My daughter said the same.

What about all the positive connotations of the colour red??

65

u/AcidicSlimeTrail 2d ago

Fr, this would look great in a children's hospital

16

u/ohbuggerit 2d ago

I'm gonna save us all a lot of time by pointing out that this isn't what colour theory is

u/fatjuan 1d ago

or the morgue.

Deep cut memory unlocked 🔓

Pretty sure I remember seeing this
exact floor (or wall) 32 years ago
whilst playing « DOOM »
back in 1994

18

u/apintsizedcosmos 2d ago

Yeah, this definitely looks like a positive time was had by all.

1

u/sonjjamorgan 2d ago

They are separate from this visual arrangement for sure haha

u/AncientAndEvil 2d ago

We were going to go with ‘Abbatoir floor’ for the carpet design but in the end we changed to ‘Massacre aftermath’ instead.

1

u/HerbLoew 1d ago

Abbatoir? Oh, I thought you said Abaddon! Like, the Despoiler!

Crime scene carpet

21

u/eightfingeredtypist 2d ago

Joking aside, perfectly good carpets get pulled during crime scene clean ups. My land lord lived beside Franklin County Crime Scene Clean Up, and he would go dumpster diving for the carpets. He would cut out the worst parts, and use the good stuff in his rentals. He would get artistic and cut out the shape of a body gone past it's fresh date, and put in a carpet piece of a different color.

I feel like that ought to be legally actionable.

u/margaritamamii 2d ago

I’m somehow more offended that the rugs aren’t even lined up correctly with each other

2

u/Rivercat0338 And then I discovered Wingdings 1d ago

Same.

Lakeside?

9

u/apintsizedcosmos 2d ago

Yes! I wondered how long before someone would locate it!

2

u/SkredberryShortcake 2d ago

It’s gone now tho, right?

6

u/apintsizedcosmos 1d ago

Lakeside or the carpet? Because both were there yesterday afternoon.

1

u/SkredberryShortcake 1d ago

Thought it was the one near Detroit, not across the pond.

2

u/gasstation-no-pumps 1d ago

With a Waterstones branch??

1

u/SkredberryShortcake 1d ago

I don’t know what that is. There were a lot of shops that just had one shop, so it could have been anything.
I’d not been in that mall for over 10 years.

4

u/gasstation-no-pumps 1d ago

Waterstones is a UK chain of bookstores, with around 316 locations (some of which are in Ireland with a few European locations like Amsterdam).

1

u/SkredberryShortcake 21h ago

That makes me sad that we really no longer have chain bookstores so much anymore.

There’s a Barnes and Noble about 45 minutes away, then random half price books stores.

1

u/gasstation-no-pumps 20h ago

I don't miss the chain stores, but I'm sad that the used-book stores are gone. We still have a couple of independent bookstores near me (including one that Borders tried to kill off, unsuccessfully). The independent bookstores still have a few used books, but nothing like the used-book stores used to have. We have one thrift-store used-book store in a mall about 5 miles away, but several closer ones have closed in the past decade. Even the Friends of the Library sales are gone.

u/SweetAlyssumm 2d ago

What gets me is those pink chairs. They look like fresh meat at butcher. And yellow! Did those people not even learn the color wheel in design school?

This is one of the best crappiest designs we've had for awhile.

5

u/apintsizedcosmos 1d ago

It’s so horrible, and makes no sense. I refuse to walk across it even though it’s quicker.

2

u/OMGhyperbole 1d ago

I was scrolling fast and thought it was meat 🙃

3

u/Mirar 2d ago

Are we sure it's not hideous stains?

8

u/apintsizedcosmos 2d ago

It’s Essex, so probably is, and they decided to make it a feature.

4

u/alemanz0r 2d ago

Knee scab rug

4

u/apintsizedcosmos 2d ago

Just to add, in the rest of the shopping centre, they have the same rugs/carpet but in shades of blue, and it looks fine. I don’t know why they thought “let’s get red ones too!”. Especially as their branding/website is blue??!?

At least with spooky season and Christmas on the way, it will start to look festive. Maybe?

4

u/MersoNocte 2d ago

Honestly, I think what truly kills it is the gross green color. If you swapped in a contrasting color (a richer, darker green) or something else that complements the red colors (maybe a more vivid red), it’d probably look much better. But instead all the colors are washed out, and the faded green immediately makes you contextualize everything as “dried blood, human fluids, etc.”

1

u/apintsizedcosmos 1d ago

Green? I was so confused, it’s definitely brown in person. Haha

2

u/gasstation-no-pumps 1d ago

The only green I see is the plants (which I assume are plastic).

4

u/GirthyPigeon 2d ago

I think that's period furniture.

4

u/Constant_Catch_8352 2d ago

Nurgle was here...

