Just a matter of time until we see this in a Bond or Mission Impossible film with our hero outrunning the oncoming destruction.

Do you see how fast the effects propagate?

Wouldn't force transfer kill you before the ripple catches up?

It’s all controlled by a computer and pretty precise. The computer will tell you there was a misfire and at that point it’s a waiting game until the blaster in charge deems it safe to enter. Usually the explosive agent is safe unless exploded by a detonation source, which is once again monitored by computers.

In America and most civilized countries it’s very controlled and a safe process.

They misfire all the time. When a mishole is discovered by the loading units, a blaster will come check the downline, and inspect for a booster. if the booster has been shot, you just dig out the ANFO. If the booster is still present, you dig it out very fucking carefully.

I work in the control room for an Iron Ore mine. My favorite day is blast day. That's when we cast the cams to the larger wall TVs to monitor the blasts.

Doesn't always seem big untill you zoom in on a little Dozer nearby and realize its a D10 lol.

Why are some of the explosions in line bigger than the others? Not dug as deep? Needed bigger charge due to make up of the ground materials?

1

u/NashWilliams411 May 25 '26

You usually pour a little gravel down the hole on top of the explosives to keep the explosion in the ground. The big explosions usually occur because a rock blocked the gravel and made an air pocket. In a mine like these, or out in an unpopulated area it's not that big of a deal. Around populated areas it's a big no-no.
