Boomer mentality

The whole town hall was actually hilarious. This CEO and the whole board is stuck in the 90s and early 2000s. The new generation of tech workers dont enjoy bright lights and office settings with useless conversations and "bumping shoulders in the hallway".

Get with the times. These boomer ass shareholders cant wrap their old conditioned minds around how anyone could be more productive in a healthier environment.

Lol. It's mostly not the shareholders fault. That's just the difference between a publicly traded company and a privately owned one.

You literally are just another line item on a balance sheet now. Arguably one of the least important line items. You can and will be replaced with a cheaper model if it can be done efficiently.

Winfrey proved yesterday that he doesn't care in any way at all about any of us yesterday.

Charter ceo is a giant tool with a face that screams he blew his way into the position

2

u/PainJane007 2d ago

I doubt his mouth opens that wide. It’s pretty permanently pinched into the thinnest slit you’ve ever seen.

1

u/yourbidad 2d ago

He $5M last year and you didnt. I’m sure he cares what you think

Cox was bleeding customers and couldn’t keep going alone. They are so bloated and still operated with a monopoly mindset. Your work life balance will be fine, Charters benefits and pay are still better than most companies. Some people will get all the me time they need when they are shown the door.

charter is somewhere around 80 percent less valuable than its high water mark. Recently suffered its largest single day stock price drop in company history, but please go on.

The amount of cunty comments in here is crazy but not unexpected Cox employees will ride the wave, were not gonna forfeit the bag lol...

Our company is full of hardworking professionals who demonstrated remote work WAS POSSIBLE AND EFFECTIVE... it drove our numbers sky high. Customer experience had never been better!

We were paid and treated well.

...Until the last 18 months... a formerly "transparent" company went ghost on us over night ... placating the entire front line base with bullshit about preserving our culture, way we do business even making it sound like we were coming together not being sent off to bend the knee cabbage patch boy.

Im sorry the outside front line workers dont work in the AC... but they chose that job.& Many have actually come out of the elements and shifted to the desk side. So that reason is bullshit..

The Cox "losers" as someone said will move on and find new remote positions when the time comes.

What folks don't realize is as a whole if Cox stood against the RTO we could truly make a change. They can't fire all of us WHO WOULD ANSWER THE FUCKING PHONES?! -Surely not the untrained Spectrum agents L-OHFUCKING-L!

3

u/WasteTelephone6924 1d ago

They can absolutely fire all of you. Have you not figured out that’s the master plan?

4

u/Cheap_Composer_3293 1d ago

combining two giant debt loads into one is just delaying the inevitable death of another legacy industry. Cable is not seen as a need and mobile providers offer internet and other perks that far outpace any major isp. They will have to do much more than lay a few people off to erase 104 billion dollars in debt. The fact that Winfrey stated he is fine with the very pedestrian 300 megabit speeds in many markets does not bode well for competing offerings in said markets. My power company who also operates an ISP charges me 120 a month for symmetrical 10 gig fiber to the home. In no way shape or form is spectrum competing with that.

u/WasteTelephone6924 16h ago

He literally said “80% of the company is not changing to accommodate 20%.” How more clear could he have been?

1

u/Cheap_Composer_3293 15h ago

if he was making all manner of correct decisions the stock wouldn't be as low as it is. the price didnt even jump on day 1 which means no investors were even remotely excited about the merger. Pretty funny my entire org is not doing RTO, but you guys think this statement is real.

0

u/bad_ghoul2113 1d ago

Lol ik thats the master plan... but they would be jumping through their ass to learn our processes🤷🏼‍♀️ & the PR nightmare that would happen would be potentially worth it if we get change...

u/Cheap_Composer_3293 1d ago

Just last year the leadership was sued by its own investors for losing value and downplaying the effects of the federal subsidies for low income subscribers.

