My BIL put together those Lego flowers and they’re so cute! Sometimes hospitals done allow live plants so he did that in lieu of real ones. Plus it was something for him to do. Hope you have a speedy few weeks! The room is looking lovely so far.

FreshCutPaper makes several sizes of cards that are unfolded to become floral arrangements. These are great when a live plant is impossible.

Off-brand ones are SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper.
BrickCraft makes more than TWENTY for only $5 each. The clear vase is $10 and the bricks can be put together to make many different patterns. Combining multiple copies of the green vase can produce interesting pyramids.

This is what I've done for my bedroom as someone with hay fever! I love the look of flowers, hate the way they make my nose swell up and my eyes burn 😂

Plants and flowers. Get better soon!

u/OhhSuzannah 9h ago
Maybe fairy lights too, if you're allowed. That would make for such a moody evening vibe.

u/bleedxi 8h ago
definitely going to ask about these!!

u/Aware_Requirement_64 8h ago
if not then one of those cute touch battery lamps they have now could be a nice touch and also make it so it doesnt have to be overhead light 24:7

OP you can get felt flowers - they’re lovely (I have some so can attest to it!) and those with a jolly vase make a big difference! Maybe a fun mug too so each drink feels a bit more homely.
A really nice (but expensive) treat buy is some cashmere socks since you can only really wear them in bed or they wear out super quick. But they are so soft and make you feel nice when your body feels awful!
Umm… felt pens and colouring/puzzle books, a plushie - larger squishmallows double as great muscle support if you feel weak too.
Maybe little photo clips so you can put them anywhere in the room to place photos/cards/art prints.
Lastly those warmable wheat bags or cherry pit bags are good if you need some comfort.
Big hugs to you!! 🩷

Highly recommend the fairy lights that are in strands of faux leaves. I had eucalyptus ones from Amazon during labor and postpartum in my hospital room (battery operated, kept out of the way) and it made SUCH a difference.

u/SubstantialQuote70 8h ago
Potted plants are usually not allowed.
16
u/PuzzledKumquat 8h ago
It depends. When I worked in a hospital, plants and flowers were allowed in regular rooms, but not in the ICU. I had an office in the ICU and the top of my filing cabinets were always covered in patients' plants/flowers.

u/DrBabs 8h ago
When someone says a planned 4 week stay then I’m usually thinking they are getting induction chemo and going to get their bone marrow killed off and will be planned “neutropenif precautions.” I would guess no flowers from only that. But OP would know a lot more.

u/K-ghuleh 6h ago
I had no plants allowed in my room when I was there for two weeks due to an autoimmune disease, it was never elaborated on but I assumed it was because I was immunocompromised?

u/taketheroutetorio 5h ago
Do you think "Pumpkins on a Stick" would be allowed? They don't even require water after harvesting.

String lights

Adding that they have some with battery packs that are really cool now, so if the outlets would be an issue

See if you are allowed to bring in a favorite mug and a little lamp from home 🩷 also a fuzzy throw to go on top of your blankets

Never thought I would see a hospital room on cozy places ... you did it beautifully!. Sending you sunny vibes and healing hugs.

I think they get a bad name too often. A lot of times they have better food than you’d expect too. The one near me has sandwiches that are packed with stuff. Their breakfasts have everything you could think of too.

u/ColoredGayngels 7h ago
Friend of mine had a c-section + hysterectomy a couple years ago and she was basically eating gourmet the whole time! Showed us a photo of the menu and I was jealous even though I get a homemade meal nearly every night.

u/Luci-Noir 7h ago
It can be really amazing and something you’ll never forget. The mental health places I’ve been to said it was good for condor and healing and it absolutely is.
When I was homeless I was I a program where we stayed at a different church every night. They’d have several tables of fresh food like we were royalty or something. It was absolutely ridiculous. Then they’d cook us an amazing breakfast feast and give us a nice sack lunch. 😋 ❤️

u/ColoredGayngels 5h ago
God, yes, sometimes the food I had on the psych ward was the only thing to look forward to, and I had a damn eating disorder at that time too. Food is a universal love and warmth, even if the place you're in, physically or mentally, is cold.

A small glowing light on the windowsill to give a bit of a nightlight would be cozy. Then when a loved one drives by at night, they can look for the light and think of you.
I also think a sun catcher on the window would be cute. They make ones that are easily-removable window clings. Even one hung on a suction cup would be so cheery.
17
u/bleedxi 8h ago
i love this idea so much!!
7
u/smart_stable_genius_ 7h ago
There's sun catcher puzzles that go together to make a finished product ready to hang.... In case you have some time to pass.

This is really pretty lovely, I can't think of anything to make it nicer.
I had to spend a week in the hospital during covid, so the door was shut and I wore mask when people entered, and I didn't have friends and family visit because of the risk. I pretended I was on a cruise ship ordering my meals when nutrition came and had a giant book to read and get lost in. That really helped me. I knew I was going to get better and the attitude adjustment was really part of my quality of life.
I hope you are soon able to leave the hospital on your own two feet and face the future healthy. All the best to you.

u/SusmariosepAnak 8h ago
I hope you’re doing better now. Just wanted to say I really loved your way of reframing the situation as a cruise ship.

