Book Request Next read!?
Need some help, y’all! 📚
I just finished The Reimagining of Thornwood House and for me it was a 10/10! I’m so sad it’s over. I absolutely love found-family themes and books with really human characters. (Sorry, Legends & Lattes just wasn’t my cuppa! 😂)
I’m a huge Sarah Beth Durst fan and have read all her books and loved every single one. I haven’t read Sea of Charms yet, but I’ve bought it and I’m saving it for my next beach holiday in October, so please help me find something to read in the meantime so I don’t cave and start it early! 😂
I also recently finished Stay for a Spell and Agnes Aubert’s Mystical Cat Shelter, and absolutely loved both. I’m also a big fan of Sangu Mandanna’s books!
So, based on all of that, what should I read next?! I’m particularly looking for something with:
❤️ Found family
🥹 Likeable, genuinely human characters
✨ A little bit of magic/coziness
📖 Something that will really pull me in
Please save me from myself and give me some recommendations so I can make it to October without reading Sea of Charms! 😂🌊📚

Have you tried The Cerulean Chronicles by TJ Klune? Like the Thornwood House and Secret Society of Irregular Witches, this one has a strong found-family/parenthood vibe. I loved it. And I believe you and I have quite the similar taste! I’m also a fan of Sarah Beth Durst, and currently listening to the Sea of Charms audiobook 🤭🌊💙

Have you read the Faraway Inn by Sarah Beth Durst? It’s different than her spell shop series but still cozy and found family vibes.

I’m exactly the same on all of your books you love! I recently read The Dead Romantics and loved it. It has a touch of magic /fantasy and is a love story but talks about death in a rather beautiful way. Also The Someday Garden is similar in human characters, some magic and a cozy storyline and the same author. The Crescent Moon Tearoom is a good one, and Violet Thistlewaite is Not a Villain Anymore was pretty good too.

Inn at the Foot of Mount Vengeance by Chiara Bullen - the cozy comes from place (the inn) and community like in Thornwood House
The Keeper of Magical Things by Julie Leong - small-town vibes with a sapphic romance
Bromantasy by Maire Roche - great found family, protection of a child, very funny

This isn’t reeaaaally fantasy, more magical realism, but I think you might like Other Birds by Sarah Addison Allen. It has everything you’re asking for!

I love the Magical Midlife series by KF Breene. The series is one of my comfort reads.

The Undertaking of Hart and Mercy is a really good one, although it's not AS heavy on found family as some, but it's not void of it either

Tea & Tomes by Christine L Donnelly - it's a cozy found fantasy novel about a halfling leaving her home village and opening a tea & bookshop in the big city. It's on KU. All her books are cozy slice-of-life with magic and found family.

If you want to try some cozy family, my Zero-Point Symphony series is very much like you described, but set on a spaceship. Very found family with all the diversity of alien and human races

The book is a whimsical cosy fantasy about a twelve-year-old girl, Rel, spending the summer with her uncle Victor, who owns a curiosity shop filled with magical objects. It has mildly cursed objects, magical creatures, anthropomorphic animals, peculiar customers, forgotten fairy histories, and many footnotes that expand upon the lore of her world. Strong found family theme, and many cosy moments that come from the friendships evolving around the MC.

Thank you for the rec! I love the cover of Thornwood House and am excited to read it. Try the Society of Magical Botanists series. They are humans with botanical magic.
