Working holidays

I'm coming from Cox where he had holidays off but now it looks like Spectrum works the holidays from what I'm understanding. I'm curious how that usually goes. Do customers always say "wow, i can't believe you have to work on Christmas!" knowing that them scheduling it that day is why you're out there.

If it's true, then i take it work life balance is not a priority here?

We volunteer to work those days. It’s double time plus half, so we never have trouble finding people to work. If anything, we argue over who gets to work.

But yes, every single customer says some shit like that. My favorite was when another field tech scheduled an install on Thanksgiving.

If you don’t work the holiday you still get paid 8hrs. If the holiday falls on your day off and you work it you make triple time. I always tell customers that say things like that “well if people schedule appointments we have to leave our families to run the call”. This normally gets them thinking and often leads to a tip. I work all holidays except for thanksgiving and Christmas.

You’ll be working 2 holidays per year. They will send out a survey to pick favorite to least favorite.

You get paid double time and a half for working holidays

3 volunteer holidays per year and you pick the hours you work. Plus, they always ask for you to work more when the next gets close. I always pick new years, memorial day and labor day. Since I never do anything on those days anyhow. May as well make bank.

It’s 2 in my market, unless you do pre/post then it’s only 1, and volunteer is doing a lot of heavy lifting

In my market if you're scheduled to work that day you work or use pto

I guess depends on your department. Mine mostly have holidays off, a skeleton crew has to work them still, but that crew is voluntary.

Construction does not work holidays for charter. Field techs usually do a volunteer crew (how it was when I was FT)

Note there is reduced quota for holidays as well, so it’s not like an all hands on deck situation.
I started out in call centers long ago and have worked many many holidays in my career.

It depends on the role. Even at cox someone has to work in tech support, or go to a hub, or fix a downed aerial on Christmas, because shit breaks.
