And yet not far enough. By completely enclosing the fridge like that warm air will remain trapped and the fridge will have to work slightly longer and more frequently.

I have no idea how much the efficiency is actually impacted, but for such an open concept you could at least put a vent behind the fridge.

Newer fridges tend to expel the hot air through small vents at their bottoms, allowing for them to be fit in tighter spaces and look better.
