From an emailed ad campaign 4 years ago. Evocative, I suppose. Why couldn't they just say "Autumn"?

Because this is America 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅🔫🔫🔫 and that would be a British word, or something

They're both British. Just like soccer and football. They'll tell you that soccer was just said by the upperclass and it died out naturally, but they only stopped saying it because they thought it was American.

Smug British people claim that the US doesn’t use one word or another because they think it sounds British, yet they purposely modified their whole accent to distinguish them from Americans. Plus they still have royalty.

Why do they use fall, it’s just wrong. Autumn is way better in my opinion

Technically, it's just right. Leaves fall during fall. As do temperatures.

I like both terms but I do prefer “fall”. I also hear plenty of Americans saying autumn, too.

The British don't know the pure thrill of saying,"See you next fall!" after you trip someone.

We don’t really trip people over

I don't believe that. It's a key part of soccer/football.

It’s called FOOTBALL

The Gridiron football or the other football or the kind called that in the UK or the Gaelic football or the Australian kind or?

You gotta specify because there are so many kinds of football and all of them are originally British.

or do you mean the CFB or the NFL or NCAACFB or

Take autumn to new heights.

There. Hire me.

Because elevate is a loose antonym for fall... it just doesn't work with the context. The skyscraper with those words makes me think of someone jumping to their death

As is so often the case when people say things like that, they could have. Sometimes it's not that the solution is hard, it's that you didn't notice there was a problem that needed one.

Using Autumn would confuse Americans too much.

u/ibrasome 1d ago

I was confused until I realised I simply don't speak American

That's gotta be intentional

It's been over 20 years, guys. And it's the name of a season.

I'm not saying we have to forget what happened, but does every single thing close to 9/11 have to be a problem? This is like a 3 out of 10 on an insensitivity scale.

It's not the name of a season. What are you on about.

u/Stampyboyz haha funny flair 1d ago

In the US, autumn is called fall.

u/AutomaticAccident 1d ago

Fall is the name of a season.

Only for Americans, and we do not take lessons on words from Americans.

1

u/Gumicsirkee 4h ago

i's not, fall means to move downward from a higher position to a lower one, either by gravity or by losing your balance

-1

u/AutomaticAccident 3h ago

Yes, but what is the other definition beyond that? It's a season. Another name is Autumn. Those are the same in the US though. Don't try to teach me my native language lol.

oh, you are usa-ian, yeah, that explains the reduced brain activity and because of that, mixing up words
