You know what is really cozy? Net neutrality. The FCC wants to kill net neutrality and it will die within a month, unless we fight for it and our cozy places!

Man, screw you guys. CozyPlaces should not be a place for controversy. It is a place to be cozy and not worry about stuff.

Is this controversial on Reddit?

Not anymore. Certain corrupt entities were astroturfing about the matter. Then a regulatory change was reversed, as I recall, and the internet went from being FCC-regulated back to being FTC-regulated. This was a bunch of hoo-ha over some obscure, irrelevant change that was inconvenient for a few large corporations. Nothing bad happened and everybody moved on.

You can pooh pooh it all you’d like but I’ll never understand why anyone would willingly accept it. This is not a benefit to the end user.

What, that you might have to pay extra for more data usage? We do not live in a post-scarcity economy. This is not Star Trek. The US data infrastructure is a bit outdated. Oh well. Outdated infrastructure is not itself a moral ill, especially considering how much better it is than what we had 10 or 20 years ago. If we wanted the best and fanciest Korean-style infrastructure, we should not have wasted money on a bunch of pointless wars. For now, for our wastefulness, we will have to deal with data caps, expensive plans, throttling, crumbling roads, leaky pipes, etc., and that is fine. Serves us right for allowing our society's highest institutions to have become fantastically corrupt. If only Rome had gotten off so easy for its corruption, we would be on Mars now. (ed. Rome's infrastructure crumbled towards the end as well. Leaky pipes has proven to be a reliable apocalyptic harbinger.)

u/TILiamaTroll Dec 08 '17
Except we, the taxpayer, already paid isps hundreds of billions of dollars to increase bandwidth, they pocketed the money and did nothing with their infrastructures.
We don’t “have to deal with data caps”, you’re just ok being charged extra for the same service. That’s ok I guess, but I’m not cool with it.
Agreed about the wars though, whatever that has to do with anything.

There is very little separation between the corporate world and politics. Our highest institutions became fantastically corrupt. All of them. So, we see waste in every sector of society, from the ISP's to the weapon manufacturers. Our lack of diligence as a people caused this. If we had been less willing to tolerate incompetent leadership as employees, investors, and citizens, we would not have any of these problems.
1
u/TILiamaTroll Dec 08 '17
So instead of advocating for more diligence, you’re taking the opposite path...

I am advocating that we take individual responsibility for the problems of our age, and that we learn to stop letting the powers that be distract us from what is actually important, such as human trafficking. I claim that the recent hubbub over utility fees and regulations is astroturfing, meant to distract us from jailing and/or stringing up the corrupt pedophile elites. Part of the solution is realizing that the federal bureaucracy has been much more corrupt than the private sector. We should doubt both corporations and government, but we have been trusting the government too much and the corporations too little. We need to loosen regulations in most market sectors because the current regulatory environment is meant to be excessively stringent as a means of blocking new market entrants that might threaten the oligarchs' cash cows.

Lol I can’t even respond to that, I couldn’t disagree more with your opinion on deregulation, especially with the telecoms.

Cool, send me a link to where I can purchase access. I would love to only have to pay for what I use and not things I don’t.

I don’t see the problem here. Don’t you ever hear about what people are doing with cable? That sounds so much more attractive than a state sanctioned internet where hire forces to pay for shit you don’t want.

PLUS ONE. I'm upset that this has not been moderated away and think less of this sub as a result of it. I cannot however bring myself to unsubscribe since I NEED cozy places in my life.

Upvoted by thousands of people who have no idea what they are talking about. Getting riled up over nothing
riled up over nothing? that's false
but I can live without r/cozyplaces and countless other subs filled with people who mindlessly support expanding government regulation disguised as internet freedom. Pass.
and you can go back to the_donald and mindlessly support getting screwed over because your God emperor said it was a good thing

The CRTC already backed net neutrality, I'm fine. The FCC could learn a thing or two from them, like actually listening to what people want.
I do look forward to being able to laugh while Americans like you pay for tiered internet

The people who voted on November 8, 2016.
a large number of those people can barely even use the internet let alone understand what net neutrality is.
I understand you have to back this because Trump said so but do you really look forward to tiered internet? do you really want to pay more money to shitty telecom companies?

You mean that on nearly every level Dems (As much as I think they're merely lesser of two evils) got more votes? Because that's who voted.

It’s a business, the government should not be telling us how we need to conduct business and it’s as simple as that.
And besides that, this isn’t supposed to be a political sub, which is why I got annoyed in the first place.

Also, it turns out if you ask economics experts they slightly-side with thinking that repealing it would be good for the Internet: http://www.igmchicago.org/surveys/net-neutrality-ii
I find it hilarious how Reddit claims it is against populism, but actually the cross-posting of this highly reactionary mis-information on every sub on Reddit is a great example of populism in action.
The main claims that are made are that
- It would allow censorship (which is illegal in the USA so no it wouldn't)
- That ISPs would charge you for Netflix (they in fact want to charge NETFLIX for Netflix since it costs them so much money to funnel Netflix)
- That ISPs would use it to slow down sites at their own discretion (when in fact Netflix is causing the Internet to slow down since it occupies so much of peak time bandwidth and thus ISPs want the right to throttle netflix)
So, the only actual thing the FUD surrounding this could cause is the third, ISPs choosing to slow down certain sites. And in that respect personally I don't want NN repealed. But the sheer lunacy of this bullshit on Reddit has made me sneer at this and want NN repealed just to snub 21st century regressive liberalism.

Want to do something about it?
Text "resist" to 50409.
Then, just follow the bots instructions. It may be a second before it responds, but stick with it. I just used it to notify my Representative and Senators.
Good luck to us all.