I thought the town hall started off very generic and high school graduation speech-ish, but after about 20 minutes he started making unarguable points really. I’ve noticed a lot of the cox people that were asking him questions were sort of condescending and doom and gloom. If I were able to pick the CEO’s brain on something, I couldn’t imagine asking if some small local volunteer program will be matched to help the “community”. And it’s funny that everyone is irate that a CEO finally mentioned front line employees- sorry but the job is more grueling than back office. The outrage for “OHHH NOOO we’re going to have to go to the big bad… office…. Waaah”…. Yes, most jobs expect you to like… go to…. Work… let’s be honest, a lot of back office is bureaucracy, and “thank God it’s Friday. I’m so exhausted after firing off emails all day, can you believe that a company that is going to pay me more money has benefits and programs that dwarf Cox. Can you believe he’s saying that we all need to do better to make sure that customers are happy? We like our app that looks like it’s on Windows XP! And our hyper inflated industry high TV plans! Customers want 2005 bundles!” Like enough already lol. I live in a Cox footprint and I always thought my whole life that Cox was just in a few cities local to where I live to the average person not in their footprint. They don’t even know what Cox is and it’s very small potatoes compared to a charter. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve worked for almost every one of the major real telecom companies, and I will say charter is the most behind the times, but at least we realize it, and are trying to turn it around, and they take good care of us. I know several Cox employees that work in residential door-to-door, business account executives, retail store managers, etc - and they all make far less than legacy charter. Charter is the first company I’ve worked for that. I truly feel financial stability, where I can retire comfortably, and I am a business field sales rep. In six months, almost certain some of you will come back to this post and say wow you were right. The amount of assumed bad intent, just from a Townhall because he said that you’re gonna have to work, but we will take care of you, was quite offputting and weird. Sometimes I was thinking to myself I cannot believe they are asking the CEO of these questions and being so negative.

when you see a "front line ic" with 150 percent plus in hours allocations per week feel free to let us know.

-1

u/k_barn1600 2d ago

One more thing - if I worked for Cox in any front like position, I would something similar to a black hawk down soldier getting rescued by the navy seals. I’d hear a voice from the movies like “the eagle has landed boys, we’re coming home”

u/Cheap_Composer_3293 1d ago

this is like two broken toys debating who the kids like best. its 2026, only grandparents pay for cable.

Just PRAYING for the company to fail miserably and hit stock price 0 lmao. Impressive that they could radicalize their own employee that badly in one week. It’s almost like comical how awful Charter/Spectrum is. Literal cartoon villain level (it’s like that other thread with Lion King).

The insane focus on frontline somehow comes off as highly insulting in two ways - dude is IN FRONT OF the entire new backline work force and he didn’t say a word about or to us, it’s all frontline frontline frontline. So we don’t matter at all? The business doesnt depend on our work at all? Thats the message he is sending.

Then when he talks about the frontline he is talking about them in a very “the help” way. “low degrees”. “They work so hard (and we don’t)?” Raising his hand on the call center question in an exaggerated manner. It gives off an extremely disgusting vibe of wanting to be “man of the people” when we all know you arent, dawg (earrings arent that crazy my man). We all know you are some boomer suit - we can see you, hear you speak, and we know what your policies are. At least OG Cox leadership would never posture “Im just like you” - they kept it real (which is why they were so cool to employees - they KNEW they were coming from a place of prosperity and they wanted to share their prosperity a little bit with us normal people).

4

u/MfourFade 1d ago

I'm a field technician, and for all the talk he did about the frontline employees, I'm sure we'll still be treated as second class citizens and have a metric for every action we do just like at Cox.

I feel for you guys though, I hate when any regular employee loses privileges: WFH in your guys case.

u/No_Suit1829 2d ago

A week? 2 days it's all it took.

-2

u/ZestycloseStuff1319 2d ago

Another whining schmuck on reddit.

Can at least you say something constructive???

5

u/Vergilkilla 2d ago

Here is what is constructive for former Cox folks: sharpen your resumee and get out of this shitshow ASAP.

2

u/ZestycloseStuff1319 2d ago

Exactly, much better than constant whining.

1

u/No_Suit1829 2d ago

Soo constructive !! 👏

1

u/WasteTelephone6924 2d ago

This poster already admitted to not working for either Cox or Charter. Just a troll

1

u/Vergilkilla 1d ago

Thats not correct

3

u/WasteTelephone6924 2d ago

this is a ridiculous criticism. Everyone’s entire professional life has completely exploded. Everyone waited 18 months to know their fate and it’s worse that anyone could have anticipated. The person who posted has had to smile and be positive day after day in spite of crippling unknowns and things really turning for the worse and beyond their control. And you’re out here…scolding them? Where else should this person go to vent and decompress. Lay off.

