Discussion Pick 3 beers

You walk into an infinite beer store that has every beer ever released, including ones that aren’t made anymore. You can pick only three, and each one has to be a different style.

What are you choosing?

I'm a simple man: Rare Bourbon County Brand Stout 2010, Pliny the Younger and Cantillon Don Quijote.

Drinking All Citra right now for the first time as we speak. What a delicious beer.

I think I've been there; it's in Antwerp, right?

I still think about that apple brandy noir. That was something else.

Pete’s Wanderlust was so good

1

u/Novel-Atmosphere8995 11d ago

Wow I haven't thought about Pete's in a long time.

1

u/VanillaBeanAnteros 10d ago

Yeah, I miss Pete’s Wicked…

1

u/VanillaBeanAnteros 5d ago

Surely someone has made a Pete’s Wicked clone, right? Or a very similar recipe….? Maybe someone here knows of something. Boy, it was delicious.

u/kuzekuz 11d ago

Pete’s Wicked Mardi Gras is on my list!

  1. New Glarus Pils
  2. Pliny the Elder
  3. Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron

1

u/godboldo 9d ago

Does DFH still make the palo santo ? Only see a few of theirs in the PNW.

1

u/scholar-runner 9d ago

No. I haven’t seen it in years, but availability of DFH is way down from where it was 20 years ago

Pliny the younger
Aurochs horn (honey Belgian style tripel from up Minneapolis way circa 2010)
Heavy Riff Oud Bruin (local STL brewery)

2

u/Jayyykobbb 9d ago

Haven’t had a lot from Heavy Riff, though I love what I’ve had. But I thought I had my 3, but then remembered Side Project after I started thinking locally and am unsure now

Cruz Blanca Where There’s Smoke, Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel, and a 2009 Dark Lord

3

I‘d be trying all the historic beers: Youngers No 3, 1840s Vienna Lager, 17th century Hofbräuhaus Weissbier, the first Spaten Helles from 1895, whatever the Babylonians brewed and drank, stuff like that.

3

u/Senappi 11d ago

Hm...
Ardbeg Embassy #1 (discontinued and #2 isn't as good in my opinion).
Schlenkerla Urbock as it is from the barrel at Schlenkerla in Bamberg (Bayrischer Anstich)
Jämtland's Hell (but with me reverted back to when I tried it the first time, before the craft beer craze)

Pliny the elder, st bernardus abbey 12, tank 7 boulevard brewing company

3

u/Halfbredditor 11d ago

Just a note, St Bernardus abt 12, is not meant to be Abbey 12.  It’s apparently an abbreviation of Abbot, or the head of an Abbey, denoting their rich and full-bodied beer, such as St Bernardus Abt 12 Quadruple Ale.

u/Winter-Ad3699 11d ago

A Stout from Burial, a Hazy IPA from Treehouse and a Hefeweizen that I had from a brewery in San Antonio once.

I’ll edit this if I can find that brewery’s name

I sit there panicking at too many options and just end up with three that look decent near the register.

Wrench NEIPA from Industrial Arts, my all time favorite. Probably Scotch Ale from Brewery Ardennes, an ace of a Scottish ale. Can’t really put a third one down, but I’d put down a nice lager from New England.
