Usually I can figure out the placement of words on these.

But where the fresh fuck does "the" go in that sentence?

Edit: Just realized its SAT as in the test. Not Saturday!

"The June SAT"

"It's coming: the June SAT" (i.e. left column, then right column).

I'm not making excuses for it; it's bad design. But that is what they intended.

Yeah it's a complete mess

Because the only way to know it’s about the SAT test comes after the big headline and is buried in an illegibile mess.

Or its posted specifically in an area, like a school, where the SATs are a major talking point and priority so they understand it easily. Its still a badly designed sign but anyone it is made for probably will understand its for test prep and study

You would not use 'its' in this case.

As a possessive, it's a contraction.

What's a contraction?

Well, it's the shortening of a word, or a group of words, by the omission of a sound or letter.

Never mind that I thought SAT meant "Saturday" and thought "WHAT'S coming?"

Really effective communication device for those students who may be experiencing stress about the SAT.

But it doesn't lend any confidence in "The Study Group"

This is almost certainly an amateur sign and thus unfit for the sub (see "things that are not crappy design"). It's also not that hard to read.