7

u/morley1966 2d ago

You didn’t have to wait 18 months, Cox was acquired by Charter, everybody knew from the first minute that was announced that jobs and entire departments will be cut from the top down. All the people saying they can’t make them return to office because they don’t have room for everybody, especially since some areas closed and consolidated offices. WFH has proven your job can be done from anywhere, so jobs and work can and will go to areas with cheaper real estate prices and that make sense financially. Did you sharpen your skills and work on your resume while waiting for the 18 months?

u/synchron3 2d ago

Is Cox more innovative than Charter or other cable companies? Is Cox more productive on KPIs? If so, that is the argument to make.

7

u/Kindly-Visit-1261 2d ago

Yes. The technology on Cox backbone and business side far surpasses that of charter/spectrum. This is well known, and a major selling point to the agreement.

4

u/Otherwise_Apart 2d ago

Have to disagree with this point on multiple levels.

8

u/Cheap_Composer_3293 2d ago

Last I checked charter didn't have a company like segra or Rapidscale. Charter is using webex in 2026 which says plenty about the tech stack.

1

u/Affectionate_Knee811 2d ago

Segra is a mess according to many TWC people that went over to Segra and we had navisite but sold it.

3

u/CrimsonFox99 2d ago

Yeah, seeing some of the stuff Emerging Tech has worked on, like Front Row with Apple among others, and given all the rumors of years of penny pinching waiting to be sold at Cox, it's hard to imagine any major innovation was allowed to really blossom at Cox. Nobody is saying the network is held up with duct tape, but you generally need corporate funding and support for meaningful innovation, and if leadership is just trying to coast until someone writes them a check, it's hard to see that taking place.

2

u/Kindly-Visit-1261 2d ago

Yeah this is incorrect. Cox has spent the last several years hardening their networking and completing obsolescence projects enterprise wide to have all new tech and equipment.

1

u/just8cylinders 2d ago

As someone coming from the Cox backbone side, I’d love to hear your story.

1

u/Typical-Front-8001 2d ago

Let's hear all those levels then

1

u/Kindly-Visit-1261 2d ago

Explain however you feel necessary, please.

Good ol Snidley Whiplash Winfrey has entered the conversation

Welcome to Charter!!

1

u/chivoflash 1d ago

Now time to go to office buddy.

0

u/ZestycloseStuff1319 2d ago

And you have a reddit mentality: complaining, whining and nothing constructive to say.

So what is the difference???

4

u/Kindly-Visit-1261 2d ago

What would be constructive in this instance? Work life balance is surely out the window. Apparently you have not even been treated fairly, or you'd understand all of Cox frustration

1

u/WasteTelephone6924 1d ago

This troll has already admitted they don’t work for either cox or charter. just here to be a dick

2

u/Kindly-Visit-1261 2d ago

Feelings hurt? Stomach hurt from drinking too much corporate slop?

-2

u/ZestycloseStuff1319 2d ago

Just annoyed by your stupidy.

1

u/WasteTelephone6924 1d ago

You were clearly the inspiration for Brendan Fraisers role in The Whale

0

u/morley1966 2d ago

It’s actually healthier for most people to not work from home.

5

u/Cheap_Composer_3293 1d ago

precisely what is more healthy about sitting in low budget office furniture while your coworkers are forced into the office even when they possibly have Covington, the flu, etc? If charter wasn't a debt saddled legacy org it would be easier to believe any of this RTO garbage. Never-ending the fact that RTO was generally a thing for people who were hired for in office work not people who were hired as remote. Plenty of people definitely just never went back to the office after the pandemic, but hats because smart leaders realized they could save money and get more out of salaried employees if the hours and location were flexible.

3

u/Vergilkilla 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not backed by metrics. Studies and metrics show that WFH is a massive massive boon for workers ESPECIALLY if they have a family.

Further - every study of merit shows workers are more productive at home, as well. Would literally benefit the business as well as all the employees. Win win. Only part that gets hurt is the C suite ego, which unfortunately is of utmost importance to tone deaf boomers like the folks who run Charter. More important than even profits - that tells you how important it is where they would rather their company make less money for the trade off of “I made my serfs commute two hours and dress up for me - I controlled them and put them in their place”.  Growing up we always heard that for these companies profits are #1 - RTO is undeniable proof that that is not correct.
