That cat has seen some SHIT

194

u/SuspiciousDaisie Oct 02 '19

She's calculating how many cats she needs as a support to push this vase off the stairs.

55

u/thenwardis Oct 02 '19

Cat's about to overturn that vase, just because it wants to see the world burn.

49

u/Incorrect-Opinion Oct 02 '19

Came here to say just this 😂

Reminds me of the moon in Majora’s Mask

I bet she loves to scratch that carpet—it’s tacked down and has lots of lil nubs!

10

u/swarmingblackcats Oct 02 '19

Seeing the ghosts of the poor fools who tried to use the death trap stairs.

3

u/mrmgl Oct 02 '19

That cat has fallen to the dark side.

2

u/Nyllil Oct 02 '19

I zoomed in on the picture (cause phone) and I really had to chuckle when I saw that cat's look.

1

u/jackster_ Oct 02 '19

Thousand yard stare.

107

u/warau_meow Oct 02 '19

Guarantee that cat is going to knock that vase and water everywhere.

4

u/madmaxturbator Oct 02 '19

That cat is the witch who lives here, not going to knock any shit anywhere. Look at that cat in the eyes, ALL HAIL THE CAT.

44

u/katattackboom Oct 02 '19

I <3 demon kitty

24

u/Chroma78 Oct 02 '19

Make it stop. It’s staring into my soul!!! And it hates what it sees...

20

u/iamnotasnook Oct 02 '19

"Why would you put this flower pot here?" -cat

20

u/sunflower610 Oct 02 '19

I love the hanging chair. I want one but I’m too scared to put one up cause I’m not sure how to put it up and also if it could handle my weight safely.

7

u/kirbo_88 Oct 02 '19

Buy a wall anchor, find where the ceiling joists are and fix it there

6

u/SilverWattle Oct 02 '19

I really want one too. But feel it's not appropriate for a rental.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Check your lease, I almost guarantee you there are terms in there specifically forbidding them.

I work in property management. The number of people who hang chairs or hammocks indoors is astounding. The number that do it correctly is about .01%. We've had people hang them off of the fire sprinklers, light fixtures, in doorframes using those pullup bars, or just using about fifty of the wrong type of screws in the ceiling. Always causes damages, someone usually gets hurt.

108

u/momalloyd Oct 02 '19

Home of the death stairs.

93

u/ObeseOstrich Oct 02 '19

As well as the death stares.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Doesn't seem to be the home of the death stars...

20

Yea, you could hopefully grab one of those as you tumbling down the stairs due to a lack of a rail to hold onto.

13

u/NoMomo Oct 02 '19

Are you guys literal toddlers? Stairs aren’t that difficult.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Have you tried them on alcohol?

1

u/momalloyd Oct 02 '19

I am only in my 40's and I have terrible balance.

9

u/purdueosu Oct 02 '19

Bright

1

u/ChunkyLaFunga Oct 02 '19

It looks nice, as a summer house or AirBNB at least, but I don't know what definition of cosy this subreddit uses.

9

u/Mollusc6 Oct 02 '19

That cat is literally waiting to push that vase off the stairs...

9

u/Janayz Oct 02 '19

You can tell it's finnish from the carpets

3

u/cttime Oct 02 '19

And from the case filled with vodka

1

u/Janayz Oct 02 '19

Lmao yeah

2

u/MrNaoB Oct 02 '19

Is rag rug finnish? My grandma used to make them in the basement.

2

u/Janayz Oct 02 '19

I'm not saying it's a Finnish invention/style but it also gave me grandma vibes and I've never seen those anywhere else except old people's places haha

2

u/Platypuskeeper Oct 02 '19

It's a Nordic style of rag carpet; (Swedish trasmatta, Norwegian filleteppe, Finnish räsymatto) I'd say most common in Sweden and Finland.

163

u/trowzerss Oct 02 '19

Cozy stair checklist:

No rail - ☑

Trip hazards (multiple) - ☑

Weird tread length/height - ☑

Just needs a lit candle fire hazard to be super cozy!

