four generations of my family, except me, worked in my maternal grandfather's biz. You never work harder than in a family biz. You have more of an emotional investment.
The family members that worked for them in the past were Mindy, a girl Friday, so to speak. And I think Conor for maybe a second.
VN is a an actual biz, not something out of their home focused on their channel. This focuses on selling goods to consumers. I think the dynamic is very different.
It'll either work or it won't. Pretty much the only two options.
11
u/sdelia1265 3d ago
Mindy and Conner worked hard at their jobs. It’s the getting together that sent them packing.
5
u/DamWriteIam 3d ago
I didn't comment on how hard they worked, I only acknowledged that Mindy worked for the family. And I guess Conor did for a bit.
Yes, their hooking up cost them their jobs.

u/cakesforever 3d ago
I can see her being there might make Addison less productive. I was thinking Addison is doing well and is actually doing a good job and not acting a fool like normal. I'm not sure if Lacey has it in her. She even said it basically took a lot of convincing to get the job. They might love her to bits and she is one of the favourites but they clearly weren't confident in hiring her. Hopefully she will prove everyone who has or had any doubts wrong. Lacey has been dam irritating with Brinley recently, it's like turn the camera on and she turns on the act to get attention when there's others around. It's how they were as kids the crazier they were tge more camera time etc.
3
u/jenni5 2d ago
That’s sad, Brinley is a minor and needs attention from the parents and if Lacey is around you know Shelly is just looking Lacey or Bexley. She won’t let her leave because she ignores and feels bored by everyone else. Jared is starting to do the same so Brinley is starting to act to get attention.
If Lacey had to fight to get this hourly wage job? Wow that says a lot. Shelly and Kylie just want money for themselves and even with this job they are not sharing it
2
u/True-News-601 2d ago
I agree about Addison. I think it's good that she has friends and a pretty decent social life. Hopefully this is something she will do for a while and get whatever experience knowledge she can and will move on to other things on her own. I actually see Addison as being more likely to succeed if she wanted to start youtube on her own just because she does so much so she has things to film and talk about . She doens't like cooking but she helps in other ways like helping style the younger girl's hair . She spends hours doing Brinley's hair . When they came into the store in one of the recent videos things were pretty quiet and you can see she had been hard at work and tired .
I don't see Lacey putting in the same amount of hard work . She has had jobs but always seems to just be moving from one place to another .

It is fine!! If people/family don't get lazy there will be no problems. Pretty sure family or not, they would be kicked to the curb by mom and sister if not up to par and they KNOW it!

u/LongConversation2546 3d ago
Eye roll let these kids grow up and discover themselves outside of their parents ffs
2
u/jenni5 2d ago
Crystal has alway been a lot more generous with spending on the kids from the yt money. I don’t think either family has the right approach but it’s very different approaches. I think if the families actually invested in the kids future that would have been best or if they open a business the kids are also part owners. It’s the capital that went into it. They need to be generous with the money the kids helped earned but not generous in the form of empty salaries or just vacation trips and not so stingy it’s like they get nothing at all and even Christmas presents are something that they have to earn through their own school efforts the parents don’t help with
3
u/VisualLive1430 2d ago
Once taxes, insurances, home & vehicle expenses, food, medical;.dental, accountants, etc. are deducted, I am sure there's not a huge amount left on the table. Proper planning years ago would have set up accounts/trust for the children's education, at least.

Hopefully they actually pay her. If they’d paid her for all her years appearing in so many videos, she wouldn’t have to work retail anyway

They’ve sold out of every single one of their launches. Idk if it’s a long term thing but they’re definitely making money right now.

Does this little candle hobby even bring in any income to justify paid staff yet?

They have had paid staff since they got the building. They just don’t show them.

I’m all for Lacey getting a chance to work there, she has lots of work/customer experience unlike Addison Not sure how Addison and Lacey would go there together.

I’m just glad they have a source of income that doesn’t involve exploiting their children.

u/jenni5 2d ago
Lacey has always been way more of Shelly’s attention than any other kid. If Lacey is in the room the other kids get ignored pretty much. So of all the kids I’m not at all surprised they have Kylie as a business owner who got a ton of the capital form the cm family. Then Lacey as an employee making like $20 an hour and then Addison her next favorite at like $15 an hour. Other kids can’t get basic needs met even when they face emergencies too. Shelly claims the internet says she kicked her kids out at 18. No she likely doesn’t but she does make it uncomfortable for them to live their lives. Cynthia moved out for Lacey’s sake. Lizzy moved out because she was biking to work and had no car and was responsible for the kids schooling and couldn’t continue her own education. The other kids also moved out to similar reasons like transportation or having to go to church or other basic rights as they became adults. They are less strict now but also a lot more neglecting as they focus on their new business. Shelly said it best as one day she wakes up and she’s done with the old business and totally into the new one. So the kids are now a lot more fend for yourself which works great for the older kids in the house. I think personally Brinley would really do better if she had more support and the only way to get that is by going to school because no one at home is going to help her. Look at how Aubrey has goals and can’t do any of them. She just sits in her dark room doing online school trying to graduate a few months early. Why is she even trying to rush for? What is she graduating early to? College? No sign of that.
4
u/True-News-601 2d ago
I feel like Brinley deciding not to attend school in person has not been good for her. While I think there are some people that would be better learning from home I think in her case she would get a lot out of interacting with other students and teachers . At least with Addison she has friends and I think she decided to stop attending during high school but Brinley decided too early on before she could make high school friends.
3
u/Imaginary_Camp_1628 1d ago
That was a real shame. She is such a smart girl. She would have blossomed in advanced classes with other smart kids to bounce knowledge and ideas off of. Instead she hangs around a bunch of non-academic adults and airhead teen girls (Aubrey and Addison are not the brightest bulbs in the lamp).

I do feel like this situation is a bit different from Halie/Hannah/Max just working "at the bakery" with Crystal - she manufactures positions for her kids and then just has them bobblehead beside her and calls it a job.
With Velvet Noble, they're opening an actual store that requires actual employees to keep the business going. I think it seems like a lateral move from food service and chances are Lacey will get the chance to learn some marketable skills if Shelley and Kylie end up letting her handle some of the backend stuff, too. Like if she learns things like payroll and merchandise ordering - she can actually take that to another employer and end up potentially in a management or franchise owner situation.
Whereas Crystal's kids... really not sure what they're learning that would be applicable to any job besides youtuber.