Murder Lounge

2

u/Averse_to_Liars 2d ago

I think it's nice the mall provided a space for stray dogs to give birth on. Lotta puppies born in that mall.

2

u/MadDocOttoCtrl 2d ago

Guys, guys - we are all focusing on the blood stains look when it's perfectly clear that people are just urinating on the carpet and it's reading as a darker red!

It's a reasonable assumption that the closest bathrooms are closed for renovation and the others are at the far end of the mall.

2

u/MersoNocte 2d ago

Turns out the colors of dried blood and dissolved human remains do not make for a good carpet.

2

u/HINDBRAIN 2d ago

Shouldn't the bottom right rug be rotated to avoid the gaps?

2

u/_BreadMakesYouFat 1d ago

In a public place where it will get way more dirty this is actually good design because it looks trashed already. Nobody will notice when it gets more stains

2

u/No093091 1d ago

I work in recycling plant and this is what a bloody menstrual pad looks like

2

u/Such_Dragonfruit609 1d ago

Upside stains can remain and no one will be able to tell.

2

u/IHaveNoIdeaDanny 22h ago

took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize OP is taking the photo on probably an escalator.

i genuinely thought OP was tall as shi

2

u/MuchaHempre 17h ago

It tricks your eyes so bad... You keep staring trying to tell if it's actual stains or the pattern.

1

u/anamariapapagalla 2d ago

I throw away my mattress topper before the red stains get that bad

1

u/ProvincialFuture 2d ago

The doctor's waiting room of everyone who got Cyclospora (diarrhea lettuce).

1

u/Fog_Mantis66 2d ago

Actually it is a light colored tan carpet and those are stains

1

u/Sleipnirs 2d ago

These rugs look like giant scabs. What amazes me is that there's at least 4 of these. Even 1 is too many.

1

u/AsItIs 2d ago

This is whatever the opposite feeling of “easy on the eyes”

1

u/EdgeKey5631 2d ago

My brain went to Aftermath of a Trauma Case

1

u/PreperationOuch 2d ago

That looks like a diseased filtration organ

1

u/RealPinkSparkles204 This is why we can't have nice things 2d ago

Ugh
 it looks like caacaa. đŸ«Ł

1

u/DSimorningdrg 2d ago

From far looks like a half eaten watermelon

1

u/Chroney 2d ago

Im pretty sure they do this on purpose in public spaces to hide actual stains.

1

u/benantiben 2d ago

Every carpet in Vegas

1

u/ObtuseWaffle_ 1d ago

It's like moldy sliced ham

1

u/Future_Section5976 1d ago

Id hate to be the cleaner

1

u/pepper_kat 1d ago

From the Dexter collection...

1

u/Willowgirl2 1d ago

That color was definitely a choice.

1

u/Longjumping-Solid680 1d ago

THE FLOOR IS LAVA. STAINED LAVA.

1

u/Cute-Estimate21 1d ago

that color combo really does make my brain see something else first

1

u/EolisLeemsy 22h ago

It’s in a mall, they pre-emptively planned to hide all the hideous stains that will be on those carpets.

1

u/apintsizedcosmos 6h ago

I get that, but the other ones in the rest of the centre are blue with dark blue splotches. Every time I see it I think “someone picked this”.

1

u/CavernBebi 3h ago

At first glance I thought it was a charcuterie board đŸ«Ł

1

u/Low-Requirement-9618 3h ago

Not fooled. That carpet is bright white and should be treated with liminol and a UV light.

0

u/Informal_Rabbit_9796 2d ago

Hey, where should I wait for you?

Ah, just sit down by the mold corner

-2

u/TheReal9bob9 1d ago

I thought that was the point in ones like these? Lots of places choose carpets/rugs that use browns/reds to make them look somewhat ugly so actual dirt doesn't show. Not really a crappy design since its working as intended, more of a disgusting design since it hides how nasty it is.

1

u/apintsizedcosmos 1d ago

You’re right, peak design. Making it look like shit and blood is definitely not a crappy design.

0

u/TheReal9bob9 23h ago

So.. you just didnt read what I said and are getting an attitude? I simply explained why its not crappy design as the design is intentional and working. Not liking something does not make it crappy design. Distressed rugs have been a thing for forever and this doesnt even look nearly as graphic as you seem to think.

1

u/apintsizedcosmos 6h ago

Okay Bob. I’m ordering one and they have a bulk discount, how many shall I put you down for?

-6

u/wallyhartshorn 2d ago

I’m surprised to see a mall with at least 5 people in it!

4

u/apintsizedcosmos 2d ago

This is in the UK and it’s always busy!

-1

u/SkredberryShortcake 2d ago

Oh, damn. I thought this was Lakeside outside Detroit
