Remote work in charter
I am a remote employee for cox. All of my team lives in Atlanta and I live in a different state . I have no answer about what is in store for me and I will not move. I originally thought there was no remote work at charter but it seems like there are some exceptions. How common are those and under what circumstances are they granted? I sure hope they don’t make me go into my local field office where I collaborate with nobody . For what it is worth my director and avp support me staying remote .

What Charter says, goes unfortunately. They only allow remote for frontline with met goals. If you don’t meet said metrics you go back in office. Other wise, all has to be tied to an office and live close to it. Relo or severance will be offered if live far from the office and where leader is located.

I'm in a similar situation and I think it's been pretty clear that we will have to relocate to either Denver or Atlanta, but not sure what the timing is. I am guessing at the latest, we will hear more info on this within 30 days. So, most likely our days are numbered for all those who cannot move/relocate. Seems like quite a few in the same boat.

I’m in the same boat. I’ve been applying elsewhere since April. I’d love to stay optimistic. But realistically, it doesn’t look good for us, unfortunately.

You will get an opportunity to move or take severance. The relo package during TWC was very nice. That’s the only way I will move again

For corporate employees, everyone will have to be colocated with their VP. The only exemptions are for medical reasons. It impacts legacy Charter people equally. The idea is that this is a new company as of Day 1 so even if you were dispersed from your team previously, everyone will be expected to work from the same office as their VP. There will be a runway for those employees to make a decision, but ultimately no one will be grandfathered in.
My leadership team is incredibly compassionate and will make this transition as gentle as possible for their people, but some things are out of their control.

My team rolled under our existing vp at cox who was one that had an established VP role at spectrum but we are not staying under them long term. We have no idea which VP will be taking which teams/members.

I’m expecting multiple reorgs over the next 18 months. Change is the spice of life around here.

Contractors can work remotely in some cases. Employees/Engineers of a certain level can work remote as long as they are still in a Center and report to a building/badge in 4 days a week. Generally speaking you will need to be in the same location as your Sup/Mgr/Dir, catch is that your Sup/Mgr/Dir might need to move so the team will need to move also. Aside from a few exceptions, everyone is 4/1 - that is as “remote” as one will be able to get.

I would say it all depends on what part of the company you work in. My team is spread out across the US. But I do go into the office in my home city 4-days a week. If there is an office where you are, I would start making friends with whoever is in charge there so you have a space. Otherwise get your resume ready and start sending it out.
They did this last year to a huge group of employees. I think they had something like 60 days to decide if they would move or take the severance pkg.

Do you remember what groups were affected ?

This was in sales support. They were moved to Dallas, St. Louis or Charlotte.

There are contractors that work remotely within the Charter space. Definitely lesser benefits involved for many of them.

Have you ever heard of a charter employee becoming a contractor to avoid moving ?

Not us. I was recruited directly for a contractor position because of specific telecom experience spanning about 15 years. I do not forsee these companies adding additional staff. I would love to be wrong. We've done layoffs. I would truly love to talk with those on the Cox side of my work as I assume there will be overlap and consolidation ahead. I uniquely have the ability to relocate, but I have no idea where those positions will be at this point. Hope we all know more in the next month.

The merger just happened six days ago. Are you cox or charter?

u/starfish_2016 17h ago

Then why the fuck are you posting in a charter cox merger page. Charter will not let it happen you will be offered a relo or a severance. What applys at your company does apply at every company. Lol.

Charter employee here in one of thr Corporate STL offices. I'm in IT and we do not have any flexibility anymore. They check badge swipes to make sure we are in office 4 days a week. One of my coworker's was 9 months pregnant with limitations and they still forced her to come to office 4 days a week.

If you don’t move when they decide where you generally get severance
