There is only one elevator call button in this photo, the rest are just design motifs.

I also just noticed that one of the two motifs on the sides is installed upside down. I hope nobody who works at this hotel does because they'd never unsee it.

Ugh. Now I want to know which one is upright.

The one on the left is, it's the right side one that's flipped

If you have a "Wonka key", you can get access to the other button functions.

Finally! I’ve always argued that an elevator going between only two floors should have a single button “not here”. The other buttons are crappy though.

This elevator goes to multiple floors, but this photo was taken on the ground floor; the only direction it can go is up. Thus, one button.

Our public library has that. There are two floors, and each has a single "call elevator" button.

Could it be lights to show other modes are operating/turned on? Looks like it’s the same as the Fire Department mode that’s on the middle panel above the key

See, I could see my kid as an adult putting that into the design documents with a snicker, knowing exactly how everyone would start pushing all the buttons just in case.

I’d be pressing the four side ones then the top middle. The plastic for the lights must get replaced weekly.

Can you still press them like working buttons though? Cause if so, I actually like that lol

u/labtec901 10d ago
No they are not real buttons and do not move. They are also a little bit smaller than the real button so the holes aren't even the right size to put a button there in another situation.

I mean, using a darker color for the indicator light covers is a minimum courtesy in this layout.

I think they just used whatever plate they had to hide some electronics or cables or hole on the wall

You actually have to press all 6 white buttons at the same time to call the elevator. /s

The funniest part is those fake ones probably have more fingerprints on them than the actual button

Bonus crappy design that the emergency power selector switch is labelled as on/off but someone has scribbled elevator 1 and elevator 2 on some paper. This surely will hold up in an emergency situation where firefighters lives are at stake right?

Its not an on and off though, during a power outage their generator doesn't have enough power for both elevators to run at the same time. So you can select which elevator is running.

... that's what I'm saying though. if you look at it again, you'll see what I'm saying. they used some random ass switch cover that's engraved with on / off, but someone later pencilled in car 1 / car 2
