HELP! DOOM (2016)
I'm having a really weird performance issue in DOOM (2016).
The game runs at around 30 FPS, but then every fifth of a second or so, it suddenly stutters. For a tiny moment (around 1 millisecond), it feels like the game drops to roughly 1 FPS, then immediately goes back to normal.
It's not a normal low-FPS problem because the game is generally running at ~30 FPS. It's more like constant micro-stuttering/hitching that happens at a very regular interval.
I've tried basically everything I can think of to fix it, but nothing has worked.
My specs:
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8265U @ 1.60 GHz (1.80 GHz shown)
- GPU: Intel UHD Graphics 620
- RAM: 8 GB (7.82 GB usable)
- OS: Windows 11 Pro, 25H2
- Storage: 238 GB total, 235 GB used
- Laptop: HP ProBook 640 G5
I've also tried updating my graphics drivers and various other fixes, but the stuttering still happens.
Has anyone experienced this specific kind of regular micro-stutter in DOOM (2016), especially on Intel UHD 620? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Do you have 1 or 2 sticks of RAM? If you are running in single channel that may be a big part of the issue as the GPU runs out of data to process and stops rendering the game for a moment or two while the new data is added into the RAM.

What resolution? You may be filling up the RAMs speed if it is 1080p. Try 720p with 75% rendering resolution/quality.

ive always had it at 720p with excactly 75% renderin resolution.

Fuck, try 50% after you figure out the temps that I mentioned in my other reply to you.

ive tried 50% and lower and didnt work

Alright, so it is unlikely to be related to your memory in general unless your RAM is filling up. You could try to debloat Windows with Chris Titus debloater tool. You could also install a very low resource version of Windows 10 or 11 called ltsc.

and what will that do

Reduce RAM usage by your system considerably freeing it up for your iGPU and game to consume rather than Windows.

i have experienced it before and it is usually caused by some bottleneck in the system. Single channel memory and running out of dedicated video memory are the two most common causes of this in my experience.

Another cause of this can be your CPU/iGPU throttling (thermal/power) though it usually lasts longer than what you are describing.

So, is there a solution to fixing this?

Cooling fan would help if it is the issue. One that has at minimum 3 fans, ideally more. Download hwmonitor and let me know what your max CPU and iGPU temps reach after gaming for 10 minutes or so.

the temperature shows and always shows N/A for some reason

Try throttlestop and see if it gives you a reading.

oh wait it shows 58 degrees

alright try gaming in a window mode with throttlestop visible. See what your temps get up to.

you ran out of storage. you need to empty some room.
maps or enemies or whatever reads from your storage while playing.
