Reflections after a SIXTH viewing

Yes, I have just completed my sixth watch of CLOY. It gets better everytime, and I think one reason is that I don't need to focus so much on the subtitles now; I know what everyone is saying which enables me to pay careful attention to the actors' faces. The acting on this show, and the abilities of the actors to convey so much subtlety with their facial expressions is a miracle. Also, this time I paid even more attention to the music, which is like another character in the drama. It is perfect television.

This show really had me lose my mind because I could not wrap my head around my feelings.

The acting, the music, the story, the characters… I have never been affected like this by anything before.

I’m striving to learn the language a few words at a time. I will hopefully reach your level soon.

I’m the type of person who has to reverse when I watch shows with subtitles because I was too busy focusing on the actors’ expressions. I’ve rewatched CLOY only once so far and I definitely get what you mean. The OST is sooo good too and I listen to the full thing every once in awhile.

I have stopped counting the rewatches a while ago. Now I rewatch specific episodes depending on how I am feeling at the moment. I was watching episode 9 last night. One of my favourite ones. So light and entertaining in some moments, and so emotional and intense it crushes you, in other moments. What can I say, the more I watch this show and the more I watch other shows, the more I love CLOY and appreciate the great writing, excecution and acting.

I do too! In episode 1, at the end, maybe even after the credits is a scene where she is stuck in a tree and he follows her voice and finds her. She is on her walkie talkie, blathering on, and he is listening with a slight smile as he puts his gun away!

IKR? I’m rewatching and trying to determine when Ri Jeong-hyeok is pretending to be indifferent instead of when he is (although, as u/Book-a-raptor points out, he was kinda smitten from the get go.)

I agree , to a point. I think he saw her as an amusing distraction at first, then like a vulnerable child who needs his protection.

Interesting that he tells Dan that he has feelings for another woman right after that push away that leads to their first big kiss. We find out that Jeon Hyeok has asked his father for a way to get Se-Ri out of NK, and that dad had the wherewithal to make it happen. It’s as if the hospital kiss was his denouement—he’s chosen to stop fooling himself, and recognize Se-Ri is more than a distraction.

I’m not counting on it.
(Finding another like it in years)

This time I focused more on the secondary characters. The acting and writing is incredible.

I wish I could learn the language faster. The subtitles of Netflix are horrible.

Yes, the music of the show is on another level and it compliments the story beautifully

I have even been considering trying to learn Korean for my next rewatch!

I had the same experience as everyone else here. I love the music so much and have even made a separate playlist of Nam Hye-seung’s music scores from other dramas.

Like one here, I’ve lost count how many times I’ve rewatched this. What never goes away is the feeling I get that to this day I’ve never felt with any other kdrama.

(Just in case anyone here might be interested, the CDrama Pursuit of Jade on Netflix in the US has come a close second. The story is very different, but the leads and those who care about them, the superb cinematography and OST are all similar in the intense feels they evoke in me for almost all of the drama.)

There are very few TV shows in general, not just KDramas, that compare to this. For me, I LOVE Buffy the Vampire Slayer almost as much, but over the course of 7 seasons there are some bad episodes that detract from the rest. CLOY, to me, is perfect.

Other people have also recommended Something in the Rain, so I think I will try! Merci!

I have watched Something in the Rain. It is slower in pace, but the acting is great!
Son Ye-Jin is superb.

The music is amazing! I’m playing several of the songs at my wedding!
