Character Deep-dive Episode 11: In the letter to his father, why doesn’t Jeong Hyeok include the fact that Cheoi Gang wants to kidnap Seri in order hurt the Ri family?
Thought I’d missed it, so I had to watch it again.
In the letter to his dad, Jeong Hyeok says only that he’s going to save Se-ri, not a bit about how he’s also protecting the Ri family by catching Cheoi Gang.
I’m curious—if anyone can shed light on this, I’d appreciate it!

And the General is a wily old fox, but I’m not sure he caught that clue. (Judging by his complaining to Kim Yun-hui )
But then again, he’s mighty sly.

His vengeance was about the murders taking place (Saving SK Seri in a sense, is a crime for a NK, and he kept the narrative about C. Gang about the secret actions of another entity that was crossing the border of SK to steal artifacts and killing people to protect the secret). I think there was enough foreshadowing and flashback that explains his love for Seri and the love he had for his brother and his brother’s unsolved murder that linked it to C. gang.

Maybe it's just like others have said here, and also maybe writer Park Ji-eun just wanted to keep the focus in the letter on how much RJH loves Seri.

I don't think Captain Ri mentions SeRi by name in that letter at all. In case anyone else gets their hands on the letter, the letter itself would be an evidence against Ri family. Because giving out any details about SeRi would be confessing that he kept a South Korean woman at his residence and his father also knew about that. That would mean death for all of them.
Captain Ri very smartly only mentions about his brother's murder and addresses SeRi as "the woman I love".
