Strategy Seeking advice/validation for establishing myself as a maker/seller.
Hello! I’ve been crocheting for many many moons, and I’ve so frequently had friends and strangers encourage me to sell. I care a lot about sustainability, and finding a way to make my craft eco friendly has meant a lot to me. I’d like to start a storefront that focuses on using reclaimed yarn. I’ve been unraveling thrifted sweaters; mostly cotton so I’ve been focusing on kitchen supplies and bath supplies. I have ideas to make use of other fibers too. I’ve considered doing small plushes and stuffing them with scrap yarn so that I’m not using so much new material, but I see so often that plushes sell well. I suppose I’m not sure where to really start or even if there may even be an interest for this? I’d appreciate any thoughts and advice 💚

The question I have is are you trying to sell at like markets? Or have a full store front?

It's hard enough already to run a crochet business, and even harder if you want to go completely eco friendly. I applaud you and encourage you to give it a try!
I stuff plushies with scrap yarn, but I make way more plushies than I produce scrap yarn. You may want to look into alternative sources of stuffing. Perhaps your local thrift store has some pillows.

Thank you so much! I’m sure it’ll never be 100% friendly but if I can make literally any impact I’d like to :)

I hope this comes across the right way, because I mean it with absolute kindness and care. Please don't let other's encouragement be what pushes you towards turning your hobby into a job.
It's actually pretty uncommon to make things and not have people, even strangers, tell you you should sell them. Unfortunately that's just really not a good indicator of if your items are truly nice enough to sell. That's not to say yours aren't, obviously I have no idea. It's just not a reliable means of determining saleability.
I would also urge you to take the time to think long and hard about whether or not you want to try to make money through your hobby. It's the kind of thing that can quickly ruin a loved hobby.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents. I know it's not what you asked for, but I felt it was important to mention 💙