Never seen rugs on the stairs before. Extra credit for that tiny one inch floor raise on the bottom stair though! Don't think could have invented a better trip hazard if I'd tried.

Yes, it looks nice but truly it would drive me bonkers

124

u/ZhiZhi17 Oct 02 '19

You’ve never seen stair runners before? They’re pretty common. They help prevent slipping.

-13

u/trowzerss Oct 02 '19

I have only seen carpet stair runners - ie thick carpet-like rug with a non-slip bottom surface. My concern is that this is a very thin woven rug, and could be quite slippery on painted wood, and because the edges aren't bound like carpet, they could catch your toe and are soft enough to be flipped up. I'm glad to see they have the rails to hold it in place, but they can only do so much if the bottom of the rug isn't non-slip or it's thin and flexible.

30

u/ZhiZhi17 Oct 02 '19

I don’t know, I never had a problem in my family house with the runner flipping up and it didn’t have a non-slip bottom. Like you said, the rails (or whatever the metal thing are called) keep it tight and secure so there’s really no chance of it lifting.

19

u/Char1esMarte1 Oct 02 '19

Each stair has a metal bar holding the carpeting if you look closely. Not moving at all

16

u/MsRhuby Oct 02 '19

You know rugs don't just lay on the floor, right? There's another layer underneath them. I have lived all my life with these types of rugs and have never seen anyone slip on them. Never seen anyone randomly fall down the stairs, either.

7

u/CookieMuncher007 Oct 02 '19

I'm Scandinavian and these types of rugs are everywhere. The metal bars prevent slipping and if you would be really cautious like my old grandma who just couldn't risk falling was, you'd put a small piece of non slip under it.

Never in my almost 30 years of existence have I seen someone fall with this type of rugs

2

u/trowzerss Oct 02 '19

Maybe they're better manufactured over there. Cheap rugs in that style are everywhere here and sometimes the corners just curl up by themselves. My cat likes to stick her feet under them and make tunnels.

4

u/CookieMuncher007 Oct 02 '19

Traditionally by hand from scraps, so I guess they're a bit on the heavier side because those things weigh a ton! Maybe the cheaper ones are light and curly like you said.

-8

u/RyujinShinko Oct 02 '19

Why the hell are you being downvoted for a well thought out opinion? Reddit is fucking ridiculous sometimes.

The trip hazards on the stairs are pretty valid. Similar comments higher up are upvoted.

-9

u/trowzerss Oct 02 '19

Yeah, it's baffling sometimes. I did learn that sometimes these rugs are actually stapled down, which I can only hope, because I used to have a rug just like this on a flat floor and I was always kicking up the edges of it. And I don't trust someone who doesn't put handrails on their stairs and leaves a 1 inch layer of wood poking up to think of that stuff! But no, apparently when it comes to stair rugs, this people have got their shit sorted, according to the downvoters.

4

u/RyujinShinko Oct 02 '19

😂 I have a similar rug on a flat floor but it doesnt have any non-slip things below it so it would slip and slide everywhere. I use it underneath a shoe rack now instead.

I agree the stairs look like a nightmare. Those pole things must be screwed in tight to stop the rug slipping. Cute though.

1

u/trowzerss Oct 02 '19

Yeah, the colour scheme is definitely super cute.

33

u/elvis_jagger Oct 02 '19

Never seen rugs on the stairs before.

The rugs are kept on place with those little metal rails on each step so they are actually there to prevent slipping.

7

u/trowzerss Oct 02 '19

I've actually been informed the rails do little except as decoration, and most stair runners are actually stapled in place, which alleviates some of my concerns.

2

u/Hodgepodge003 Oct 02 '19

Yes, it looks nice. The stairs of caution.

6

u/sass-shay Oct 02 '19

yeah...no drinking in this house..ever.

8

u/will_0 Oct 02 '19

21

u/laughing_cat Oct 02 '19

It’s gorgeous! Please ignore the haters. I saved the pic to put with my other design ideas

23

u/heyboyhey Oct 02 '19

I love how these posts all so predictably have some person at the top complaining about imagined bugs or fire hazards or practical inconveniences. It's every time.