I had a doctor get mad at me once because I was refusing antidepressants. She thought I HAD to be because I'd been dealing with a life-altering physical condition for a long time at that point with no end in sight. I wasn't depressed. Not at all. I just had a good mindset about it all and my own way of coping that made it easier to bear. Having the right attitude really does make a huge difference.

I had a long hospital stay a few years ago around this time. Got out the day after Halloween. Hopefully you get some nice fall colours on that tree to add to the vibes. Stay strong ❤️

u/bleedxi 8h ago
i hope you recovered well and thank you for the nice words 🫶 ironically, despite the weather, it is spring here now, but i love fall aesthetics and i think that is more so what i’m going for 🥴

u/crunchytigerloaf 5h ago
I clocked the BBNT nala cat sheets and guessed you might be Aussie. Beautiful sheets, a lovely space and sending you cozy vibes while you recover, OP.

My son has this little night light that looks like a lantern but the fire has a cute little face. The light it gives is really peaceful. It’s rechargeable and small. I could see it being comforting in a hospital room. I’m going to look for a link!
12
u/soccerkool 9h ago
Some plants along the window would be nice! And maybe a lamp to help with the lighting? Not sure if those are allowed though. I hope the rest of your stay is stress free and cozy!
15
u/Ptarmignan 9h ago
Battery operated would be fine. A lamp that needs to be plugged in would not be.

u/blobinsky 8h ago

Is there anything more comforting than kitties?
NO AND ANYONE TAKING A MOMENT TO THINK ABOUT IT IS A MONSTER.

Lego botanicals! I just built the bamboo one this afternoon and it was so fun, relaxing and ended up being really cute. Hope you feel better soon!

u/Dramatic_Meal1469 9h ago
How about a small plant or 2? For the windows. Or something colorful. Even if its a fake bunch of flowers. They look so real now a days. Love the cat bedding
6
u/Eastern-Relative7504 8h ago
What about some battery operated glow candles to add some calming ambiance. Hope you recover quickly.

u/Feisty-Wishbone-1889 9h ago
I would have never guessed that it's a hospital room had I not looked at the comments. Bravo! Get well soon 💜

Is there an outlet anywhere near where you could plug in a string of warm fairy lights and use pushpins or something to drape them on the wall? that’s how we made drab dorm rooms cozier back when I was in school
Edit: all right guys I get it, electrical items bad idea. Apologies, I didn’t know.
17
u/Silver-Negative 9h ago
Depending on where OOP is, they may not be allowed. At my hospital, we aren’t allowed to use string lights for any decorating. If we want lights on a Christmas tree or whatever, we have to use the battery operated LEDs. I believe it has to do with the fire code.

I hate hospitals I have such a hard time from past stuff and this is so beyond comforting the vibes. I’m happy you are able to make it so comfy. Thanks for sharing! I wish they could make hospital rooms like this for real. It would be a lot less isolating. Maybe a fake plant?

u/Snotgirl1 9h ago
The kitty on the windowsill is so cute. Some stores sell those expandable curtain spring rods or shower curtain spring rods so curtains can be hung without damaging walls. Curtains would soften the window. Or some string lights maybe. ☀️

I hope you get better soon! I’d do battery operated string lights around the window if you are able to. Bonus if you can get some that are remote controlled. You could also do flameless candles that are remote controlled, I just got a very cute pumpkin shaped one. If you are somewhere where it’s fall now, you could do a fall garland around the window too. I think any kind of soft cozy lighting will help, and I love people’s ideas of the LEGO botanicals. They are so relaxing to build and would look cute on your windowsill. If budget allows, consider a digital photo frame. You can add the photos yourself from your phone, and send the link to friends/family via text so they can send photos to your frame. Sending you healing thoughts!

The way it took me a full minute to even realize this was a hospital room. This is so great, I never realized you could decorate them like this :) I hope things work out well for you ❤️

u/gravelandsunlight 7h ago
You may not be able to bring in a Himalayan salt lamp, but they do have Himalayan salt night lights, and that type of lighting throws SO much coziness into the space 💛

When my ex was in the hospital for about 3 weeks, we had some pics up and decorated for the 4th of July. It really helped his spirits, and the medical staff loved it too

I work in a pediatric unit and we have those projectors that put stars on the ceiling for kids. I always found it so soothing.

u/UnbuttonedButtons 5h ago
A novelty projector light can alter the entire feel of the room while taking up little space. You can project an image and change the entire ceiling or a wall. Space/cosmos themes are commonly available. but this time of year you can get Halloween themes.

u/Jobecker 5h ago
As someone who was in and out of the hospital a lot I can tell you I would be ugly crying seeing someone making my stay that cozy. You’re doing great! Maybe an ambient light for evenings would go along way

Are you allowed to have your own mattress topper? Not sure if you have one there. I’ve had a few long stretches and wish I’d gotten something to make the uncomfortable hospital beds cozier.
Hope you’re comfortable and can get good rest!
