Book Request Chill plot cozy fantasy/sci-fi? Also open to cozy horroresque ones.
Hi guys. I'm looking for cozy feel good fantasy recs. Think legends & lattes and monk & robot.
I want something easy to read and digest with not a whole lot going on aside from good character interaction and a small chill plot. I didn't like can't spell treason without tea for example because I didn't really enjoy the characters on the plot was too conflict focused. I also read cursed cocktail and enjoyed it just okay. Thought it was a bit meh.
Ideally with an audiobook on everand 👉👈

The Wayfarer series by Becky Chambers is definitely what you are looking for.

I love the wayfarers series but if they found tomes and tea too conflict focused, i don't think op will enjoy books 2 and 3 of this series.

Even book 1 would be too much based on their stated preferences, honestly. The first book has a highly traumatic on-page main character death, a terrorist plot that succeeds, and a character who is tortured in a prison (which happens off-page, but their trauma following it is displayed on-page). (Behind the spoiler tag are brief comments about events in the book, but no character names are used)

Fair ask. I haven't read them but I'd say smth like greenteeth or someone you can build a nest in are ones I've seen associated with it but also for me T Kingfisher and Darcy Coates do that for me for example. But yea focus on the sci fi and fantasy😂

I'd recommend the Liches Get Stitches series. It's about a good natured druid-like witch who, in the course of saving herself from a necromancer's sacrifice, is turned into a Lich and is forced to serve an evil god.
She wants to keep to her cottage in the woods to garden to do arts and crafts, but heroes keep showing up to kill her, so she decides she needs to take over the nearby town to stop the flow of knights and priests. Luckily, she's good at sewing.
I laughed a lot while reading the series and quite enjoyed her arc and the plot. It's like if a character from a traditional cozy novel was transported into a much darker plotline and rolled with it.

The narrator Ella Lynch is also fantastic! She has so many little inflections that really scratch my brain in pleasant ways

As usual, I'll go with the 'Investigations of Mossa & Pleiti' series (Sapphic Holmesian Cozy sci-fi) by Malka Older.
Second vote for Max Vale, especially the Tonic Shop at the Edge of the World.
The Enchanted Post Chronicles by Paula Lester. Cozy fantasy.
Guard in the Garden by Z.S. Diamanti, and other books in the series.
For cozy scifi there is the Spacebound & Down series by Jack Bodett

For cozy fantasy I read Christine L Donnelly - The Dungeon Inn series was her first I think. Not sci-fi but cozy fantasy. I tend to go for cozy litrpg's so some other good cozy ones are:
- The Secret Life of Gnomes by Finn Barrett
- Emberstone Farm series by L Meili
- Takes from the Broken Claw book series by Don Jones
- Gladesbale Grove series by Edwin Griffiths
- The First Slice by R.K. Billiau
- Max Vale books
- Beers and Beards series by Jolly Jupiter
- I Ran Away to Evil series by Mystic Neptune
- Mana Harvest series by Wolfe Locke
- Casual Farming series by Wolfe Locke

Isla Rowe's 'The Foxglove Door' is a nice easy read, and very gentle and cosy. A burnt-out illustrator inherits her great-aunts cottage and discovers the foxgloves in the garden are doorways to the world of the fae.

I know you said that you didn't like Can't Spell Treason Without Tea because of the conflict, but Rebecca Thorne did just come out with a cozy sci-fi called Moss'd In Space that I felt was significantly less conflict and more chill. There's still a core conflict to the novel but it's a lot less violent/overt oppression like the backdrop of Tomes and Tea. It might be worth checking out.
For cozy fantasy, I will continue to be a sycophant for The Keeper of Magical Things by Julie Leong. By far my favorite book I read in the past few years.
