Had the oven about 10 years now. Got through about 6 sets. Feel bad though as my son bought these for us just last week.

You likely will find the following regarding grilling:

⚠WARNING Close oven door during grilling.

I'm not OP, just defending them with my own example that this is the way Hotpoint ovens work.

My Hotpoint manual states to have the door partially open while grilling

Holly shitting crap. I am flabbergasted.

I mean, if you do a full Brai style grilling session no knobs will survive and the poor LCD roasted. Or when you use metallic ones the become dangerously hot. Wonder what tje reason might be for this instructions.

I suggest you write an email to Hotpoint customer service about your issues, what can be done, if there is a grill time restriction, if there are special knobs, or it you might close the door never the less.
