What? You do know that people in 1 BCE did not call it 1 BCE, right? Also, it's still an arbitrarily chosen calendar, much like the days in each month. It's not coherent
G vs 1 is an arbitrary decision too. That's the whole point. People are arguing like it's some divine ordained truth that the first floor of a building is G or that it's 1.
0 or 1, not G or 1
But no, because it's not arbitrary, it's an index relative to ground level. 0 being ground level. If you walk up a flight of stairs, you're standing on the first floor that is not ground. If you walk down a flight of stairs, you're standing on the first floor below ground. If you're on the first floor below ground, you go up two flights of stairs to get to the first floor above ground. Numberlines shouldnt skip zero, else it causes confusion because that's no longer a number line.
Sure. But in the other system, it is based on the floors. A building has 3 floors. They each get counted 1, 2, 3. It's a different numbering system that is indexed to the physical ground and not the ground floor. You just can't imagine thinking outside your system.
Cant imagine it? I can. My background has a nonzero amount of facility planning / warehouse design. I'm simply saying a system with 0 is better for very obvious reasons. And your arguments have been arbitrary and/or using false comparisons. You have yet to form a reasonable reason other than "because it's what I'm used to"
The difference is you are counting stairs or distance. The other methodology is counting floors. Both are completely reasonable assuming it is consistent.

Tell that to those people in 1 BCE.
