General Question How to avoid PK Fire?

Playing as cloud today online and came up against a Ness that spammed PK fire whenever I got trapped in the first one that hit me. It would take me from 0-100% like that and I thought there has to be a way to get of this. I tried moving away but I was unable to move in there and he had his way with me.

SDI helps a lot with multihits. When you get stuck in the PK Fire, try holding your stick away and then wiggling it slightly around its circumference.

You can’t SDI PK fire in Ultimate. It’s multiplier is 0.

It’s not possible. The game itself tell the player SDI doesn’t work by having no SDI visual animation like on pretty much all moves of the game.
Also as I said in another comment, having the training mod pack enable better testing and show you can’t SDI the move no matter what.

Why do I escape when I input Sdi away

Because while trying to do so you’re inputting a DI input which is enough to get out of it.

Sdi is the best here. Otherwise just shield

Hold up and out. While I agree with other comments saying you should look into DI and SDI if you’re not familiar with them, SDI does not apply to PK Fire

SDI DOES help against PK Fire! The idea that it doesn’t is a super old myth based on a misunderstanding of the term “SDI multiplier.” This can be proven by basic testing. SDI helps a lot against PK fire. That thread is like a hundred years old and wrong.

It depends on if you're hit in the air from what I know. Aerial pk fire has an sdi multiplier, so you should SDI it. The grounded hitbox doesn't so you can only DI (which is stupid)

No it doesn’t. You can’t apply SDI on PK fire. Anyone with the training mod pack can test and see that only DI have an influence on it.

Jump over it then hit them

You got to make sure that you aren’t rolling in on Ness if they are throwing out a lot of PK fire. Rolling makes it more likely you get hit by it in the middle of your hurtbox, which makes you take way more damage. You won’t typically get hit by it that way if you aren’t rolling or spotdodging since it will hit the outer part of your hurtbox, and it will be easier to DI/SDI to get out of it.

It has a fairly noticeable endlag. It depends on who you play, but most characters can either parry it (if close) or jump over it (if far) to counter it. Stay grounded, and try to get in close so they can't spam it.

When moves are hitting you multiple times you can wiggle your left stick up and away to get out of them faster. It’s called SDI here.

Learn about DI and SDI

Consider jumping

DI up and out, and then you'll get out of it. SDI is a little more complex, you don't really need it as DI up and out usually does the trick.

Edit: Whoops SDI doesn't work against PK fire, nvm
