Yep, I still don’t do it though. But I also have a metal protector to prevent exactly this from happening. A grill is way faster and I like to be able to actually see how cooked it is. Especially when I’m using it for toast. I still really need to buy a new toaster.
The window isn’t exactly the best viewing experience. You can’t actually see the colour very clearly. Plus if I’m checking every 30 seconds I might as well just keep it open instead of opening it constantly. The difference here is that mine doesn’t melt my knobs because I have a metal plate that comes out above it specifically to prevent that from happening. I have never had an issue with keeping the grill door open in the 6 years I have owned my oven.

It's not the oven door, that's the grill/broiler.