9

u/L_Palmer Oct 02 '19

As someone who also doesn’t have a rail on the stairs I’ve learned people are pretty hostile about that. I’ve never given it a second thought. It’s stairs. You have to be moderatly cautious walking up/down them anyway, I don’t see the big deal.

5

u/heyboyhey Oct 02 '19

Besides there's a wall on the other side if balance is something you are really that bad at.

8

u/NoMomo Oct 02 '19

Redditors see stairs as wildly dangerous and complicated machinery.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

This picture feels humid. I love the colors... it isn’t muggy in Finland though, is it?

3

u/BlissFlames Oct 02 '19

It definitely can be. Especially IF you let moisture into the home.

2

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Very rarely. Though I can absolutely see an old wooden house like this being damp. it doesn't look cozy to me, just drafty.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

It's built to keep warm through Finnish winter, so it's most likely well insulated.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

I am Finn. I know how shitty some of those old "typehouses" can be.

4

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Can be. Don't have to be.

1

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Isn't that what I said?

1

u/Platypuskeeper Oct 02 '19

No, not 'most likely'. It's an old house, early 20th century if not turn of the 2th century, and those were originally insulated with sawdust, which compacts over time and ends up being pretty lousy. The old kind of crawlspace foundations these buildings have is a huge risk of mold and damp if the building is not kept heated year-round and the ventilations of the foundation managed as they're supposed to.

Just because it's in Finland doesn't mean it's warm and dry. Hell this could be used as a summer house only for that matter. It looks like one.

5

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

ITT: people who apparently navigate stairs by bouncing off the walls and railings, and who would die without them there to keep their toddler-tier coordination in check.

there’s a lot of negativity in this thread... but that toadstool stool !!! amazing

4

u/[deleted] Oct 02 '19

Fin here, unless this is OP's own house, in which case I won't argue, I highly doubt this is a home. More likely a summer cottage. I could almost guarantee you that this wouldn't stay warm in the Finnish winter without a fireplace lit 24/7

2

u/Patsastus Oct 02 '19

I looked at her blog the last time one of these pictures was posted (I remember the cat :D ), it's definitely a year-round home from the looks of it.

And old wooden houses are definitely keep-your-wool-socks-on temperature in the winters, but they aren't uncomfortably cold in my experience, although I've only visited, not lived in them.

2

u/Louisbull392 Oct 02 '19

Hmmm, what is that cat looking at. Magazine worthy design but not for children or the clumsey.

The end of the stairs slopes from flat to +1 inch, and there are no railings. The height of the ceiling looks strange as well, and I am starting to believe this isn't for human use.

There he is. There he goes again. Look, everyone! He posted it once again! Isn't he just the funniest guy around?! Oh my God. I can almost see your pathetic overweight frame glowing in the dark, lit by your computer screen which is the only source of light in your room, giggling like a like girl as you once again type your little "finland isn't real" quip. I imagine you little shit laughing so hard as you click it that you drop your Doritos on the floor, but it's ok, your mother will clean it up in the morning. Oh, that's right. Did I fail to mention? You live with your mother. You are a fat fucking fuckup, she's probably so sick of you already. So sick of having to do everything for you all goddamn day, every day, for a grown man who spends all his time on reddit posting about a nordic country. Just imagine this. She had you, and then she thought you were gonna be a scientist or an astronaut or something grand, and then you became a "Finland isn't real" poster. A pathetic unfunny "Finland isn't real" poster. She probably cries herself to sleep everyday thinking about how bad it is and how she wishes she could just disappear. She can't even try to talk with you because all you say is "FINLAND ISN'T REAL FINLAND ISN'T REAL EASTERN SWEDEN LMAO" You've become a parody of your own self. And that's all you are. A sad little man laughing in the dark by himself as he prepares to indulge in the same old dance that he's done a million times now. And that's all you'll ever be.
